Funny thing is, Ford made a stock Ranger, with a diesel, way back in 1983. The truck was a 4-speed stick shift, and had a 2.2L Perkins engine. I'm hoping that the newest Rangers come with both a 2.2L four-cylunder and 3.2L six-cylinder options, both turbo-charged as the 2.3 EcoBoost is.
The 2.3 is a potent little engine. The US has too many taxes on diesel to make the market attractive to the masses. I want a diesel for my 92 cherokee.
@@jk-76 : Honestly, I've thought about putting a diesel in a Subaru, and making my own diesel. The proliferation of grease and oil from cooking food means you get the materials for next to nothing, and you may be able to simply spend some time making the fuel that makes you go down the road. As for the taxes aspect, I completely agree. We now have carbon-capture tech, which means synthesizing diesel. Here in Michigan, Kalamazoo started using algae to break down trash to pure J10 diesel. The problem is, diesels last a long time, if taken care of -- and the American car companies don't want diesels to be used, except in very large and/or heavy applications, such as big-rigs or railroad locomotives. They don't want the family car to be diesel, because that cuts into the yearly new-model profit model they've been operating on for decades.
@@ruanbez9417 : While there are some inaccuracies, I looked at Wikipedia, and I do not believe that Ford has ever made a 2.5L _diesel_ engine for the Ranger. Ford made a 2.5L _gas_ or, as you would say, "petrol" engine, but not a 2.5L diesel. The only diesel offerings I'm aware of are the 2.2 Perkins in the 1980s (1983-1989), and the modern 3.2 (6-cylinder) and 2.2 (4-cylinder) diesel engines.
Such trucks in Europe usually come with 2-2.5 liter turbodiesel engines and haul ass, i can only see this as an improvement, let alone how much MPG it's gonna get with that.

Vp 110hp you can make like 250hp with the right tune, injectors pump and turbo, pd/cr tdis +400hp with the same "receipt" as vps tdi's. Magic keyword to tdis "Garrett 2265 vk "
when my wallet fills back up, one will be on order :)
Sharp looking truck too! Did anyone else notice the 'lift kit' on the hood to clear the engine?
Engine clearance is good without the "hood lift kit", but she gets a little hot in the summer and likes to puke coolant :D
In all my older vws i had 75’C thermostat in summer. Maybe u can put one in diesel too
People talk mad shit on vw and how complicated they are but then there are these guys that can see how simple they are
Nice unique build bro 😎 👍🏾 big fan of engine swap
Makes me think to keep my 2006 jetta tdi and 2005 beetle tdi wanted do ute pickup conversion ... But then remember everything brakes constantly. And want the p.o.s's gone
i mean ill take you pos VWs for free.99
Pull that freaking headliner down and either spray it with rubber sound dampener or recover it haha 😂
Sick truck tho!!!
When you got the Jetta motor, why didn't you bring over the complete harness and gauge cluster and just mount the stock Jetta gauge cluster in place of your Ford ranger cluster? Just use everything from the Jetta. Basically have a Ford ranger shell
i would have, but the cluster in the tdi was trashed (sticker bombs, fuel and tach didnt work, etc.)
I have a 3L 2014 A6 and 2012 Touareg TDI…..I divide 2k monthly commute miles between the two. Have owned several cars and the one that I want to modify/swap is a cheap high mileage gen 1 raptor (comparable torque) . My XJ and TJ come in a close second. Found a cheap motor and have the shop just need a cheap hooptie…..also open as a third option to gut a cheap Bentley continental GT to convert as a reliable commuter.
"It's a diesel, so its powerband is tops 3100"... reviewer proceeds to Rev the piss out of it 😂😂😂
Please show us more about that cruise control. I've been thinking how to make a cruise control for my ranger but nothing comes up
Suggestion eliminate the one vent get 2 gages that will fit in the hole then use a single din radio and put all your switches above or below the radio would be slick and simple
v2.0 of the truck will be rewired with everything on relays, will feel like a stock truck on the interior. As well as some head work and a bigger turbo!
They wont
In South Africa we got the 2.5 diesel rangers stock before the 2.2 and 3.2 and they are quite fun👌
Nice swap. Why would you want the exhaust below your ear?
because i like being a degenerate :)
love the air ride whats a cool truck if it cant pull anything
Thanks for sharing! Sounds great!
Such trucks in Europe usually come with 2-2.5 liter turbodiesel engines and haul ass, i can only see this as an improvement, let alone how much MPG it's gonna get with that.
Oh now you have got the best Ford in the world 😌😃
I like the tdi idea. I’m looking into and ford Endura DI refit with one of my sons.
That lil TDI would love a big turbo that stays lit till redline, would be a fun little drift truck with more fuel and a bigger turbo
im buying a ford ranger next week and man, a TDI sounds so good right about now
super cool.... my son has a Ranger SportTrak V6 that doesn't like to run or be fixed.... we've been wanting to TDI swap his for about a year
I have two mk4 TDI ALH cars one tuned one stock
both over 500k miles
What a wicked mini truck build
That's really cool. I never understood why Ford stuck all those under powered motors in the rangers.
I'm here because tdi motors are neat dude bad ass little truck
Someone should make a bad ass TDI swapped ranger crawler. I could imagine it
basically how the ranger was sold here (brazil), with a 2.5/2.8/3.0 turbo diesels
There actually was a Ford that came with VW engines from the factory. The Ford Galaxy van.
look at the lil turbo xD about the same size of my audi 1,8t k03 turbo
Man I Love the Ranger...I have two maybe I will try this thanks for posting
05 Jetta TDI sitting on deck for my Jeep transplant. great mod. if your passenger wants to drive a non-power steering truck come drive my 1977 Power Wagon/M880.
go to the junkyard pull off the electric power steering off of a toyota yaris and mount it on the ford steering shaft some welding required

What an awesome video guy! Beauty build
Awesome truck that sounds good! Great job on the build brother!
Really cool somewhat simple build. I’ve got several project cars that haven’t actually made it past the bought and sat aside stage haha. But one day.
Several?
@@scissrface2182 Yes several? Like multiple
Dude was prob cringing inside when he was wringing it out 😂
Idk why but I have always loved the Ranger pickups. I especially liked the new ones. Like them so much I bought a 2022 4 door xlt w/302a equipment package in oxford white with the black package. (Black grille, paint matched white bumpers, black wheels etc) it's a great truck so far.
keep fresh oil in them and theyre great trucks
@@jakobanderson6213 I keep the oil changed in everything I own. It's cheap insurance imho.
Nice job. I got a 1994 mazda b2300 "ranger" that's basically dead at 332,000 miles and a vw diesel swap would be cool
I have a 05 b2300. Looking for a tdi now
got my inspiration from Dirt Lifestyle and Gingium here on youtube, taking the drift truck idea from gingium, and the tdi stuff from Nate. so far its been great!
@@walkerchild7414 Any reason you didn't bring in a WL-T turbo diesel engine? Was the standard TDI engine in these things in overseas markets like Australia, would have been easier to fit I reckon
Super cool project though!
@@francocozzo7235 Honestly, if i knew it existed maybe i would have looked into it! VW TDIs are super well supported for aftermarket over here in the US at least, so it was pretty easy to do anyways. Would like to have done an inline six, and maybe thats down the road!
@@walkerchild7414I love the build. What kind of fuel mileage are you getting?
Buddy of mine has an ALH with compound turbos in a 4wd Masda B2000. Thing rocks.
believe ive seen a few videos of that truck, if its the one im thinking of............... would love me a compound ranger
Did I miss it or did he say how he adapted the trans to the engine? Good job on the build !
id assume someone sells adapter plates
He didn’t really go into detail. I’m trying to figure it out too! Can’t find anything of the sort online right off the bat🤔
Man, what a cool, clean build. Good work
Definitely inspires me to follow through with my K24 swapped Ranger dream. 👌
Is there a step by step on this process? I'd like to attempt this
Austin Niemela here on youtube has some really good videos on the whole process, hes done 2 tacomas now and everything applies, just have to alter things for the ranger side.
As a current vw owner and previous ranger owner that's been missing having one, this is absolutely amazing and now I need another ranger to go bastardize lol
Im actually selling my 94 Ranger 2.3l 5spd 2wd in case your in the market. And i just so happen to have TDI motors aswell since i build them. Truck has a ton of new parts and is rust free and would be a perfect TDI swap candidate. Located in east Ohio about 15 min south of 70, PM me if you have any questions on it.
You can also PM this account as im on this one more lol I just posted on my other account as thats where my mechanic content is lol
@@EhBrokenToaster I'd love to learn more, but I can't figure out how to pm you on YT lol you on any other socials?
@@EBT_Garage @Kyle Wise get this man a ranger
Need to put a 12v in a ranger. Me, my buddy, and his dad did that with his dad’s old farm ranger and it’s a beast.
I got a 1993 ranger with the 2.3l 5sp 2wd and just over 500,000 miles! It's my daily to and from work. Doesn't have a tic tap or rap, nor does it use or leak oil. But I know I'm on borrowed time. Another thing, it runs good for what it is but pretty much gutless, I couldn't imagine it being an automatic! Lol. This TDI swap would be the shit especially since the body n frame is in real good shape except for a dinger her n there. I undercoat it with the used oil at least once a year.
I want to do this in the worst way 😭😭 I love that tdi motor
Awesome video, awesome truck
Got a old 1980s ford ranger 4x4 perfect body motor bad want to do this swap. I have a Volkswagen diesel jetta just need a guide. Once it's bolted in I want to do a mechanical vp44 from a 4bt cummings making it direct mechanical injection to rid the electronic want mechanical.
great job.. i wish i had the ability and money to have one of my tdi engines in a small truck or suv.. better then factory .. wish they had come with the tdi options
