Thank you very much!!!! New to Audi and I was chasing a misfire and your video pointed out the cam lobes need to be aligned and mine were off, got a new cam and the new lobes are aligned.
I commented this with as much info as possible on your ‘how it should sound’ short. Looking forward to your reply. So I had the cylinder head and a bunch of other parts replaced, but I didn’t get the intake cam and exhaust cam cause that would’ve added almost an extra $2,000 for the genuine ones. I’m not with the car right now so I cannot recall whether it sounds like the before or after of this video after the cylinder head job, but from watching old videos before the cylinder head overhaul (recorded right above the engine like in this short but with the engine cover on) it kind of sounds like the before. The mechanics inspected the cams before installing them in the new head but did say they may cause some minor misfires, and they did but the misfires are very subtle hiccups that happen every now and then, not too often, I’m not even sure if that’s actually caused but the old cams. I did have an option to ship the cams to NC to have them profiled and whatever in order to have them smooth and even from the minor scoring they had cause I couldn’t find a shop that did that in GA. My question is, I since have put on a couple thousand miles with the new head; would the old cams have scored the new head in a way that if I eventually get new cams, the scoring on the head would make the new cams adapt to its scores? Or is the only part prone to major scoring the camshafts?
If not mistaken, if the phase is filled with oil it will have little play, but if it is opened up, let all the oil drain out, then the phaser will move from stop to stop. At least that is what happens to the phaser I am experimenting with.
Iv seen an fsi camshaft that had been completely twisted after a bent valve affair. It was very difficult to tell because only the timing gear end was twisted almost 90 degrees. All the lobes were fine. Had me confused for a while

Hi, i have 2015 mk7 golf, car started to miss cylinder 4 changed plugs and coils still missing i took it to a couple of shops no luck,i took it to another shop he removed the rocker cove and sen me a message that 5 rocker arms had come off the intake side. so my quwstion is if that was the case wouldent the car misfire on all cylinders and probly not run at all ,can a piston run on 1 inlet valve working? thanks in advance
Have any idea why i would be getting a p2293 and p12a4? Timing chains new. New guides and tensioners. Ive swapped the fuel pump, hpfp, fuel rail pressure sensor, the guide that sits on cam for hpfp, the fuel pump module thats next to the fuel pump. Nothing seems to fix the issue.
Cam lobes all line up. No major scoring. There is scoring on the journal area of the exhaust side. Far back one. Would that be possible issue ? Ive changed almost everything fuel related
How would you prepare a good one for the machine shop? I bent my valves and I am going to replace the belt or chain and a head from a junkyard. Anything else I need to know about?
@@tstricklin4808 I remember one time when I was having problems getting the car to move and the tec told me to check the tranny. I called my brother over and told him to take off his dress and help me out. He wasn't much help either.
The lobes only possibility move when the engine bends valves, (most of the time they dont). But it’s something to look at because I’ve missed it before and had to dig back in and figure it out. no other time are the lobes under enough stress to rotate out of the pressed on position
@@NaptownTuner That is impressive detective work finding them moved after reassembly. Did you use a scope to look at in cylinder pressures or suspect and then inspect the cams? Anyway great content, thanks for sharing.
I’m looking for a rebuild 2.0 engine for my Audi. My engine has only 62000 miles and have lost compression in one of the cylinders. Any suggestions? Thank you
Heed this man warning, I didn't and am now dealing with a cam gear that is spinning like a helicopter while the base is being held in my hand. Buy oem or a rebuild head that has the cam included.

I had this experience with a 2014 VW Passat 2.0 diesel engine, cam lobs went off original position. Bad design for VW group. Nice work 👏

Another problem is the front of the camshaft where that oil manifold/bracket slides over wear out causing oil pressure to bleed off.

Hello. I bought a vaico camshaft and is round behind the gear. I cant hold it to tight the adjuster valve. Any sugestions ?

How many teeth jumped? Mine jumped 3 teeth and thank god valves were not bend

If the lobes moved and did not bend valves it might not be so bad. It seem most modern cars are built to keep you coming back to the parts counter.

You could use a straight edge across the lobes to see more clearly that they are misaligned 🤔

Needs at least cylinder head / timing kit or you could do pistons and more at the same time

They make the lifters and rockers, belt tensioner and pulleys so that would make sense I’ve never seen one for sale under that name yet
