Woodturning The Valentines Day Special

- Todays project on the lathe we are turning a nice piece of ash wood and making a lovely valentines day gift. This bowl is a fun one to try and turn and is my first attempt at turning something like this. Turning the heart shape to a finished piece is much like turning a winged bowl. This project was inspired by The tiny Turner and a live video turning burl and resin heart platters. Please check out her channel and give the video link below a watch!
Side note: Anytime I have a cloth near the lathe and spinning objects especially those with wings on them you will never see me wrapping the cloth, towel, steel wool or even sandpaper around my fingers. This practice is not fool proof and can still lead to injury so please proceed with caution in your adventures if you choose to attempt anything like this.

Very nice
Thank you!
Leuk geworden !
Thank you!
Very Nice Just Subscribed looking forward to watching your video's
Thanks!
Very nice. I’ve done one of these myself (video to come). Think the next one I do will start as a proper sized round as you did. Well done.
Thanks Doug! It was fun starting out with the cut heart shape. Once i looked at it like a winged bowl the turning was fun!
Wah bagusnya ,karya seni yang luar biasa ,,, 👍❤️
Thank you!
super
Thank you
👌👌👌👍
Thank you!
👌💯
Thank you!
Nice project What were the dimensions of the ash when you started?
Nicely done Chase! Don't know why I hadn't subscribed before, I thought I had. Have done now though!
Thanks Gary! And thanks for subscribing also!
Beleza, bem bolado e novo na área, parabéns, gosto de algo qd agente cria.
Muchas Gracias!
What a clever idea! Nicely done here on Valentine's Day. I see all sorts of possibilities for this design. The only thing I would suggest for the recording is the I probably didn't need to see you sand through the various grades; I trust you to do that!
Thank you for taking the time to checkout my project!
Beyond the imagination!!!
Thanks for watching!
I tried doing something similar to this today. The wood I had was super soft and I made one too many mistakes and it shattered. I know what I’ll do different next. Glad I found this video today
Thanks for taking the time to watch! Keep trying and you'll get it! Fail= First Attempt In Learning 😉
Nicely done Chase! I was pondering making one too but gona try it next year, just not got the confidence yet for a winged piece 😃 Super well done! 😃
Thanks Val! Give it a try! Just remember speed is your friend with winged turnings 😉
@@WegeWoodWorks eek it giving me the fear! 🤣 You a brave chap! 😃
@@teckle.turnings turning faster gives a smoother result and is easier on you because it reduces the amount of time the cutting edge is in air
@@WegeWoodWorks ooooh brilliant!!!! That is super helpful!!! Thank you Buddy! 😃
@@teckle.turnings anytime 😉
How many RPMs are you running so that you don't hang up on the V in the middle of the heart. Going to give it a try. Really like your bowl. Here goes #1.
At what speed are you turning?
Thank you for watching! I'm turning these heart bowls a bit faster than you would a regular bowl as I'm treating them like a winged bowl and the increased speed helps reduce that airngap time when cutting around the wings of the bowl
VERY nice piece. Could you post the thickness and width. Thank you
Thanks Wayne! I started out with a 3inch thick and 8inch square piece and then cut the heart from that on the bandsaw
@@WegeWoodWorks great. Thanks so much
👍🇹🇷
Thank you!
Very nice bowl. What type of spur drive you use initially in chuck to hold in place?
Thank you! On this particular project the initial chucking was done using a worm screw.
@@WegeWoodWorks Thank you. May I ask what kind of wood? I used a 3/8 hole on cherry 1 1/4" thick and worm screw stripped threads very quick.
@waynenelson8907 this piece was made from ash. Fairly dry so the screw bit in well and stayed. I also make sure my pieces face is firmly against the closes jaw of the chuck for added support
:) Thank you. Happy Easter.
@waynenelson8907 Thank you, and a Happy Easter to you and yours as well
WOW, just um, again, WOW. imagine bar stool seats........
Thank you!
I like the heart shape, is it possible to use any other letters, have tried by any chance.
Thanks Chris! I think it'd feasible to use other shapes as a starting point as long as you treat them like a winged bowl.
@@WegeWoodWorks thank you, I will be trying it out. Cheers
मुझे लकड़ी के मुर्ति बनाने में उपयोग होने वाले बीट की आवश्यकता है
Thank you for taking the time to watch!
Сначала было хорошо, потом не очень.
Желаю успехов!
Heart or butts? ))
