It is essential that cells are healthy and have the capabilities to grow hence the log phase of growth is taken

2:38. If the cryo-protectant would increase the extracellular concentration, that would worsen the osmotic effect... the cell would lose even more water
Right, great movie, but missed the point of how the cryoprotectant works. These cryoprotectants actually penetrate the cells, thus relieving the osmotic effect.
