  • Matt's review of his Alfa Romeo 145 on the furiousdriving TH-cam channel: • Alfa Romeo 145 Cloverl...
    In this review, we go for a suitably attired day out in Kent in a wonderful 2000 Alfa Romeo 145 2.0 Twin Spark Cloverleaf to see how practical it is, what it is like to drive and what it is like to own. Be prepared for in-jokes for fans of a certain long-running spy film franchise, references to Peter Serafinowicz's seminal spoof science series Look Around You, a random shot of a Toyota Aygo, discussions on safety of 1990s cars, a very floppy parcel shelf, a rather nice leather interior, some unexpectedly fast acceleration, lovely engine block covers, a rather haphazardly placed boot release switch, actual comments on styling, slightly fuzzy audio and generally little of any consequence at all... Nothing untoward, then!
    As an independent vehicle consultant, I take potential buyers through the whole car buying process from choosing a make and model to a vehicle handover and road tax. In addition to information on this service, I also have a selection of written and video reviews of cars that I have owned, hired, borrowed or have somehow come into my possession. Please use the Contact Me page on my website to get in touch, visit my Facebook page for latest updates and share this video if you like it! Thank you for watching.

    Matt's Beautiful Alfa Romeo 145 Cloverleaf.
    This car is so rare and has had so much love poured into it that I could never find it in my heart to say anything negative about it. It was fabulous in 2000 and remains fabulous in 2023. Sounds fabulous too.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, absolutely, a very rare car, which had to have some repairs after I drove it, sadly. Very much still on the fleet, however, and a pleasure to drive!

    Oh I love this car. The original was really unique in its class but the facelift with smoother nose is gorgeous as are the GTV, Spyder and the GT (now there is a rare car). The drop in the front doors and the tailgate cut into the roof are very practical and thoughtful features. No matter what exterior features attract us to an Alfa Romeo, the interior will always feel special, it's just something that they are good at. To crown it all Cloverleaf 🍀. Nobody does it better Mr Bond.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the 147 Cloverleafs are the most common type now, funnily enough. The facelifted ones like this are quite rare as they were only made for a year (1999-2000). The Brera and GT are both very rare. The styling was controversial at the time, but I think that it has aged really well. The interior is also very special, especially the optional Momo one in this car.

    Joseph I’m so sorry. Been so busy I’m only just catching up with your videos. I can imagine the key issue. My uncle had a Fiat brava (I can remember you gasping when I was originally going to buy one) he had to wait for ages for Fiat to get hold of one from Italy

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, Fiat Bravas! Not recommended as far as I am concerned, but there we are. Yes, if you lost the red and/or brown keys on an Alfa Romeo or Fiat in the 1990s, you were pretty much up the creek without a paddle! No problem at all, Mr Manning, plenty of nice stuff for you to watch when you have a chance, and even more to come next week...

    Great piece. I had the same car back in the day which was a joy until the camshaft decided to disintegrate and exit the engine block on the M1...Current Alfa is a 156 2.5 V6 SW and in the market for a GTV twinspark project...Really enjoy your attention to detail...Fantastic stuff!

      Thanks ever so much indeed, Jon, and thank you for subscribing to the channel. I did intend to review six Alfas in six months (I had been offered enough of them to do that), but then the lockdown started and my plan was foiled... I did manage a lovely 166 with the 3.0 Busso engine in February, though. I absolutely love the 156, particularly the SW, absolutely beautiful car! I have been offered a GTV as well, so hopefully that can still happen soon. There are lots and lots of Tweed Jacket Reviews and No Budget Reviews episodes on the playlists to keep you entertained if you wish!

    I have owned two of these. My first was a 97 R reg, which was a 1.8 T Spark, with the cast alloy engine cover. And my second was a 2000 W reg, 1.6 with the plastic engine cover, in the same metallic blue as this one, with Momo black interior. I part exchanged that car against a Saab 9-3 in 2014. Curiously, the W reg one can no longer be traced on the DVLA website, however, the earlier one can still be found, although MOT expired shortly after I sold it, and hasn't been renewed since. Nor has it been taxed since then either. Maybe it was broken for parts.
    But I haven't a clue why my W reg car is no longer registered with the DVLA. Maybe it was exported 🤔
    The later 1.6 was more fun, and nippier than the earlier 1.8 imo.

      Thank you ever so much indeed for watching! Yes, this car has recently been put back on the road, from what I understand, and Mr Richardson absolutely loves it. They are pretty unique cars these days, and unfortunately there are very few left.
      Funny how the later car is no longer on the database, but the earlier one still is. I have since driven two 166s, a very rare Alfa Romeo 90, a 916 Spider with the 2.0 JTS engine on the channel and hope to drive more Alfas soon.

    Another great review! One of the things I agree with Jeremy Clarkson on is the special place Alfa Romeo holds for car enthusiasts. I can't imagine VW making a car like this, Alfa's are often flawed but there is also something hugely likeable and desirable about them. I remember listing after these in the 90's. This was as stylish as the related Tipo was dull and forgettable. I must admit I did prefer the 33, and think Alfa lost something when they dropped the boxer engines.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it is a very special company and has been for ever such a long time. Volkswagen would never have made it, that is absolutely right. This car has many flaws, but it was an absolute blast to drive, despite the horrific turning circle. If you liked the 33 due to the Boxer engine, you could just buy an early one of these!

  •  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi ! This is a great review and I enjoyed it. I have an Alfa Romeo 145 clover from 1998, bought in Italy for me. I am the first and only owner and a big fan of AR, but my life has changed and I don’t drive it anymore. What price do you think I can achieve (I only covered 150,000 km)?

      Thank you ever so much indeed for watching! I also have a review of an Alfa 166 on Tweed Jacket Reviews if you would be interested in that. I don't really know about prices, it will depend on where you are and what the market is like, I can only speak for the UK market, where these are very rare cars indeed. Glad you enjoyed the video!

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lloydvehicleconsulting Thank you very much for your reply. I wonder how much my car would be worth in the UK. I know the prices here in Croatia and are embarrassingly low. The sale is absolutely not worth it.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ , it depends, really. 145s are so rare over here that some people will pay good money for very good condition, rust-free left hand drive examples.
