I’m a female drummer from the 70s, and my favorites, that was the Ludwig Quadra plus. I owned it in jet black gloss. Hard to keep the fingerprints off but beautiful one very clean. They sounded amazing. They had four concert Tom Tom with no heads on the bottom. I used a Rogers Dynasonic chrome snare. A beautiful sounding set! I recorded with it, and the sound was pure heaven!
Great styx Carter. It's nice to hear some jazz for a change. I'm usually so bored with drum solos that sound like extended rudiment exercises. But that was really musical.
Glad you apologized there at the beginning. You're playing was just terrible.... :) Sounds amazing. Great sounding kit and amazing playing. How did you mic? Sort of a Glyn Johns set up? Tnx for all the videos!
Possibly the best sounding Ludwig Drums that I've ever heard, and they are gorgeous. Is it just my imagination Carter, or do you go into a whole new level of playing that you seem to enjoy more whenever you de-tune your snare drum?
Lmao, you mean lower the pitch by detune, or actually detune(by proper use of term)on purpose so there's uneven tension across the lugs? I can't imagine any drummer who'd intentionally detune their snare drum or any drum, because most snare drums will detune themselves in short time. Which is the biggest pia about them. Not to mention any detuned drum means uneven tension across the drum which leads to warped drum rims and eventually warped shells....if that's what you're implying by detune, then hopefully nobody ends up buying anything you've once owned, ha. That's not a percussionist equipment, that's trash.
What great sounding drums. As much as I like the toms and kicks, the snare just knocks me out. Ludwig has always made some of the finest snare drums around. Your playing is stellar and the demonstration was wonderful. Thanks.
These drums sound incredible, and I love your playing. I love that you mention heads and tuning. Last week I happened across a large drum shop's video which featured a very similar Classic Maple kit. In all honesty, the drums sounded lousy. No depth or character and the attack itself lacked focus. I just knew there had to be more to the story, and now thanks to you and youtube, I can say I've heard it. That 18" kick drum makes the world a better place.
Man… oh man. I’m gonna need a pair of those fire grains. Totally tried the whole Evans thing and still have lots of their heads… but man.. maybe I give it another go and really sit with them. Congratulations on the gorgeous kit
With a kit that looks and sounds like this and a down to earth guy behind them, you’re sure to steal a great deal of gigs from others in line. Lol. You sound greatly inspired playing this kit in this tuning range. Awesome video, my dude! I’m a new subscriber. I look forward to the next release. Cheers, Carter. 🥁🎶
Man, Carter. That is a gorgeous kit. Edit: Holy crap, they sound so good! When you brought out the 18” bass, that had to be some of my favorite work from you.
I feel like that's the kick drum you'd want if you were trying to recreate that Honky Tonk Women sound. Which in my opinion, though I'm not a huge fan of the song, is the best sounding recorded kick drum in rock music.
Nice cans! I think I like round overs on the bass drum too! You said 45,s. Either or! Sitting behind the drums 45s sound kind of overtony but out in front full and clear!
dude thats the best sounding ludwig I have ever heard holy shit, and your dynamics really just , it does it for me wow....great playing......I got alot of work to do lol......new fan for sure
Buttery, dynamic, tasteful, musical, tribal, relaxed, effortless and never overpowering @13:45 just blows my musical mind. … oh and the kit is just gorgeous
Beautiful drums…and inspiring playing. I’ve played and followed Ludwig drums for over 45 years, and that may be the most gorgeous kit they’ve ever produced…
I love Ludwig! As a kid in the 70's I learned about the brand and to this day still have them in the house. My Grandparents bought me a chrome Superphonic snare around 1974 for $75.00 Even when I am not playing them it is like art to me I like to have them displayed look at them.
The 32nd notes while randomly swapping up between doubles and singles is such an insane flex. Like it's hard to even see what's going on with your hands there and it just kinda sounds like a fast snare fill but it's actually wildly technical and difficult.
That kit sounds incredible! Those floor toms are well balanced, they have the right amount of everything, realy nice...whole kit is amazing. Carter did you order the classic maple kit through Ludwig themselves? As in do thet take orders directly?
I’m a PDP guy myself but nowadays all the companies are making great kits. And Ludwig is definitely a heavy hitter. The drums sound amazing and are absolutely beautiful to boot.
Very stupidly on my side, I waited till 11:something to add my thumb up. As a big fan myself of the THUD 3ply with re-rings and rounded bearing edges shells deliver, I find the Ludwig CM 45° bearing edges shells still great-sounding (unlike other sharp bearing edges shells, which sound to my ears kinda boxy), call it "family feeling"...
Only Carter...can make a kit sound THAT good with just a room mic. Anyone else would be processing the hell out of it. Carter just picks the right drums, picks the right heads, and tunes it just right. If I ever become a king-shit famous drummer...I'm gonna hire Carter to be my drum tech. Nobody tunes drums better.
Carter - can you list the mics you used here on the big kit? I’ve recently gotten my own take on the Glyn Johns setup going and realized I don’t really need my close tom mics like I thought I did for a ton of stuff. I’m guessing i’m hearing the corner omnis for stereo rooms and I see the AKG over the shoulder, sm57 (?) snare top? What else :) Thanks for inspiring, man!
I don’t think it’s possible to sound any better than these. Though I would love to hear some coated heads just for comparison. Beautiful! Great skills and tastefully executed. Question, Do you prefer the batter tighter than the resonant?
Not really an Evans guy here. My new Tama came outfitted with them and I’m not crazy about them…but my goodness….WOW!!! Those toms sound amazing. Nice amount of punch and attack. That is a beautiful sounding kit!!!
I am in awe of your talent. Every time I watch one of your videos. I’ve been drumming for 40 years and I don’t have 1/1000th of your talent. I’m embarrassed to even claim to be a drummer.
Wow sounds amazing! How to you tune your reso head vs. Batter? Is a minor third high? Very interesting projection, like the dark-warthm with bright attack tone, amzing kit here and your hands is just magic thing haha!!
Gorgeous tubs!!........I gotta say, the floor toms are the stars for me 😏👍. The choice of round edges was a winner!!. They've got that thick throaty THONK!. Perfect for the studio. Really cool to hear how they achieved that finish. Never heard of fuming?
Those floor toms are highly illegal in most of the world.

Man, it’s funny that Jesus worked on that kit, because it sure sounds like he did 😂
Those drums sound beautiful! So deep and throaty.
Looks and sounds beautiful! 😊
Beautiful. And the playing is even better.
Yeah,....jeeez,,.....really sloppy playing man. Clean that shit up ;-) -- Kit sounds fantastic and is gorgeous. Congrats.
Absolutely incredible!
Amazing sound..nice drumming
Sounds incredible. And not entirely close mic'd either.
Wonderful set all the best.I had the same sizes in black galaxy sparkle from 2012.
Great sounding drums and very tasteful playing 👍😎
Great styx Carter. It's nice to hear some jazz for a change.
I'm usually so bored with drum solos that sound like extended rudiment exercises. But that was really musical.
Sounded great as the bebop jazz kit as well! Incredibly tasteful playing as usual.. the snare on/off alternations was a cool new touch.
True story... yes I like it low ha
I'll have what he's having

@@DG-sf9ei I started to comment and then I stopped…. Not worth it.
god watching this video on a wednesday night is like therapy. wishing you all love and nice sounding kits in your life
Cheers! 😁
That sound😍 beautiful drums😍
Love playing big kits, so many color on the palette 🎨
What great sounding drums. As much as I like the toms and kicks, the snare just knocks me out. Ludwig has always made some of the finest snare drums around. Your playing is stellar and the demonstration was wonderful. Thanks.
WOW these are seriously impressive.
One Flight Up! ;)
Man, you've really got those dialed in. I've never heard a better sounding kit. And not only do they sound great, they look as good as they sound.
One of the drummers that I like the most...what versatility...it's very complete...and with a very personal groove and dynamics...
Beautiful sound, the jazz kit sounds amazing! Congratulations and enjooooy!
When you listen to the toms keep in mind that there is no close mics.
But they sound like if there were close mics!
9:30 good to see that not even you can resist the urge when playing on a big kit
Magnificent sound!! As to be expected!!
Beautiful drumming and fantastic sound!

Looking and sounding great my friend... sexy ass kit in da house!
You gotta quit lying to us, man. There was nothing sloppy about any of that playing.
The Soundtrack in the beginning is also very cool. Is it yours?
Yes . Off my album Travelers 👍🏻
Sounds great. ii HAVE THE ALL CLEAR 70'S KIT.13,14,15, IN TOMS AND 18X20 FLOOR AND 24 IN BASS.
Love your playing. So smooth.
Man, Carter. That is a gorgeous kit.
Edit: Holy crap, they sound so good! When you brought out the 18” bass, that had to be some of my favorite work from you.

wow, so musical, I love drummers who pull out the sound instead of hitting - beautiful, beautiful hands!
I think this may be the best sounding Ludwig kit I've ever heard with one of my favorite drummers making them sing!
Absolutely glorious
dude thats the best sounding ludwig I have ever heard holy shit, and your dynamics really just , it does it for me wow....great playing......I got alot of work to do lol......new fan for sure
Buttery, dynamic, tasteful, musical, tribal, relaxed, effortless and never overpowering @13:45 just blows my musical mind. … oh and the kit is just gorgeous
Worlds best sounding drums…period 🥁💥 awesome playing as always Carter! 🤘🏻
That’s the nicest sounding 13” tom I’ve ever heard. The kit is incredible.
That size usually doesn’t treat me well 😜
@@tdrum21 I was gonna say that too. I don’t know what it is about 13” toms. It’s really hard to make them sound good.
Those floor toms! They almost click but without sounding dull and choked. Wow.
Beautiful drums…and inspiring playing. I’ve played and followed Ludwig drums for over 45 years, and that may be the most gorgeous kit they’ve ever produced…

Carter should be deemed the "tuning god".
Hearing those perfectly tuned toms is soooooo satisfying 😌
That kit sounds incredible! Those floor toms are well balanced, they have the right amount of everything, realy nice...whole kit is amazing. Carter did you order the classic maple kit through Ludwig themselves? As in do thet take orders directly?
I got cold chills when you first started playing it. Amazing mix/engineering but ontop of that, this kit sounds killer. My GAWSH.
I’m a PDP guy myself but nowadays all the companies are making great kits. And Ludwig is definitely a heavy hitter. The drums sound amazing and are absolutely beautiful to boot.
Those first two kick drum hits just hit ya right in the chest! Killer playing Carter, and phenomenal kit Ludwig!
Very stupidly on my side, I waited till 11:something to add my thumb up.

“Please excuse the sloppy playing.”
Me sitting here knowing Carter’s sloppy is M-cLean-er than me on my best day. lol
Tuned perfectly! They sound amazing and so do you, my friend! Nice dynamic playing.
Only Carter...can make a kit sound THAT good with just a room mic. Anyone else would be processing the hell out of it. Absolutely beautiful kit and awesome punchy throaty sound! Couldn’t go to a more deserving drummer!
Carter, I admit blatant jealousy.
Enjoy!

Earthworks sr25 stereo wide. 414 over shoulder. Unidyne on snare. D12E kick
3:58 Jesus himself worked on this kit
It's comforting to know our Lord and Savior had a hand in making this incredible kit! Those floor toms are thunderous!
carter, my favorite thing about your videos is that they make me want to practice. great playing as always, floors pack a serious punch.
The snare sounds to me like a black beauty but distinctively wooden too, very interesting
Once you switched to 18" bass drum we could really see that beautiful finish. Damn !!! 👍👍👍
Everything everyone says here but also: wishing you a Happy 25th anniversary Lion King show!
Beautiful sounding kit (and cymbals of course!!), those 14" and 16" floor toms sounds absolutely amazing! Have fun!
When Jesus works on your kit, then you know it'll sound good!
Incredible kit, incredible fills, incredible taste in the playing. The kick sounds like Bonham!
Yeah, and it's a 22x14 !!
Just got mine a few months ago! One more 8” Tom is all
I don’t think it’s possible to sound any better than these. Though I would love to hear some coated heads just for comparison. Beautiful!
Great skills and tastefully executed.

Amazing playing . Love your dynamics and groove , most uplifting & inspiring.
I mean... Jesus helped make this kit... need I say more?
What's the mic setup? I see no close mics on the toms and they sound better than most records
Sounds great! What's the batter head on the bass drum?
Evan’s eq3
"Sloppy playing..."
Dude, no. Beautiful feel. The kit sounds unreal 🤤
Wow sounds amazing! How to you tune your reso head vs. Batter? Is a minor third high? Very interesting projection, like the dark-warthm with bright attack tone, amzing kit here and your hands is just magic thing haha!!
LOL I stopped paying attention to the kit because the drumming so damned good!
It’s unfair the tom sounds you always get with just an overhead
Reminds me of zeppelin’s sound
There really is something about Ludwig drums. They sound stunning.
SLOPPY PLAYING 😳?
I don’t think so!!!
✌️😁🥁👍
They do sound awesome, but the recording is at the same level of quality as the sound of the drums. And your playing is very good.Good job.Well done.
13:49 HOLY SHIT! That flow is on a Weckl level. Absolutely amazing.
Just beautiful. I cranked this up in my car and nearly blew the windows out with that bass drum. Your playing makes me want to be better.
Awesome sounding drum kit, played by a master ! It's been a tough week after my Cowboys choked vs Packers. This helps. Thanks man. :-D
I'm not a Ludwig person by any means. But maybe now
Ludwig does it again, phenomenal sound and stunning finish, gotta get one.
I think I’ve legitimately discovered what it means to be left feeling speechless.
Forgive me, but I didn't hear if that's a classic maple or legacy? Thanks and I'm shopping for a new set of Ludwig too.
Classic maple 🍁
Golly. I think you've sold me on some Ludwigs! They've always had the sweetest snare drums. This kit matches up.
Gorgeous tubs!!........I gotta say, the floor toms are the stars for me 😏👍. The choice of round edges was a winner!!. They've got that thick throaty THONK!. Perfect for the studio. Really cool to hear how they achieved that finish. Never heard of fuming?
Perfect, wooow!!! Thanks 👍 for video
Didn't expected you behind a 3 rack toms kit throwing some gospel chops!!! Incredible kit and playing.
Hey Carter thx again for another great vid.
When u ask for a roundover edge is it done top and bottom or just to the batter?
Both sides
@@cartermclean Thanks!
There are not better sounding drums than Ludwig Classics, period. Cheers.
