You really did a good job, personally I would go this route since I recently replaced valve cover gasket, not worth it removing vavlve cover again. Perfect fix and don't see anything wrong if done correct and clean. Good job.
Nice video! What were the exact symptoms of the problem before you decided to replace the CCV valve? Did it definitely get better after replaced it? I want to pinpoint the problem. have same engine
Thanks for your video it really helps…my n51 of 2013 is burning oil and all forums tell that this is faulty…anyway i just ordered the part but i wanted to ask you because im confused is that hose of the pcv connected to a tube or it stays like that open?
Hey may have to do this soon on my car. Have to test the valve with a vacuum bleeder. How did you know this was an issue on the car? Did you happen to get any codes like p0171 and p0174? Thanks!
@@HeroRepairs thanks for the quick reply. Did a smoke test and I really didn’t see anything come out from anywhere. I hear some whistling from the general area near the valve. I also just took the oil cap off at idle. It did change a bit but then it normalized. Also there was a decent amount of vacuum on my hand. Sorry for the ramble. Thanks again!
I read that the spring does close it when it’s resting (the vehicle is off I’m guessing) And it opens when the car is running so would it make a difference ? I’m asking bc I already installed it and saw the spring was on my work bench
@@theoaguilar1941 In many cases that repair method would be costing close to 1/3rd the value of the car. It's obviously the preferable long term method, but as cars age you need to start getting pragmatic with your approach to repairs. This is a low cost and low risk method to try first. You can always replace the valve cover later on if you choose.
Ive replaced the valve cover twice ... both lasted about 2 years... this last time I only replaced the $12 dollar pcv valve like this video and it lasted about 2 1/2 years. So I wish I would've just done this each time as the valve covers have not had any other issues, only this stupid pcv valve!!! 2011 bmw x3 28i 205 k miles still running strong!

another reason to change the entire rocker cover at 100k right?

@@Kico57 Normally there is a little cap on it, but the N51 could be different due to the emissions focus.
@@HeroRepairs ok bro thank you very much! I will follow your guide 🙏🏼
Link to the parts you used?
Does the cap screw on the valve cover or does it just need to be pushed all the way down?
@@aliciawilliams7619 It just needs to be pushed down
Was this causing a whistling sound? And what kind of sealent u used?
Yes it was. I believe it was Gorilla FixAll high tack
ihad lots of oil on the cap. does that mean it is failed?@@HeroRepairs

Symptoms were a loud whistle, rough idle, and engine codes although I can't remember which ones.

@@jibranyar5977and misfire codes ?
Engine codes come up as timing retarted on exaust camshaft reference I did this procedure code disappeared instantly
@@sipmeister3611 so you completely replaced your pcv valve, and it disappeared?
What if I don’t add the spring lol ….
It won't work properly as it will always be open

Replace valve cover.
This was cringe!!!
Indeed, but it works
This would be how "not" to work on a BMW. If you resort to these methods then perhaps its time to buy a honda or toyota.
@@theoaguilar1941 what would you suggest without resorting to replacing the valve cover?
@@HeroRepairs Replace the valve cover. I just replaced mine this last saturday and it took me about 2.5 hours.
