Its definitely a new challenge, but being able to use Defender makes for a much more consistent run since you aren't worrying about material RNG. Unfortunately for this run, if I don't get enough Medium Monster Bone I just reset. And that's after Zorah 1, aka over an hour into the run.
@@kujojotarostandoceanman2641 The thing is that "improve and adapt" isn't really a thing in MHW. It's pretty rare to get enough mats for a better weapon from just one hunt, and you obviously can't get two. so it's bone or ore stuff, and to save time you can really only focus on one of those
I've watched all of your recent Xeno% runs that you have been uploading. I'm excited to see how the routing improves whenever you do another no add-ons run!
He is counting down when he needs to start a perfect rush, to perfectly time it for when nergigante gets up. That way he gets the next topple, as monsters cannot be toppled again during one.
I was waiting for this restricted run. Having to update routing on the fly is one of the most interesting parts of runs for me. No addons Fatalis% next?
@@JalBagel Yea I thought there might be some interesting gear routing decisions moving from HR into MR because I know Guardian/Defender gear is used until Viper Tobi (I think). I don't know very much about the speedrun though so maybe the decisions are more boring than I'm giving them credit for.
@@PopeCharlesIV Yea unfortunately since we arent "grinding" we generally dont get enough materials for fun progressional options. Instead tou just kinda take what the game gives you in LR/HR then farm Iron set in MR.
Yes, it would technically be faster. However, we haven't made a ruling on allowing it yet, so I'm not using it in this run. A few of us are still testing how it affects the whole run.
I'm glad someone will refrain from using those trap sets, especially for speedrunning. I'd rather see a speedrunner plan out what exactly they craft and when to get the best time instead of slapping on an overpowered set and facerolling the entirety of low and high rank. I've seen so many new players who don't know better immediately craft them and only use them until pretty much end game, undermining the entire purpose of monster hunter. I get someone will appreciate having them for one reason or another but they're so antithetical to the gameplay loop that I can't stand them.
You're understanding of Defender weapons is sorely misguided. Yes, theyre strong weapons, but you dont just "faceroll" the game. Our attacks and and decisions are very carefully scripted and chosen to achieve the fastesr possible times. We've spent hundreds of hours testing and scripting fights with Defender weapon to get the run where it is today. It's an incredibly high skill ceiling to play optimally with Defender weapons. Plus, the "With Add-Ons" category (i.e. the category that allows Defender and Guardian) has no material RNG now (it used to, we just got better at the game and routed it all out) which makes it less reset heavy and more marathon safe. I'm running No Add-Ons right now because it hasn't been run in over a year, there are a lot of new timesaves, routes, and scripts to find/use, and I wanted a change of pace with a run less optimized. Please don't undermine other categories or speedrunners because you think those resources are too good or too broken. We have separate caregories to eliminate that behavior. And people will play/run however they want. Don't be that hunter getting worked up over how other people choose to enjoy the game. Just enjoy it! (p.s. on another causal perspective, Defender takes out hundreds of hours of grinding that may not be possible for some players, like people with fulltime jobs or families to take care of; try seeing it from another perspective)
@@JalBagel I'm not undermining any speedrunner's abilities, I fully understand how much time and practice they put in to this, when I say overpowered and faceroll I'm speaking to the sheer stat difference between the gear you can get at any given point naturally and what the defender/guardian gear can do. I find it more interesting to see how the rng drops affect someone's gear sets and what they do to compensate for it for the speedrun than simply crafting full defenders. That's extremely minor to my main issue with it, which is non-speedrunning. I have a full time job, I have friends with jobs and 3+ children. I get not having enough time a lot of days for more than an hour or two. I still don't think personally that should mean bypassing the core gameplay loop of the entire franchise, especially when said new player doesn't necessarily know better. I get it, and I know I sound like an ass for saying I'd rather it not be inclusive to everyone, but I've seen so many games devolve from what they were because they attempted to appeal to everyone. A worry in the back of my mind is it's eventually going to happen here too, and it always starts with something small that grows. I respect your opinion on it too and I get wanting to share a game you love with others.
love this category, amp up the complexity and a little more gounded like "what can you do in the fastest without using op sets"

02:38:00 what's the deal with 1,2,3 during Nergigante?
He is counting down when he needs to start a perfect rush, to perfectly time it for when nergigante gets up. That way he gets the next topple, as monsters cannot be toppled again during one.
Exactly what kaoruraven said! You can't get a topple or clagger during one, so I have to time my PR Finisher to end when those animations end.

No Add-ons Fatalis% would be the same run from MR to Fatalis. No Add-ons only really effects LR/HR and the first few quests of MR.

quick question, how does the framerate thing that allows you button mash quicker effect your time?

I sent this to my sns main friend because he does less damage than this guy with his end game build lol
Is there a category that speedruns all the arena quests and would you consider running it?
There isnt and maybe? I like arena quests a lot. Maybe I'll try this one day. Could be cool!
