The polishers on the back are amazing, definitely makes a bigger difference. I have a 100 and 400. Love them. Tons of already packaged add in bioballs, media and sponges etc. It’s great, priming can be annoying if you don’t know how to do it. Great all around filters
I've been running it for over 2 years. It's a good filter. I didn't use the polish filter, I may use it for something else or add it back into the system. I put ceramic media mixed into the plastic balls and in the 2nd tray and polyfil in the top. You are correct, there is no quick disconnect. Did an unboxing and review on this, been running great with no issues. Only pain I find is priming. It's quiet as well. Great review and thanks for sharing.
For me these videos are a learning experience .I have 3 fish tanks all with hang on the back filters . But I have friends who canister filters when they went on the hose sprang a leak and what a mess water all over the carpet in the living room ,So what did I do I shut off the filter called my friends they told me Menards and and pick some plastic hose.Went back to their place cut to proper lengths and installed it problem😎😎😎🐢🐢
I actually had this canister filter on a 40 gallon reef tank and I loved it! The price wasn't bad either. Its a canister and hang on the back all in one.
I would recommend doing the order of the baskets as such -sponge(bottom, working as mechanical) then biological media(middle position) and then more bio media for the top position
This is a very nice filter and I have one running my tank. But I wouldn't buy it again in the future and it's not the performance issue, but replacement parts aren't just available online and also it's a mess when you disconnect the hoses. Even though you turn the shutoff valve from both hoses, you still have residual water leaks when you pull out the hoses. In the future I'll just get the fluval . I have one for my turtle tank and priming is so easy.
Poor man's Oase Bio Master.. and with that said the most important point (unless I missed it) wasn't made, the noise levels! These canister filters are not silent despite a lot of them claiming to be, in the case of this filter it's even in its name, which is why I clicked on this video in the first place. I used to own the Oase Bio Master Thermal 350 canister filter and loved it, for the first 3 months but then I had my ears professionally cleaned and discovered that I couldn't sleep with the filter running in my room anymore, especially after I'd done a water change and cleaned the Pre-filter that comes built in all the Oase Bio Masters. So sadly I don't have that filter anymore instead I started using my back up filter and heater which are both internal, the Fluval U3 filter and the Fluval E series heater. Both are great products, in particular the E series new generation micro processor controlled heater with colour code digital temperature display. The Fluval U3 filter however despite doing a good job at producing great flow, keeping the water clean, it's worth mentioning I have a heavily planted aquarium, and being extremely quiet it takes up a lot of room even in a 90/40/45 cm tank. To date I'm still hoping to find that true silent canister filter.
I got this as a secondary canister filter on my 125 gallon alongside my FX6. I bought it on sale for 109.99, for the sole purpose of running an in-line diffuser for my CO2 tank. Priming is a chore- I turned the top button (my mistake) with the canister full which resulted in an explosion of water everywhere. If you’ve already invested a lot in your tank and need a secondary canister filter, stick with a Fluval. Otherwise, for this price point, not a bad deal at all, has three baskets (I use Seachem matrix and Purigen in place of the bio balls and charcoal) and works as advertised.
OK, lemme just say, good job as always. The priming issue aside, I feel like they could use your video, as a tutorial for setup (Which in my opinion, is the best compliment I could give, for an "unboxing"!)... BUT MAINLY, I love that the canister filter, is a "she"... John makes me giggle... hehehe... "boys"... ☺️😉 and Hello Reno!! 🐈🐾
I know that there are many and they cost you a lot... but Eheim is a major canister brand and their Eheim 4+ Pro 240 fits nicely in your study range... Would be nice to see that one too. (PS Thanks for all these reviews and excellent programs you make).
Can I make a recommendation for the reviews, actually working out the minimum and maximum real world flow rates would be suuuuuuuuper handy. I've been desperately trying to figure this out for prospective canister filters for my tanks and most manufacturers a) over inflate the real world turn over and b) don't give the lowest flow rates where it's adjustable. That information, especially if you're looking to get the largest filter without turning your tank into a teacup tornado would be amazing.
I have this filter and agree with someone else that this is a 400 not a 300 and is rated for up to a 150 gallon tank. Mine came with 2 polishing units which was actually why I purchased the 400. I’m using it on a 60 gallon and it doesn’t a great job.
I had one, did not liked it. the mechanism to remove the hoses when cleaning is really fragile and easy to break if you don't put it back exactly right, replacement parts were expensive too, had to replace that one, the impeller and a gasket. Changed it for the bigger brother of the one in this video
Help! I need to learn how to clean my aqueon canister filter. I have put this off for far too long because for some reason I'm scared I'm going to flood everything or do something wrong. If you already have a video out about this how can I find it in your play list? I've been looking for this particular canister filter and nothing is coming up in my youtube searches.
I'm still using the API NEXXUS series canisters. They aren't the best but work pretty good. Just tend to leak a little after servicing so I put them in 20 longs. My biggest gripe, they didn't catch on so API stopped making replacement media, which really isn't that big a deal. I like them because thre pump motor goes directly into the tank, so I can get them deeper into the tank for better performance. Top fin also makes a canister. Seen them at petsmart. Love Reno🐈😍
looking into getting this filter for my 75 gal tank. i won’t have the entire 75 full though so just to make sure this would function just the same if i only filled half the tank right? i don’t want to purchase it and realize it doesn’t reach far enough down to the water inside the tank. thanks for this video will def be re watching if i purchase it
You should check out the eheim classic canister filters. It’s one of the cost effective high volume canisters that has been used in the hobby for a long time. I have 2 myself and one has been running for 3 years. I have the 600/2217
I have the 2213 and it has been treating me well for over a decade with the occasional replacement part. Because my cat chews on things, so I need a new O-ring. *sigh*
Jon this isn't a criticism but you should have reviewed this with the polishing attachment hang on back. That is the best part of this filter. that it comes with that accessory and how it does a complete filtering job with the polishing filter attachment is a large selling point. Maybe try to get it and it might change your opinion for the better or maybe for the worse
OK so I did a aquarium dividing wall where the front, back & 1 side is exposed & 1 side is against the wall. It's a 6 foot 150 gollan tank. My question is because i want to hide wire & tubs & run everything from 1 end. what would you suggest as a filter? Im thinking about running 1 or 2 MarineLand Magnum Polishing Internal Canister Filters to put on the side wall. ( the goal is to have discus & my gourami in the tank) sorry for the long question lol
the star nuts on the assembly is the quick disconnect for both the in and out lines. just turn the water flow off first. Also this filter is only rated for 75gallon tanks.
I just got one of these used from someone on Facebook but I only have 2 trays? Doesn't seem like there's room for a 3rd and the orange tag on the power cable says it's the 300 series. Help
I have an Aqua Clear 110 that is rated for 110 gallons. It is smaller than this canister filter. I just don't see the appeal when I can have a hang on back that works great and is easier to clean and manage.
Hello this is Jasmine Lynn Seegert i ordered a Aqueon canister filter kit i was wondering do put water in the canister i have three map turtles and I just ended up ordering a Aqueon canister kit
I have a love hate relationship with cats. They remind me of myself and I can't have anybody living in my house that I PROVIDE FOR, that acts like me 😂
As long time canister filter user of many kinds, I noticed some oddities in your video and checked Aqueon instructions online, likely the same you accessed. First, you likely have Aqueon Quietflow 200 or 400. 300 is "squat" in height with just 2 trays. Now, I noticed from experience that their TEXT instructs wrongly as to what media goes where. PICTURE (on the top of the page) is however in sync with typical arrangement over models and brands: bottom tray is mechanical, small cylinders; second tray up is biological, spheres in this case; top one is final section for foam, floss,... and carbon. Hope this helps...
dusanmal small correction. Floss is a mechanical filtration and should go in bottom tray above the coarse or coarse/medium/fine or floss for maximum efficiency and life of media. Made that mistake for years. If your floss/polishing pad is after the flow through media will cause detritus to collect on the media. Trap at all at the bottom and media rarely if ever needs cleaned

I bought fluval 207 after set up and trouble shooting could never get water to flow through input and output frustrating as he'll so returned after half a day trying to get it to work.
I am looking to get a 40 long gallon aquarium and I was wondering if a Tidal 75 and large sponge filter from Aquarium Co-op enough filtration for it. Housing would be tetras, barbs, corys (about 20 fish).
Hi! I just bought the same exactly canister. I hook up the same way as you. But my canister not starting. (Like no power) i also filled up the water plug it in still nothing. Any idea why? Anybody?
Thanks John....actually planning on getting my next tank, 65g, so looking into canisters now. Timing couldn't be more perfect. One question. How do canisters in general handle power outages. Will they fire up on their own if they loose power?
I was curious on this filter how it runs. One filter you should try is the new top fin filter. So many talk about top fin is the worst filters in the world. I got the first model of top fin canister filter and I love it. It's been on my 36 gallon tank over 3 year now. I have more problems with flaval products than top fin or marineland.

I've never tried a canister filter before.... I'm not going to miss one of these comparison videos ....thanks fir doing a the leg work for us
I just set up my first canister filter, a fluvial 407, its amazing and maintenance is a little more for cleaning, but its almost therapeutic

I just started looking for these. Looking forward to the rest of your series!
I would recommend doing the order of the baskets as such -sponge(bottom, working as mechanical) then biological media(middle position) and then more bio media for the top position
I love the fluval fx series because they self prime and maintains itself, flow wise of course.
how does it maintain itsellf flow wise?
@@malachimh170 there is a CPU in it that purges any air in it every 12 hours
Enjoyed the other filter series looking forward to this one now

I'm excited to see the canister filter reviews!!
Enjoyed the video, thanks for the insight

What perfect timing. I'm going to be setting up a 75 and will soon be in the market for a new canister filter.

The 300 is a two tray. Since this once has 3 trays its either the 200 or 400. good review either way.
So, with the aqueon, the water goes thru the carbon/bio balls/sponge? (In that order)?

Thanks John....actually planning on getting my next tank, 65g, so looking into canisters now. Timing couldn't be more perfect. One question. How do canisters in general handle power outages. Will they fire up on their own if they loose power?
Turn the breaker switch for that filter off. Wait a few minutes and turn it back on. That will answer your question.
Hi John
Do you have a video on a eheim filter
Are you going to finish the reviews of the filters other than the Aqueon and Marineland?
HOB for the win.
Hey John, I apologize if you covered this already but, before this video, did you have any experience with this filter? 🤣
I wonder if that Aqueon is made by Penn. Many of the parts are identical.
I live in Reno!!
Will you use this on a 75 instead of 2 emperor 400 HOB?
Don't use a canister filter..my tanks are small...but interesting to know about canisters for the future. Reno wants his own channel...just love him.
Where is the review on the sun sun filters? You was talking about it 2 years ago?
The arowana's in the long tank look sexy.
U said 6 but only video in playlist?. Also do review a sunsun filter :)
Canister filters seem to make much more sense then the HOB
Very interesting, I am a little intimidated with the canister filters
I've been sitting here for hours doing exactly what you did and nothing happened
Can you please do a video on your cat that would be cool.
Morning John
