The song came out in 1998 and was a chart topper. The song sounds better in this raining, live performance than the recorded version IMO. I was at this concert July 4th,2004. With the GOO GOO DOLLS being from the Buffalo NY area made it that much more special. This concert was at the Buffalo waterfront park. They have a concert series during the summer every year with bands from various genres. This song found its fame when it was made the theme song in the movie CITY OF ANGELS starring Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan.
Yes, it was created for the movie "City of Angels" (Nicholas Cage and Meg Ryan).... in a nuthshell, an Angel here on Earth falls in love with a human and wants to be "seen" so bad, but doesn't think she'd "get" him. (keep in mind, I am SERIOUSLY nu-tshelling that! lol!!🤣😅) Anywhoo, lead singer Johnny Resnik was asked to write a song (or a few!) for the soundtrack. After watching the movie, he felt so connected with the plight of Nicholas Cages character (the Angel😉) that these lyrics are what came out. The label loved the song and when they asked him what the title was (they needed it for credits) Johnny went blank..... he hadn't thought of a title.🤷♀ Long story short.... he happened to be thumbing through a Rolling Stone magazine during his conversation with the label execs, and the page he was on was an article about American Folk/Country/Gospel and occasional Folk-Rock singer Iris DeMent. Her first name "Iris" struck him as the perfect title for the song seeing as it's about worrying about how you will be "seen"! Anyway, I've been subbed to you for QUITE a long time and I don't usually comment but..... THIS song is special to me!! Also, wanna add..... The band is from Buffalo I live in Buffalo I worked in the airport at the gift shop they always stoped in to get something on there away out. So plying in Buffalo is a big deal. I have seen them live great show.

Her name was Francis, 2009, she was dying of cancer and it was a Sunday evening 23.00hours when she called, hi Chris are you awake, I wanna come over and let you hear a song I want to be played on my funeral... Yes honey come over and play it for me.... She died a few months later, and because of respect for her father she didn't let this play that day.... Forever this her song and she spoke at her owwn memorial, when she was alive she wanted a party to celebrate for the last time... We all had a white balloon in our hands and she stoot a few hundred meters away from me... We made eye contact and although I haven't had any conversation that night with her,, she was able to tell me everything I needed to hear.... her lips moved ' i love you'....
