As a Dexter OG, now that we’re halfway through Original Sin, I’ll say this: Original Sin is very well made. Casting and production-wise, it’s knocked it out of the park. I think this bodes very well for Resurrection. I remain unconvinced that Original Sin will add anything meaningful to the Dexter universe in the grand scheme of things. So far, it’s a “nice to have, shows the care the creatives are gonna be putting into the sequel, ultimately probably not essential viewing”.

They need to dirty and mess up the sets and locations more to get that authentic Miami feeling, like at the festival in the Dexter pilot where people were beating crab claws with mallets and their juices spattered. Original Sin looks too clean

Which is Doakes first name, he's in reg uniform and working towards detective. Legit has similar face and exactly how I'd imagine doakes before he went into special forces. This takes place late 80s to early 90s. He could definitely take a few tours between now and then in between making detective. I suspect acter his tours is when he starts getting bad vibes from Dex.

Flat out, the first episode did wonders for Harry and re-did the 'Dexter in a Wig' episode. If this was a cash grab, why would they do that and not something more aimed at attracting via artificial hype? Sure, the first 2 minutes of the episode could be called that, sure, but after? They gave it more pathos, gave it more care. Slater has already, in 1 episode, surpassed the original rendition of the character (Which is not a dig on the actor, who did a fabulous job, but his character and the 'ghost of Harry' as Dex's conscious got old, real quick, and was an act of self flanderizing by the writers.) It's absolutely worth watching.

Dexter new blood's problem was it became to dramatic and broody. Dexter was at it's best when it was pulpy. A 50s over the top detective story told in the vibrancy and debauchery of Miami. Which Original sin does pretty well. That said instead of a young actor I think it would have been funnier if they just put Michael C. Hall in a wig as young Dexter like the original series did.

As an original show GenXr. I watched the show when it first came out. Certainly a story worth telling! It’s great. Not sure who the naysayers are, shush to them.
I really like it and it’s entertaining but I can’t shake the feeling that it’s an unnecessary cash grab while watching it. We haven’t learned anything important about Dexter that we didn’t know. Some Harry backstory but the show is Dexter not Harry.
Definitely a cash grab, but I can't fault it, it's clear that the cast are very passionate about the original show and characters and it feels like Dexter for the most part. It's super enjoyable and gives new Dexter content whilst we wait for the summer for resurrection, I certainly wouldn't complain if it gets a season 2.
I initially thought this show would be shit but I have been pleasantly surprised, the actors all nail the younger versions so far, Batista in particular is uncanny I would’ve believed it if you told me it was the same actor using that reverse aging ai bs

It's definitely possible. I saw a theory that she will discover Dexter's secret and Harry will kill her to keep Dexter safe, and that's why he commits suicide in the main show.
Christian slander doesn’t seem like he trained Dexter atall . He doesn’t seem like he has an authority compared to the original Harry . They just rushed into. Dexter killing again , no training or any thing. They had the chance to do something different , but just kept it the same as original . An im not sure how dexters live flashing before his eyes is able to show us flash backs from Harry . More telling then showing us much

IMO I think Dexter as a series has been going down hill for a while now (I’m looking at you Dexter: New Blood) and I’m still on the fence about this new show. I don’t think it’s bad so far but was it really necessary? especially if in this series they’ve retconned Dexter’s death in New Blood. Might as well make a new series about Dexter’s life after surviving the bullet wounds and maybe trying to find his son? I do think this prequel show is a cash grab but I guess we’ll see where it goes. Showtime isn’t stopping any time soon with that’s for sure

Hm I didn't even think about that. That is a pretty fair criticism considering season 1 of Dexter kinda had a grimy look to it.

My assumption was that this was after Harry trained him and taught him the code. I think theyd didnt want repeat story of flashbacks of the og show.
