YOU ARE SUCH AN AMAZING TEACHER🙏GRATITUDE BEYOND WORDS-for all the heartfelt, accessible ways you share your gift and love of music with us- THANK YOU SHANE- my playing has made made leaps and bounds from your videos- YOU ARE A GIFT- Sincerely!🕊💜🙏
I used to do this song with my friend Steve…..he passed away 6 years ago and I quit playing…..I since have continued my 55 year old journey and will relearn this tune….
Great lesson! Thank you. I practice this song quite a while but there's always something nee about it. By the way - I would really like to hear you sing it. Your voice seems perfect for Cash Covers 😊
Johnny Cash just took this song to a new place. The album American IV: The Man Comes Around, is amazing and incredibly emotional. Thanks for showing us this.
My Dad was a huge JC fan so I grew up listening to Johnny (whether I liked it or not…lol). When he passed away in June of 2012 told me about one time he, another buddy and my Dad were traveling somewhere together, and kept playing this same song over and over again to the point it was driving the other two crazy. This guy couldn’t remember who sang it or what the song was called. He just remembered it was one of the “old school country guys”. This guy mentioned it to me because he said obviously the song meant a lot to my Dad so it might be nice to play at his service. Somehow I knew right away who he meant and what song it would be. I pulled out my phone and brought up JC’s video of ‘Hurt’ on TH-cam. He heard the opening and almost yelled, “That’s it! How did you know?” (This guy seemed to forget he was my Dad…so I’d known him a lot long than he had…lol). I am going to learn this in honour of my Dad. I don’t know why I didn’t years ago. Thanks for another great lesson.
Hello Sir, Ive been playing for 40+ years and love your videos. I’ve learned a ton of simple tunes and enjoy how well you explain the basics. Keep up the great work!
Such a fantastic and haunting song . And such an awesome lesson as always . Seems I have lots of work to do so i better get started . Thank You so darn much for this .
Thank you Rick - it means the world to me to hear that you liked the expression angle toward the end of the video - Thanks for taking the time here. Shane
Hi Shane firstly id like to say that you are my favourite guitar teacher on youtube and no other channel compares to yours ...i just wanted to know about your setup because your guitar sounds amazing ... if you haven any tips on how i can make mine sound even remotely close to yours i would greatly appreciate it....what are the strings you use? and is your guitar tuned differently??
Hey thanks for that - very glad you’re enjoying and I really appreciate the encouragement. I’m using a Taylor 814ce (2019) - I really like it. You’re hearing it plugged directly into a mixer/recorder with a bit of reverb and compression added at mixdown. I use Elixir HD Light strings and standard tuning. My best to you! Shane
Ooh, I'm "borrowing" your chorus for sure, I like it way better than the Up/Down strumming of it. You are right, it was hard to go Strum+Root instead of Root+Strum. Took me a few minutes for my brain to kick me in the rear :) Been playing this since Paul Davids years ago listed it as one of the songs that helped him learn guitar. Such a great song!
Love the song choice and love your channel. I just used your discount code at Singular Sound and bought the Beat Buddy. I'd be in favor of some more Cash songs or perhaps Merle Haggard. Merle Haggard has a lot of great guitar playing on his songs. "Red Bandana", "Working Man Blues", "Ramblin Fever", etc. Just some suggestions...I'm sure you get a lot of those...LOL Thanks for having a great channel.
Fantastic - very glad to have you here with us - congrats on your BeatBuddy purchase - I love mine! Thanks for being here and for voicing your thoughts - need more like you! Shane
Hi mate, there is a video of his last performance of this song on you tube for those interested. Totally haunted and passion . Cash totally heart felt rendition. 💓. Thanks for sharing Shane, great video as usual. Cheers ☕️ ✨️
Hey there. I’m putting a Taylor 814ce guitar and it’s plugged directly into the recorder with a bit of reverb and compression added at mixdown. Best to you! Shane
The minute he starts singing you KNOW his voice is made for this song... WOW
A big thank you for that. My best to you! Shane

Like Chris Stapleton did Tennessee whiskey.

. Trent Resnor basically said it's not his song anymore after hearing Johnny Cash version
I heard that too - that must be so strange for him. Cheers! Shane
