@@MalcolmRobinsonMusic You have no idea, dude. You do such an amazing job. I'm hard to please when it comes to video game music arrangements and you knock it completely out of the park every single time. Keep on keeping on, you have a dedicates following who adores your work.
That was probably the peak of the golden age of Castlevania, which lasted from Symphony of the Night in 1997 to Order of Ecclesia in 2008, with countless amazing tracks from Michiru Yamane.
There's very little going on in it which would have to be done in post production (save for the violin harmonizing with itself) which adds to the feeling of overall authenticity. Also helps the audio is EXTREMELY crisp.
I've listened to many covers of this great piece and I don't get why this one is so underrated. It nails the violins perfectly and has a great mix of elec guitar and orchestra. Really good job!
Thanks! It's only a couple weeks old, so I don't think it could be considered underrated at this point. It takes a little while for videos to rise in the search ranking. Anyway, I'm really glad you liked my version.
The choice of strings for the bridge and final section is *delicious*. EDIT : And the enhanced staccato around 0:37, I- the contrast with the original is so noticeable and so gripping !
The GBA's awful sound chip held back so much good music composition. I'm really happy to hear a proper remaster for this. Any chance for Awake to get the same treatment? Aria had so much good music. But I suppose Castlevania in general is a dense goldmine of aural excellence.
I totally agree with your comment. I've often thought of Castlevania as a gold mine for source music. I gave Awake a shot in 2015, but I couldn't get it to sound good enough. I've learned a lot since then, so I think I could pull it off now. Not sure when it'll happen though.
@@MalcolmRobinsonMusic I'm sure your list of want to dos is butting up against your time to dos! Regardless, I'll look forward to it someday! Keep up the great work!
Thanks! I went for a cleaner rock sound on this one by using close mic positions and minimal reverb. It also helps that the composition itself gives a lot of space for the instruments.
You're welcome. They really need to do a collection pack for all the portable Castlevania RPGs. Edit: Funny how some time after this post, I got my wish granted to an extent. XD
Thanks! I imagine it would work well in an actual game. The only consideration is that game music tends to have less dynamic range so that the sound effects are always audible.
@@MalcolmRobinsonMusic Awesome, I haven't thought about the need to adjust the dynamic range and it makes total sense. Thanks for the info and answer! I hope your music reaches more people!
Oh man, you faked me out, I saw "Castlevania" and "Clock Tower" and immediately thought you did the theme from Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. You should do that one when you have time.
I had a feeling that would happen. I believe that track is called Clockwork, but it's a clock tower theme, so the name could still apply. I'd really like to cover it someday.
That's what I thought this was too at first. Never played this one, and this is the first time hearing it for me, but still am really enjoying this track. @@MalcolmRobinsonMusic I see, and I'm glad, you've incorporated and improved with electric guitar sounds. Will Final Fantasy VI - The Fierce Battle (Atma Weapon) be getting an update? It's already really good either way.
@@bardacuda82 Yes, Atma Weapon will eventually get a huge update. At least I hope it's a huge update. I think I can make it sound much better for the album, but I haven't started/re-started it yet. It will be on Final Fantasy VI: Orchestral Selections Vol. II.
@@MalcolmRobinsonMusic Nice! I'm sure it'll be awesome once it drops. Keep up the good work, sir! Do you have any merchandise like t-shirts or something? Does it help to support you by listening on Spotify??
A beautiful arrangement as always! Mr. Robinson, can you please cover Offense and Defense from Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance. I feel you are the only one who can do it justice. Do you have a patreon?
Thanks! "Offense and Defense" isn't on my Castlevania list, but I'll give it another listen. I decided early on not to use Patreon for various reasons. Getting your views and comments is really all the support I need.
It might be because I used many of the same sample libraries and the combination of solo strings and bigger ensemble strings, but I think this one turned out much better. I didn't really know what I was doing with my arrangement of Asgore.
your versions always sound like my memory insists the originals always sounded
That's what makes Malcom the absolute beast, isn't it? He's easily one of the most criminally underrated channels on TH-cam.
I wish I had a hundred accounts so I could like all your arrangements with the force of a hundred hand slap.
Thanks! I appreciate the sentiment.

I always used to think the bit at 0:34 was a woman screaming in the distance, like what the remix did instead here lol
AoS one of my favourite Castlevanias ever, 2003 was a great year for the series (Lamment of Innocence being released the same year some months later)

Super happy to see you cover this song. This is easily my favorite track from Aria of Sorrow
Yeah, it's my favorite too.
Every remaster you do is spot on and faithful, and it's bonkers how good every song is
Glad you're enjoying them!
Every Clock Tower in Castlevania is a banger
This one in particular goes especially hard considering the hardware
I love this take on the piece
It's amazing how much this sounds like live instruments.

Welcome back, sounds great!
Thank you!
You got the magic touch. This sounds great.
Thank you! It's one of my better arrangements.

man, aria of sorrow has many themes that give me goosebumps. Great work!
Thank you for remebering me of this piece, GBA' crapy sound didnt allow me to appreciate this one properly and now I can
Great!
So glad you're back my man
Glad to be back!
Why was I not notified immediately when this came out!? TH-cam - you and your bell icon have failed me!

This is good. Reminds me of playing the game.
One of my favourite tracks off of the Aria OST- excellent work! 💜👍🏻
I just got PTSD from all the goddamn Medusa Heads
So, like... congratz for that, man
You freakin nailed it brother 👍🏽
*MALCOLM IS BACK YALL EVERYONE GET IN HERE*
We are blessed with Castlevania music
! Awesome!
Great changing ❤
You're awesome. Please do some stuff from the old Mortal Kombat OSTs, nobody ever remixes anything from that series except the damn movie theme.
Astonishing
YYYEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHHH FINALLY I’VE WAITED SO LONG FOR THIS AND IT’S PERFECT
I didn't know anyone was waiting for this track specifically, but I'm glad you like how it turned out.
Whacked it out of the park, as usual
Excellent work on this. A shame I never got to play Aria of Sorrow.
Thanks! I barely remember the game, but I remember the soundtrack.

¡Que gran trabajo!
Any chance of doing "Eneomaos Machine Tower" ? That song is one of the best in the entire saga....
Love the buildup in this one. Any plans to cover Heart of Fire?
Thanks! Heart of Fire isn't very high on my Castlevania list, so it's unlikely I'll cover it, or at least not anytime soon.

all of my yes
I got excited when I saw "Sorrow" but then it wasn't "Dawn of". Still, amazing arrangement to a great tune.
Some parts of this music somehow reminds me of Asgore. I wish you had used a bit electric guitar on your Asgore cover too.

Great job on this. Loved the soundtrack to the clock tower, hated the damn Medusa in the tower. -_-
Would you cover some theme from the OST of Treasure of the Rudras? (a.k.a. Rudora no Hihou).
I've gotten requests for Treasure of the Rudras before, but I don't plan to cover it because I generally only cover music for games that I've played.
