- 100 Miles off the coast of California... Some of the best big wave surfers in the World take on XXL Cortes Bank in pristine glass conditions.
As a commercial fisherman I have spent a lot of time out on the Ocean in good and bad weather. But I don't think I've ever seen as good as conditions that we got on this Day ( January 13th, 2023 )
Perfect big waves coming in all day, and not a land mass in sight. It was a pretty surreal experience. A great white shark, 50 seals, and a bunch of surfers and water rescue shared the lineup that day. With a big film crew and a few boats watching from the channel documenting this rare in special day off the coast in the middle of no where. Bill Sharp was the mastermind of this trip. After the session he claimed it to be "The Greatest Surf Trip of All Time". Which we all agreed. This was being filmed for an upcoming season of HBO's 100 foot wave. Out of all the surfers that day, the only one that had ever surfed out there was Garrett McNamara. Lucas Chianca, Justine Dupont, Andrew Cotton, Nic Von Rupp, and Will Skudin had their first experience out there. And as you can see they all took advantage.
I Actually filmed a couple days before at Jaws, then went off the chase the same swell! took the red eye after to make it on the trip to cortes. We left San Diego Thursday Night and got to Cortes early Friday morning. Surfed from morning to about 3:00 PM and then headed back to San Diego and got back early Saturday morning. It was a quick and precise trip. One that I will always remember! - กีฬา

to think of this beast rising up in storms we could never imagine, in the darkness, alone, throughout the millennia, is perhaps the most unsettling vision I can conjure
Whoever edited this: Congratulations ! I enjoyed every second of it ! Even in times where there is so much spectacular meterial on the internet, this is truly amazing. And i have never even surfed. Thank you.
I remember paddling out thier in the 70s from Los Angeles, 130 feet on a board I made from sea horse shells and under table bubble gum, just by myself, waves were the best in the 70s I was born in 77 I would of been 2 years old
What kind of gum? Did it still have any flavor? We need to know!
Love the view at @2:50 when the jet ski is riding just behind the crest of the wave. Never seen that before, so beautiful!
Have to agree, that moment is so sick
And he was like right at the top of that thing too. I commented to myself how amazing it was.
This is simply outstanding work, filming, editing, pace, music. I don't think you can find such quality on any other TH-cam channel
Not to detract from this excellent quality and your comment, but Tim Bonython makes great vids that you may enjoy...his YT channel is SURFING VISIONS. He just dropped one called A Day at the Stern...Shipstern's Bluff in Tassie. Youngsters charging hell stepped monsters. Always does excellent soundtracks...
@@omniversling Tim Bonython is a good friend and mentor of mine! His videos are always high quality.
We’re so lucky to be living in Lucas Chumbo’s world.
Photographer to videographer - incredible work tucker. The colors and shots that you have in this clip are incredible :)
Hi-res drone cameras have taken surf videography to new heights. Viewing an athlete from above and behind as in the scene at 4:12 is something no one has seen until recent history. The feeling one gets from virtually hovering over the crest of these waves and seeing for the first time what these brave athletes see is exhilarating. As they begin their wicked acceleration down these fast-moving slopes, looking way down at the wave base, many meters below, this feeling must be like no other.
Beautifully crafted work like this video can only boost support for the sport of big-wave surfing.
Mesmerising in every way. Great music as well. A small masterpiece.
Goosebumps. Nice work 🏄♂️
This wave seems to be moving very fast, what a surfing speed
Thanks for your great shots as always
THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL VIDEOS I HAVE EVER SEEN.
Digital Artist meets Mother Nature, great work Tucker 🫡❤️⚡️
You’re the man! Thanks!
I enjoy watching all of your videos Tucker including this one, nice work as always 👏🏾
Beautiful use of one the greatest songs ever written (Cortez), great vid!
Congratulations for getting such unique angles! So bored with the usual front on aspect, and showing Cortes from the back of the waves makes you realise how freaking alone you are out there and how far land is away! Sheesh!
Epic conditions too🤙
Thank you..
That's my favorite fishing spot!!!
Incredible!
To think this place exists and its constantly doing this. Even right now as we are watching, cold, remote and powerful. Very cool.
Dude. As they mentioned - it's the first they've ever had it this glassy. Maybe decades until it's like this again. Normally very rugged, messy and inhospitable. Natural washing machine with BLOW cycle.
😳 Never seen that place so glassy....Glad Will and Cotty got to go!
Bruh, this shit is crazy. More people should see this. Doing my part for the algorithm: liked, commented, and subscribed.
Truly amazing
Beautiful piece man!
Incredible videography! And awesome surfing, as well awesome riding on the PWc.
Outstanding surfing video!!!!
I'd love to see the Pacific Ocean one day.
One day, you may.
this is magical
The music is picture perfect.
Man what a trip. Ive been waiting for more footage for what seems like months now ❤
I got delayed making the edit from all the swells in Hawaii that followed that Cortes mission! Amazing trip.
@@Tuckerwooding this winter has been as active as I can remember since the late 90s el Nino ❤️
wow
awesome
cool !
Superb vid...new sub!
3:00 = OMG
Best big wave conditions I've ever seen. Sheet glass.
Stoke level cannot be measured by a number 😮
water so deep there so when you wipe out got to be crazy
I was 33 years old when I found out about the Cortes Bank.
Veautyful veautyful
Very narly only for the brave good for your soul
Outfuckingstanding
So fucking sick holy shit
Just, throwing..
When do we get to control them with remotes?
It's so glassy
Wonder what the speed of those boards reach on those big waves. Anyone ever clock them?
That is.. [gulp]..
The diference between from Chianca and those seals ? He is on WCT. 🤓
Wheres bohdi and Jonny Utah
This is like going to Mars! Who thinks of doing this sh#t?
"They're not mountains"
There must be a chapel next door and when the choir got tired they were replaced by an ordinary rock band that knows exactly three cords! I d rather listen to the music of the waves.
The song is cortez the killer by neil young, not a random rock band....
Jesus Christ Is Lord Amen
red sky in morning shepherds warning not sailors lol good try though
Great work on images but
Let's restate the title for what it actually is
Big wave waterskiing strike mission or
Big wave wakeboarding
It's not surfing. My grandmother could be towed in.
Your grandma must rip!

surfers speak out of the left side of their mouths saying they care about the planet?
How could you care if you consider 10 jetskis, huge boat all plying the waters to catch a few waves in the middle of the ocean. Reality is all you care about is your ego shots, sponsor $, otherwise if you cared you'd live at the beach, not drive & just take whatever surf was walkable. But good news is with all the Carbon you burn you'll help create bigger storms to surf.
I'd be interested to hear about your carbon footprint. Or is the "reality" that you just troll online to make yourself feel better? Which orgs to you "donate" your time to to save the planet? How many kids do you have? Cars? What company do you work for? What is their carbon profile? Are you a vegetarian? Are you a surfer? I've been a dedicated surfer for over 50 years and to be honest- you don't really hear that many surfers talking out of the sides of their mouths about saving the planet. Mostly they just want to end the work week with a few waves.
How the fuck you get there? swimming? Is the most unique surfing spot on the planet, is not like they go there ebery few months. Jesus what a painful sequence of horseshit

Sound track almost ruined the visuals, just an awful choice to accompany waves of this magnitude. Terrible music
unreal
