Dear Minty, I'm going through one hell of a rough patch in my life, and can't seem to catch a break. I don't know how I'll be able to pick myself up, and everyday some new kind of bullshit happens that knocks me down a couple more pegs. I remember my co-workers and I took a long lunch to visit a Kwik-E-Mart which was located across the street from a theater playing the "The Simpson Movie". We were in Simpson heaven. We took a lot of photos of us next to the Springfield characters cardboard cut outs. Fun times. Why did they remove Apu out of the show. None of my Indian friends today were not offended by the character. Its a curiosity for sure for controversial topic at that time.
I was 11 in 1987 and enjoyed The Tracey Ulman show but my friends and I loved the animated sketches we called “the Bart part”. When The Simpsons debuted I taped every episode on the VCR and my friends and I would parrot jokes back and forth to each other in class. The Simpsons became a skeleton key for unlocking friendships. If I was meeting somebody for the first time I’d ask “do you like the Simpsons” and if they said “yes” we immediately became friends. I think it would have been more special if show ended when the movie came out. Coincidentally I fell out of love around the same time. To this day, I quote the show to friends as a joke and shorthand to comment on any situation in life.
I missed out on the Tracey Ullman Show. My introduction to the Simpsons was "Simpsons roasting on an open fire". I do remember Tracey's less talked about '90s HBO series, Tracey Takes on..., though.
M*A*S*H and the Simpsons were ran a lot here in Canada too, as well as All in the Family. Fun fact there’s actually lyrics to the M*A*S*H theme song, and when you find out what they are you’ll understand why they were dropped for the series

I'm sure you can do a "10 More Things, Another 10 Things, Here's 10 Additional Things" going over three decades discussing on specific episodes that may reference the moments in time. To add with your living the moments with the Simpson's, I recalled my school did not allow a Bart T-Shirt that says, "Bart Simpson - Under Achiever." I thought that was funny!
I was about 15 years old when the Simpsons came on to TV and loved them from the start. The first 13 or 14 seasons were the best and will always be my favorite shows. ( I hope I didn't brain my damage )😂
I used to read Vancouver's indie newspaper The Georgia Straight in the 80s because it ran the Life In Hell comic strip and thought "This should be a cartoon show like Bugs Bunny but for adults."
The original edgyness is what made the show, but it is the PC era. Being 57 I love that I grew up in an era where ultra edgyness was loved and no one got offended. The removal of the twin towers, pre 9-11, is ridiculous! I love watching older movies and seeing the towers. And as for HW Bush ... yeah the Waltons, Leave it to Beaver ... fiction... Thanks, Minty! Great episode 👏👏💗 Cheers from Kentucky, US! :)
Capcom announced in June 2024 that they will be removing the Twin Towers from the ending of a re-release of the Punisher arcade game. I can understand when The Simpsons didn't air the episode where it is said "all the jerks" are put into one of the towers for a while right after 9/11, but its insane to remove the towers in 2024.
I tried to show it to my kids, but they don't see the appeal. They think the comedy sucks, but it is all about getting all the references and jokes. What they consider fun and entertaining, it is not for us born in the 1900's like they say.
I'll never forget watching The Crepes of Wrath. It was in the employee cafeteria at SixFlags, all of the senior people arranged our breaks to coincide with the showing, the room was packed and when it ended the place emptied. The moment when Bart realizes he can speak French still brings a tear to my eye today.
Fantastic job! I will be looking forward to seeing when you do the follow up episode on the movie from 2007. I love Simpsons so much and this is a fantastic video about the early days of the series! You do indeed look sort of like Comic Book Guy, lol.
Great Video, as usual, Minty. I never watched routinely, but, I have seen them. I hope that you mention that they started as part of The Tracy Ullman Show (which I loved, even the fact it got cancelled).
That is so far from true... If you haven't watched in 20 years, how do you know it's no longer funny? Sure, they've had some stinkers... and currently, Julie Kavner can barely perform Marge's voice anymore... but the show is still funny. And I'm NOT a kid... I watched the earliest version on the Tracy Ullman show, and have watched EVERY Sunday ever since!
When the season ended maybe 15 years ago, I lost interest in catching up on new episodes. Maybe only saw a couple episodes since, such as a Christmas episode where the family is broke and turns their house into a bed and breakfast to strangers. I hoped it'd tap into that Hall of Fame Boy Meets World episode where they do the same to their neighbor's house. Nowhere near as good and convinced me too I wasn't missing anything. This video sums up how the show plays it way too safe this century versus it's first decade
I remember seeing a Simpson's short in the movie theater. It was one of the trailers before LETHAL WEAPON 2. The whole family was in a shrinks office and Bart was eating all of the mints in the Doctor's office. Homer yells at Bart to 'Put that back'! And Bart pukes up the Mints back in the bowl, thus getting to a fight with Home in the Doctor's office. That clip would have the whole family connected to electrode simulators. A brief shot of that clip is in this video at 8:07.
Great job, Minty! Thanks for the video. Can’t recall the episode name but I laughed the hardest when the Simpsons went to Australia. Think that might have been in the 5th season.
Minty, I saw in the episode you paging through a copy of Simpson's Illustrated. I subscribed to it that first year (not sure if it went longer than that), and I have the honor of having my letter published in one of the issues in the fan mail section! ✍

I used to read Vancouver's indie newspaper The Georgia Straight in the 80s because it ran the Life In Hell comic strip and thought "This should be a cartoon show like Bugs Bunny but for adults."
The Simpsons was great with a large emphasis on was.
Got burned out on the Simpsons years ago. Around the time of the movie.
I love that era
To me my favorite episodes is with Homer’s brother, voiced by Danny Devito. He nailed that role ‘😂
29:16 in the southern US I always heard the term "more than you can shake a stick at"
I live in Georgia and have never heard anyone say that.
I've lived in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and currently live in Virginia, there's more cows in that field than you can shake a stick at.
I heard it growing up in Canada too
@@GiosueManninoit’s an Albany expression.
I'm British and I've definitely heard it used here.
Mr Plow is a dope episode, so is Marge vs Monorail.
I tried to show it to my kids, but they don't see the appeal. They think the comedy sucks, but it is all about getting all the references and jokes. What they consider fun and entertaining, it is not for us born in the 1900's like they say.
Smart kids
No context for them with a lot of it, I had the same response with my smurfs.😊
My son loved The simpsons from he was 5 years old. Now he is 13. and still love The show
Pssff, kids these days 😒 Now if you'll excuse me, I gotta go yell at a cloud.
My kids like it.
The Simpsons was also on nightly in America in the 90's. The Simpsons and Seinfeld.
Many thanks Minty!✌️
I'll never forget watching The Crepes of Wrath. It was in the employee cafeteria at SixFlags, all of the senior people arranged our breaks to coincide with the showing, the room was packed and when it ended the place emptied. The moment when Bart realizes he can speak French still brings a tear to my eye today.
Sideshow Bob was always my favorite character.
Disco Stu mine.
Fantastic job! I will be looking forward to seeing when you do the follow up episode on the movie from 2007. I love Simpsons so much and this is a fantastic video about the early days of the series! You do indeed look sort of like Comic Book Guy, lol.
Great video
lol. it came out one minute ago
Videos are so good that he proves that even with ultra low audio quality, you can make bomb content
A good portion of the channels audience is probably comic store guy 😂
And proud of it. And alot of Bart, Mr. Burns, Moe, Willie, Otto, & Sideshow Bob. Insults only betray your low intellect. 😊
‘Worst-comment-EVER!’ 😉
I remember watching this on the Tracy Ullman Show and was so stoked when it got it's own show. It's my favorite show of all time. Awesome video man..
Great Video, as usual, Minty. I never watched routinely, but, I have seen them. I hope that you mention that they started as part of The Tracy Ullman Show (which I loved, even the fact it got cancelled).
No. 1 It's been going on too long. Ooooh!
Loved hearing the classic arcade music in the background!
11:31 "Hawk Tuah!"
Is that still a thing. You know that girl was really doing that all over town
No you're thinking of that rapper nikki
Hawk tuah
@tinocontreras5105
Appreciate your take on a topic so thoroughly covered elsewhere. You brought some good memories and thoughtful insight. Cowabunga dude
I've not watched in probably 20 years. It's not funny anymore.
Facts
When the season ended maybe 15 years ago, I lost interest in catching up on new episodes. Maybe only saw a couple episodes since, such as a Christmas episode where the family is broke and turns their house into a bed and breakfast to strangers. I hoped it'd tap into that Hall of Fame Boy Meets World episode where they do the same to their neighbor's house. Nowhere near as good and convinced me too I wasn't missing anything. This video sums up how the show plays it way too safe this century versus it's first decade
@@thisisnotachannelnothing about it is funny. It's all propaganda home oh garbage. Hasn't been funny since 1990.
@@GiosueManninoWhat a great sense of humor, you must have
A live action Simpsons movie ?? WOW ! I can't think of anything worse !
The Simpsons* there is no 's
That's from the episode, "There's No Disgrace Like Home". They used a clip of it in Lethal Weapon 2.
‘That’s the 1st time anything has gone wrong’
Great job, Minty! Thanks for the video. Can’t recall the episode name but I laughed the hardest when the Simpsons went to Australia. Think that might have been in the 5th season.
Minty, I saw in the episode you paging through a copy of Simpson's Illustrated. I subscribed to it that first year (not sure if it went longer than that), and I have the honor of having my letter published in one of the issues in the fan mail section! ✍
One of your best ones yet. Thank you as always and keep it up mate!
I’ve been a fan for years now & I like your toy wall background! Keep it up bud 👍
It's feels kind of weird to have watched the cartoon short on Tracy Ullman as a kid, having no idea what it would turn into.
