The fact that neither Patrick Stewart nor Ian McKellan knew how to play chess is probably the biggest trivia bomb I have heard in quite some time.

:-O I did NOT know that! (I'm sure they've *seen* people play chess even if they did not savvy the rules, so they acted like they knew what they were doing.) 9:22 Oh! I hadn't gotten this far when commenting. (I know: an internet sin.) I suppose I should've reckoned they'd have an expert laying out to do and NOT do, to avoid a faux pas!

I can't believe they bought in a chess expert for just a few moves and under a half minute of screen time. Surely someone on set could have told them what to move so as not embarrass both the actors or the film?
      AKA...save some money!

Another piece of trivia was that Brian Singer did not let the actors read any X-men comics before making the 1st movie, but after the success Hugh Jackmen went out and read the Wolvarine mini-series and learned alot about how Logan was which made his performance in X2 even better.

X2 was one of the best movies of it's kind during the 2000s back when I still cared about superhero movies.
I think part of the reason why it was called X2 - X-Men United in the US is because about a decade prior there was another movie released here called F/X2 along with later in the 90s a TV Series based on the 2 F/X movies just called F/X and they didn't want any confusion.

It's so funny how some people recall what and where they first heard something. Or what they know it as. I'm pretty sure X-Men 2 was the original title. It somehow got shortened to X2 over time more and more. And the (United) was actually a tagline to begin with. Then it proceeded to make all DVD's and whatnot lol most overseas know it as X-Men 2 to my knowledge. Here in the U.S, we know it as United. But honestly, I just prefer X-Men 2. It's simple enough. i first saw this in a movie theater, there was a couple moments when you see a bit of fire (literally) in Jean's eyes very much hinting at The Phoenix.
when the movie ended and we were walking out, i heard a couple guys next to me saying "i can't believe they killed off the hot red head" to which i said "she is definitely not dead, she is one of the most important characters in the xmen, and also known as the phoenix.. she will be back" to which they said "oh... cool"
granted i also certainly would not have predicted cyclops's death either. but then again, most deaths in Marvel (or DC) don't usually last long.

@2:14 Referring to "Empire Strikes Back" as "what could be the greatest sequel of all time". I'm glad you qualified by saying "could be", bc I'm sure there are plenty of us who would give that distinction "Godfather Pt II"!

The problem with Cyclops is that while Chris Claremont wrote the Scott/Jean/Logan love triangle as mainly being all Logan pining after Jean (and even had Logan fall in love with Mariko), a buncha Wolverine fanboys/girls wanted him with Jean. So, it keeps getting brought up over and over again. Jean and Scott were deeply in love, but many a fanboy writer and obviously some movie directors went with Wolverine getting the girl due to Logan's bigger popularity. So, James Marsden got screwed over.

    • @splawnrobert
      @splawnrobert 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Agreed. Marsden never got fair treatment from Bryan Singer .
Agreed! I'm so tired of seeing Cyclops used as a mutant punching bag !
Thankfully, CycIops was finally portrayed a more causative fighter in the movie , "'X MEN D∆RK PHOENIX"'. Not a great X-Men flick, but it was ok.
Cyclops has a stronger appearance in the "'CYCL0PS eXtended Cut"' of the 1st X-Men movie.

10:50 First, I thought Alan Cummings was great as Nightcrawler. The complaints you mention never came up until after the "MeToo" movement. Alan ALWAYS said he hated 'X2" because of the extensive makeup. He didn't seem to realize that Rebeca had to go through significantly more makeup then he would EVER have to. For the complaints about the set from Halie Berry, it would have come up long before MeToo was ever a thing. Especially if Alan had similar complaints. Gonna have to press "X" to doubt.

I took it as having a full title and then two variations on how to refer to it more quickly. 💙
Like saying "Six Degrees" instead of "Six Degrees of Separation" (1990).
or when people say "rizz" instead of "charisma" 💙

Great video! And yes to Van Helsing!!! I actually love that movie. I'd love to see a vid on that. While it's a bit over the top. To me it features a cool concept, effects and it still has my favorite portrayal of the character of Dracula. IT also has my favorite image of a werewolf.
X-Men 2 or X2 is good enough for me as a title. My copy on Prime is just called X2. For me this movie was my favorite X-Men film. I really feel that in this movie they truly unleashed The Wolverine! The Last Stand was definitely a disapointment but it has one of my favorite casting choices ever! Kelsey Grammer as Beast. Ah when I heard he was cast I was sooo excited! Course then the movie comes out and was a let down. but Kelsey was fantastic in that! I do wish we could have had more Beast. I also wish they could have done more and done better with Cyclops. James Marsden was a really great Cyclops and it is disapointing how they treated the character overall. That one scene when he took Xavier to visit Magneto in the prison was a quick but excellent fight. I needed more of him kicking butt! lol.
