To be honest I envy you...... listening to Masterpieces like "Revelations", "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" or "Painkiller" for the very first time......
Painkiller? That is very far from a masterpiece like Revelations or Rime of the Ancient Mariner, it was a commercial metal song. It wasn't even close to one of Priests best songs, all their best work was on Screaming for Vengeance and earlier, that's what defined the band.

Maiden is an all-time great metal band. I think Piece of mind is my favorite album.
More than 'an all-time great', Maiden (in conjunction with Metallica) is THE evolution of metal as begun by Black Sabbath and Judas Priest.
I have a soft spot for Killers, even though I prefer songs off other albums more, such as this song.

@@keefriff99 Yes. It is kinda off compared to the rest, but I was a sophomore in high school when Piece of Mind came out. I borrowed a buddy of mine's cassette tape (yes, cassette tape) and I have been listening to it ever since(not buddy's tape, but a form of the album). That was in '83. So I like them all.
@@keefriff99 I wouldn't say Quest For Fire is bad, it's just weak compared to the rest of the album. On the flipside I think To Tame a Land is underrated

"The Sign of the Cross" from "Rock in Rio" is the best version of the song, period. Blaze Bailey is a great singer, but nothing compares to Bruce. Would love to see that version on your channel.

i love that you are diving into all the classic metal stuff of the 80's. Revelations is one of my fav's off this album. This was my first time seeing Maiden that tour, havent missed a tour since.

This album was my game changer. I was 17 and knew nothing about Iron Maiden and metal in general but this album changed everything. I went out and bought a bass guitar and listened to this song over and over until I could play it perfectly. That was just the beginning of the journey...over 30 years later I’m still playing these songs. Timeless! Thank you Preston for playing one of the greatest metal songs of all time.

I keep this album near and dear to my heart! This is my 1st Maiden album. It was given to me on my birthday back in 1983. God that was a long time ago!! Love this album. Preston react to "Where Eagles Dare" off of the same album.
Iron Maiden are truly legends of metal/hard rock. They don’t get enough credit outside metal and rock circles for how truly great they were and still are. In my humble opinion Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, And Dio are the holy trinity of late 70s to mid 80s metal and hard rock.
Nobody comes close to Iron Maiden. They have the undisputed 1st place.
This right song right here performed live will literally bring a tear to your eye. Ive heard it performed live by maiden 4 times and its done that every time to me

Steve Harris frames this track with his bass beautifully. So effortless. He is truly a massively underrated musician.

If you are gonna do Sign of the Cross do the live version from Rock in Rio, Bruce Dickinson does not sing on the studio version on X Factor that was the 1st of two albums done without Bruce, I would also suggest you do the live version of The Clansman from Rock in Rio, another great song which Bruce does not sing on the studio album!

Wasted Years is a cool song you might like. Sign of the Cross is with a different singer (Blaze Bayley) who had an impossible task replacing Bruce but you seem to like the epic, moody songs and the Sign of the Cross is a pretty cool song. I always thought that was one of their darkest, moodiest albums.

I remember buying cassettes of most of the songs you review. I cant get the excitement that I got when I was young. But you do. And I live vicariously through you.
With tapes you couldnt even skip to the next song. You were in it for the long haul. I cant even imagine fast forwarding and rewinding. And they replaced records because of cars.
