My favorite bass drum I've ever played was a 26 x 14 Ludwig, set up as part of a Bonham kit at Guitar Center. It might be because I'm 6 and a half feet tall, and even 22 inch bass drums feel too small for me, but that 26 inch Ludwig blew me away. Definitely getting a 26 for my next kit, whenever that may be.
@@davidmiller2050 Nice! I've got the 12x22 Ludwig and a 14x22 Ludwig (both 3ply 60's shells). I have an 18x22 dw Collector's, but I prefer the 12x22 the most. I barely ever use the 18x22.
GOOD GOD DAMN HE IS A BEAST!... and OMFG>... does that 26"er sound like DOOOM pounding its way like a fucking titan to crush your guts out! killer video!
I am really amazed at this shallow 26 inch bass drum. Is there any chance you could make another video with the 26 x 12 bass drum, but this time highlighting the bass drum. Play something where the sound on this bass drum comes through nice and clearly. Thanks!
Couple of notes: 1) I love the punch of the 18"! Imagine the amount of punch added if he went without the ported front head on the other two!! 2) A coated PS3 on the snare used with the silver sparkle kit?! That's just plain filthy, man! Now I want to hear it with a Big Fat Snare Drum pad on it!
Thanks for watching, yes not sure how a non-ported head would sound, but would love to find out. Yes, I prefer coated P3 heads on metal snares, usually with no extra dampening
@@davidmiller2050 I'm just thinking of Bonham with the closed head on his signature 26x14s. Granted he tuned them high with the felt strips to provide dampening, as well.
I used to a 24x14, Vistalite in black ,so punchy...I used a Emad 2 batter and a Aquarian reso skin with damper on reso hole( stock skin) ....feel kick drum 30ft away . Great Video 👍thanks
I am big fan of 26"bass drum also the key is 12"depth, it was more punchy than 14" depth. At the same time I surprised about 18" bass drum nobody play hard with 18" however i feel that 18" bass drum has punchy enough, it just a compare issue but..this case I felt 22x14 was boomy and lazy ,I will choice 18" bass drum than 22x14. Also about dynamics , I thought there was no big difference. These may just be issues of pitch or sound quality. Dynamics is depens drummer’s kick power and technic on the each song. I like this video also thank you compare them.
Dave, which to you had more punch and boom? the 14 x 22 or the 16 x 22? I’m thinking about getting my first Ludwig kit and I’m still torn between the classic maple and the oak but the bass drum is usually what sells me on the kit.
It's actually Sam's kit, but, the 22x14 is probably the punchier of the two. I have a DW 22x16 and that's not too bad (it's in my other videos). The oak kit will be louder, I've heard one or two in person
I wonder how a 26 x 12 compares to a 26 x 14? Does the sound of a 12 inch deep bass drum cut off more quickly like a 14 inch snare compared to a 14 inch floor tom? If there's no difference in sound between the 14 and 12 inch deep bass drum I would be convinced to go out and buy a 26 inch bass drum. I have been wondering the same thing about shallow rack toms too. Will a 14 x 8 tom sound as good as a 14 x 10? There's a cool set up for you, a 26 x 12 bass drum, 14 x 8 rack tom, 16 x 16 floor tom, and 14 x 6.5 snare.

Hi, Sam had Coated Powerstroke 4 batter heads on the toms, and I think Evans Emads on the bass drums with nothing inside. The 18" was a Coated Powerstroke 3

To me, The 26" bass kicks ass! Deep, low, and make the kit sound excellent!
Came here to hear the kicks, stayed for the playing!! Killin it dude!
Sam's a beast for sure, thanks for watching!
I LOVE that 26 by 12!!!!

I've got a '63 22x12 that sounds amazing. Nothing wrong with a shallow depth bass drum.
I have two 22x14's and a 22x18, I prefer the 22x14's

@@PatrickWitherow nice, funnily enough, my 22x18 is a Collectors, which was great 7/8 years ago when first got it.
Tbh, I prefer it over a 14
Shallow bass drums are killer man. Not super shallow but Im a die hard proponent of the 20x14 shells. Love the small diameters a lot too.

Sounds like a full drum line Great drumming… thanks
26" all day.
Great playing, a pleasure to listen too.
This dude’s playing is about to sell a shit ton of 26 inch bass drums!
Real nice playing man!
Thanks, I'll pass that on to Sam!

Hi, thanks for watching. I will speak to Sam, see if I can get something sorted. I have mics now too, which may help
Beautiful kit 😍😍😍
Most bass drums that are 10 or 12 inchs deep was originally marching drums. They sound good fit into a set
Great playing!
Used to have a 26" Stainless Steel Ludwig. Miss it.
Shallow kicks are the best

EXCELLENT BEAUTIFUL AMAZING SUBLIME INMORTAL, LUDWIG RULES... GOOD JOB BRO 🎼🥁💫🙏💫🎶🎵

Yes, they can be loud drums too! Thanks for watching
these kits and the playing deserve much better audio recording.... :p
Yes, absolutely, it was just a little drumming get together and we didn't plan to record anything. Thanks for watching
Bigger kicks don’t seem to get enough love these days. I like the boom of bigger kick drums.
Really unique drum kit. Very nice.
Thanks for listening

Tosses in a Jojo Mayer Groove. Sounds great.
And that lil 18"er is badass to... But i have to sAY.... 26" and then the 18"er as a little side kick...that would be awesome..
24 × 14. Done!
Great playing kid
Thanks, Sam is a beast behind the kit!
Great drums, awesome grooves
Thanks for watching!
If you ever decide to get rid of the 26, 22, 13, 16, please let me know!!!!
Thanks for watching, but it's not my kit. It's my friends! I think he's keeping it for now
Martin Moore, were you still interested in the drums you mentioned?

were the 18" and 26" marching drums?
Hi, no they were proper add on bass drums. The 18" is currently being sold at Graham Russell drums with a couple of the toms
That groove at 0:40 is fucking killing dude!
WOW... Is that a PS3 Coated on the batter of the 26" ?

Ah, the year they had Copper Rose Mist....
I feel this video was all about the cymbals and busyness. Disappointed thinking I’d hear more of the drums, space, tone. They are beautiful though.
It was a Spur of the moment thing really, all I had was my mobile. Thanks for watching!
What kind of heads? They all sound great!
