I was at this concert it was on the fourth of july and it was here in their hometown!!!! Thats why they played in the rain, Buffalo New York!!!!!! It was very emotional!!!!!
IMO, one of the most beautiful songs ever. As part of the soundtrack to City of Angels, it's absolutely heartwrenching. Haunting, melodic and melancholy.
That was downtown Buffalo,NY for a July 4th concert. Their name was originally The Sex Maggots and played The Continental, a punk and new wave bar, the equivalent of CBGB in NYC.
Everything about this is just so Buffalo. We are this dedicated and tough all the time. This band speaks our lives, at least for all of us from the 716.
The Goo Goo Dolls are from the Buffalo NY area where this video was shot. This song is the song that made them famous with its debut in the movie City of Angels.
Johnny Reznik wrote this for the movie "City of Angels" with Meg Ryan and Nicholas Cage. The original vid has clips from that movie..it is about a girl! SO many good songs from them!😇
This song used to play on the radio every hour when it was at its peak, lol. Was suuuuper popular, but beyond popularity, it is a great song. One of the best songs ever made.
As someone who lives with autism spectrum disorder this is how I feel daily. I want you to know who I am. But at the same time I feel like the world doesn't understand me.
Wow - I can't believe there is a person in the world who hasn't heard this song 😁 But I've never heard the live-version, so thank you, Joe Occhipinti! Great voice. The movie is... eh. Not the worst, but it's the Americanized version of the movie "Himmel über Berlin" (heaven above Berlin), so maybe watch that one? One of the most-known songs by the Goo Goo Dolls is "Slide", but one of my favorites is "Notbroken". (But Slide is good, too!)
Yw. Nice. I haven’t watched either of those movies before. Yeah, I thought Lee would have known the song but not seen this performance before lol. Glad he enjoyed it enough to put it on his playlist :)
Buffalo NY in the rain on the 4th of July. So maybe not cold but still not a Kentucky rain. The mood is just unbelievable. Buffalo is known for cold and snow.
Something that could put that "you bleed just to know you're alive" lyric into some context: To me, the lyrics "when sooner or later, it's over" and "when everything's made to be broken" tell me that he knows that the relationship won't last or that the relationship is already coming to an end. But even knowing it's going to cause so much pain in the future or is even right now, just being able to be with that person in that moment makes it worth the pain he'll eventually have to go through. But the fact that it's worth the pain doesn't mean the pain isn't there.
Love the Goo Goo Dolls so many great songs, Here is Gone, Slide, Black Balloon, Long Way Down, Disconnect, Stop The World, We Are the Normal, Cuz You're gone, Big Machine the list goes on and on.
Were you talking about Christopher Walken in Annie Hall? "Can I confess something? I tell you this as an artist, I think you’ll understand. Sometimes when I’m driving. . .on the road at night. . .I see two headlights coming toward me. Fast. I have this sudden impulse to turn the wheel quickly, head-on into the oncoming car. I can anticipate the explosion. The sound of shattering glass. The. . .flames rising out of the flowing gasoline." Jawbreaker used that clip in one of their songs as well!
Love this song and this live version. The mandolin adds a great layer to the music at the beginning of the song. Shout out to the fans and the band for sticking it out in that horrible rain. Great song and reaction! Thanks Joe👏🏻👏🏻
Regarding the line about "bleeding to know you're a live" in reference to self-harm, I can speak from my personal experience with it back in the 90s as a teenager. I can't speak for why anyone else does it, and I didn't do it for very long, but for me, I was dealing with a ton of emotional and psychological pain due to family issues, and various other factors, and it was just overwhelming. It was a feeling of just an omnipresent, and all-encompassing pressure, of nebulous pain. None of it was focused anywhere that I could address, like being in the woods at night, and hearing tiny sounds all around that keep you on edge, but never clarify into a defined threat. So, when I self-harmed, it was a way of actually having a pain that I could focus on. Something concrete, tangible. This injury on the back of my arm, is a pain I can identify. I can see it, feel it, know WHY it's there, and it kind of became the focal point for the other pain to be disregarded, or at least ignored temporarily.
I remember when this song dropped in 1998, it was a total game-changer for me. I'd never heard such a melancholy love song on the radio before. The movie also became my favorite at the time. Mind you, I was only 12. I believe this track was also somewhat of a departure for the Goo Goo Dolls, who were previously more known for hard rocking songs. Their earlier stuff is really great, such as Long Way Down and Name, which were two of their biggest hits.
Soundtrack to city of Angel's film from 1998. About a angel who fell in love with a human. I feel the lyrics to this song tells you the story of the film. The film is one to watch
This song is awesome! I've seen them live, opening for Bon Jovi in São Paulo, and the whole stadium was singing along as loud to this as they were to Bon Jovi
It’s a song from “City of Angels”.. it’s about an Angel who falls in love with a human & gives up his immortality to be able to love her in human form. Then she dies shortly afterwards and he has to live with the loss of everything
This album is a banger, every song is great! Songs that you can relate and feel the emotion! Slide is one you should do next. City of Angel is a great movie. I think you need more Judas Priest too!
This song is in the movie "City Of Angels" with Meg Ryan & Nicholas Cage!! Outstanding movie....watch it with a box of Kleenex!!! One of the most emotional movies I've ever seen!!! (Total movie junkie!! 📽📽📽)🎵🎼🎶🎸🎸🎸🤘🤘🤘💜💜💜
This song would make more sense to folks if they'd watch the movie "City of Angels" with Nicholas Cage and Meg Ryan. It's actually a fantastic movie!! I don't want to explain it too much and to ruin the movie. Goo Goo Dolls are Awesome and I Love Johnny's voice!! Check out their songs Slide, Name, Broadway, Here is Gone, and Black Balloon.
Not a big fan of this band, but the song is pretty cool👍👍 A few suggestions for ya, check out silverchair, more soundgarden (pretty noose, spoonman, rusty cage, burden in my hand) smashing pumpkins, alice in chains, foo fighters etc I can't think of any more at the mo,lotsa 💖💖 from 🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿

Goo Goo Dolls have put out hits consistently for years. Great version of this song😁
IMO, one of the most beautiful songs ever.

Haunting, melodic and melancholy.
They were big in the late 90s early 00s. I remember this song came out when I was in High School. Brings back the memories.
I've never heard of them lol

"Don't beat my ass with a baseball bat."
The most incredible performance of this song! Thank you for reacting to this!

Will be going to my first Goo Goo Dolls concert in 2022....getting ready...amazing song. Thanks
This video was shot in the guy singing and the bass players home city on the steps of city hall.
Interesting!! Thanks John 😁👌

I burst out laughing in the middle of this beautiful song upon seeing the "mic shinoda" label on the microphone. 10/10 reaction lol
Hahah nice one Justin, yeah Harry Mack is a legend on the channel now, it started off as a joke and now it's long standing 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Tired of these fake "first time listening". Anyone your age would have heard this song. It was everywhere.
