Timeless classic that I've listened to since I was a boy and am now in my 60s. Thank you for sharing this tutorial.
Hey thanks Chuck - it's one of the best songs of all time for sure. I hope you'll enjoy playing it. Best to you, Shane
I heard Rick Beato say that and now I hear you agree with him. I also agree. I just love it. Glen Campbell was such an underrated guitar player for a guy who was one of the best.
Thank you Kevin - I absolutely agree with you - Glen Campbell was the king for sure. My best to you! Shane
Kind of an emotional song for me. Reminds of when I was young and my dad drove me on my paper route when the weather was bad. He’d be listening to the radio this was one of those songs from that era. And such a melancholy vibe to this song. Lost my dad 4 years ago. Every time I hear this song I think of Dad. Thanks for sharing Shane, love this song.
Great stuff - thanks Doug. Cheers, Shane
"And I need you more than want you. And I want you for all time."
I hadn't noticed those lyrics until I met my partner. Now i understand. That's love.
A great line for sure Matt - can't beat Jimmy Webb as a songwriter - So good. My best to you, Shane
Mom loves Country music. I always loved this one. So beautiful.
For sure Robin - great song! Shane
Very nice! I recorded this one for my channel just 4 days ago. I didn't see your video until just now. I used the same chords more or less. I cheated a little bit though. I played along with a backing track I found on TH-cam. It is the greatest song ever written. It contains the best lyrics line of all time. That being, and I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time.
Fantastic for sure - I really appreciate you taking the time to comment and I’m always glad to hear from you my best to you! Shane
Thanks. I think that C9 chord was the anchor for this song . Never had heard it before 1968 in a pop song. I think I'll try it tuned down a half step so I can sing it (maybe)!
Agreed - they weren't afraid to add colour in the chords and in the arrangements back then....unlike nowadays where it's all so straight-ahead and mundane. Cheers, Shane
I love your tutorials. Unpretentious and engaging. Thanks.
Thank you Chuck - very much appreciated! Shane
Another great classic for me to learn and get down here on a very hot Summers day here in the UK. Such a beautiful song. Thank you.
Hey please enjoy my friend. It's a very hot summer day here in Ottawa, Canada today - I have to make the video super early in the morning before the big heat. Ugh. Shane
I haven't heard that song in a long time. A classic for sure. Thank you Shane
A classic indeed Jimmy - hope you'll give it a go and have a bit of fun with it, Shane
Shane, you rock. This is one my "all-time" favorites. Great arrangement.....thanks pal...
Very glad to hear that Chris - a big thank you for taking the time to comment and I hope you have fun with it! Shane
Thanks Shane. Great song, so beauteous, so rich.
Thank you Lee - great song for sure. Have fun with it and thanks for taking the time to comment! Shane
Thanks for the lesson. And yeah, this is one of the best songs of all time. Absolute perfection.
Absolutely Scott - thanks for that. Happy to have you here with us. Cheers, Shane
Thanks again, Shane, for another great lesson! Much appreciated.
Thank you Frank - very glad you're enjoying . My best to you! Shane
Awesome Shane. I love this classic and did learn it at one time. I'm going to re-learn it again using your arrangement and play it around my firepit this summer. Thanks for sharing.
Fabulous - I hope you have a ton of fun with it. Best to you, Shane
The feel of this tune has to support the lyrics for it to hit the soul.
Incredible how it takes our imagination. 😎👍👍
Thanks Shane😎👍👍
😎✌👍❤🖖
Fabulous Richard - thanks for that - always happy to hear from you lad. Shane
So glad you’ve taken this song on , looked at it many times but no one has broken it down in a manageable way. Of course you do what you do the best. Great job can’t wait to get at it .
Thank you Rick - I appreciate you man. Very encouraging. Cheers! Shane
Beautiful chord progressions
For sure - I love this song. Cheers! Shane
Hi Shane ! What a song choice ! So worth the time it will take to learn these new chords. Glen Campbell will always be remembered as a member of the Wrecking Crew and one of the all time great guitarists. Can’t thank you enough for a lesson on this classic gem . Thanks again for what you do
Hey David - a big thank you for that. Hugely encouraging and we agree on all counts. Glen was a Gentleman - through and through. Best to you and thank you for taking the time to comment. Cheers, Shane
I'm on day two watching this video. I remember back in the late 60's to early 70's, I watched the Glen Campbell Good Time Hour every week. Great TV show. BTW: you have a great voice.
Hey thank you Rodger - that really me as me a lot to me - Glen Campbell was a gentleman - and one hell of a guitar player/singer.
My best to you and thanks for always being here. 😊🇨🇦👍
Love the Colin Hay cover as well. Thanks for the great lesson!!
Me too - thanks for mentioning that Jonathan. Love Colin Hay! Shane
Shane, this my favorite song of all time! What a great lesson you just gave, guess I’m gonna have to oil up the axe and give it a go!! Thanks for all of your lessons they’re the best!!
Hey thank you Brian - very encouraging and I appreciate it. My best to you! Shane
Fantastic lesson! I can’t wait to give it a go…
Great - thanks Don - hope you have fun with it! Shane
First timer on your channel and you're a great teacher. I'll be playing Lineman this July 4th for some folks toasting Old Glory and digging it thanks to you Mr Work. Plus, that wacky C bar chord is in the chorus of The Story In Your Eyes by the Moody Blues, a reminder there. That'll be on the set list now too. I wish the world would decide that Wichita Lineman was the only "on hold" music. Too many abuse it trying to annoy folks into hanging up... like those 3 digit calls for city services
If anyone here ever has the chance to see Jimmy Webb, don't miss the show; great music of course and the stories behind the songs. If not, the Beato interview of him is priceless. The mutual admiration and friendship between Jimmy Webb and Glen Campbell endures in the genuine story telling that JW brings to his shows. Great lesson Shane, and hope to see more Jimmy Webb tunes featured in the years to come!
Absolutely Jordan - a big thank you for that. Cheers, Shane
Great song taught by a fantastic instructor.
Hey thank you Rodger - greatly appreciated and always happy to have you here with us. Cheers! Shane
Thank you for this. One of my favorite songs of all time! I can’t wait to learn this after work! Btw, you have a good voice.
Fabulous - very glad to hear that indeed - I hope you have a ton of fun with it and thanks for being here with us! Shane
Love this song. It will be a fun one as I’m slowly getting back into my playing.
Making sure I’m doing all my stretching and warmups and so far so good 🤞No numb or tingling fingers.
It’s all coming back quite quickly and having a blast, plus it takes my mind off my knee as it heals. (I really sound like I’m falling apart🥴)
Thanks again for these, hope your summer is going well.
Hey Wally - glad to hear from you lad - I hope you pick it up again slow and sure. I know what tendon/joint trouble feels like - have the best fun with this song. Shane
Yes, follow Rick Beato, always a Glenn Campbell fan and this song is amazing...........now can't wait to hear your rendition. I'm sure it's amazing.......
Have fun with it! Shane.
LISTEN... My ABSOLUTE favorite song of ALL Time. It is the BEST. Jimmy Webb masterpiece and Glen made it the timeless classic it is and always will be. LOVE!!! Thank you Shane.

very nice i am always growing as a musician, singer song writer and this will help
As are we all . - it's so great to be open to moving forward and not staying stuck in what we already know. My best to you! Shane
A beauty for sure Shane
Thank you Johnny - this has ALWAYS been a favourite of mine - hope you have fun with it! Shane
Love your channel and how you teach guitar and structure of songs. May I request El Camino by Amos Lee? I really appreciate your finger picking lessons!

Hey thank you Tim - great to hear from you and I appreciate you taking the time. My best to you! Shane
Nice one. Thanks 🤠
Glad you enjoyed - thank you! Shane
Excellent!
Thank you - glad you enjoyed - and for the record, Alaska is the most beautiful place on earth. Shane
@@GuitarAtWork Only place I’ve been that compares is BC.
Glen Campbell -- great artist! Wichita Lineman -- great song! I knew it'd been around awhile, but 1968?! I would've guessed sometime in the '70s. I can remember hearing it on the car radio when I was a kid back then. Back when Atlanta's WSB-AM played music.
Anyway -- great song and a great lesson as usual. I always love your playalongs. They make this channel unique compared to all the other tutorial channels on TH-cam. Thanks!
A big thank you for that - Very glad you're enjoying and I really appreciate the encouraging words. My best to you and let's have fun with it! Shane
@@GuitarAtWork I saw the Rick Beato video you were talking about by the way, where he talks about this song being one of the greatest ever.
Did you also watch his interview with Jimmy Webb? Great vid! Well worth a watch if you haven't seen it yet.
@@LMacNeill thanks for that - I did see that video. Absolutely fabulous. I’m very thankful for Rick Beato’s work - hugely important for music in general. Cheers! Shane
If you do the little base run at the beginning and the base in the middle of the song it really sets the performance off in a special way.
I totally agree with you - and.....I said I'd show the bass run at the beginning after we talked about the chords but I completely forgot. It's perfectly written out on the song sheet detail page. Best to you and have fun with it. Shane
Thanks for the reply.
I appreciate you taking the time to comment Joseph - best to you, Shane
Awesome, I'm going to give it a try tomorrow. I've been wanting to try this one forever, and the first time I tried was an awful experience.
Enjoy it Wendy - such a great song! Shane
hello Shane, i like this song. Thanks for doing all you do. A little off topic, I could not resist and purchased a used 12 string and was wondering if you have done any 12 string videos? thanks Joe.
Thanks Joe - very glad you like this one - I haven't done any songs that specifically require a 12-string but many of the songs on this channel could be played on one for sure. Have fun with it! Shane
Hell yea
Thanks Walker - hope you enjoy! Shane
Thanks for your breakdown of this song. Nice work. However, for the purists out there, this is not "completely" how he played the song. There are plenty of videos of him playing that I have looked at and they are all generally the same. Granted, he was notorious for changing it up over the years but it was still mostly intact. To be fair though, when Rick Beato broke it down, he did it roughly the same as you. Keep up the great work though. I have learned a lot on your channel.
Thanks Mark - I completely agree....here's the thing....if you have a full band and are free to roam on the guitar you'd play the same chords but in different places on the guitar as well as adding bursts of lead stuff as he did so well. Best to you, Shane
@@GuitarAtWork Absolutely. I just very rarely saw him use any bar chords when playing this song which was my comment but to your point, you can play them in different places and get the same sound. Just a purist thing. Have a nice one, stay out of the heat and keep up the great work!
Maybe that lineman will take a trip to Galveston : )
Love it - thanks man. 😀
great job, just wondering if your reading of an eye pad and what software your using?
Thanks Greg - glad you enjoyed. On the iPad I use an app called notability to read and organize pdfs. Cheers, Shane
They must have said to themselves ..." lets write a song that has every rare & difficult chord we can think of in it "....
Ha! I understand why you might think that if these chords are new to you - truth is....they're really not that strange - I promise! Shane
Yup one and walk a chicken... its like aerobics.... checking out campbell with just guitar and he started with straight 8s strums and then varied it up finger pick and strum and some different patterns sounded great, good voice. Over all, one and walk a chicken went along with the tune well though
Fabulous. Thanks for that. My best to you, Shane
You forgot to show us the baseline intro
You’re right. Argh. It’s on the details sheet. 😊
😢😢😢
If you're saying it's a very touching song I fully agree with you, Shane
@@GuitarAtWork I didn't say it was a touching song I never really cared for it
@@dontlietome1418 sorry to hear that - you’re definitely in the minority there.
@@GuitarAtWork In the minority of what.. 50?
