I probably don't say this as often as I really should but Two-Face is one of my favorite Batman villains of all time. Hell, he might just be my second most preferred rogue right after the Scarecrow. I was wondering when you'd get around to making this video and it absolutely does not disappoint. I've got to say I think Two-Face for the most part has been portrayed excellently across all forms of media (Batman Forever excluded) On the question of what is my favorite version of the character, I'd have to go with the majority and say the TAS version, it just translated the character brilliantly in most every aspect and I really liked that he was the second most recurring rogue on that show right after the Joker. My second favorite is the version from the Telltale Games and I also really like Aaron Eckhart, William Shatner and the version from the Arkham Games in spite of his lack of screen time.
The actor who played Harvey Dent in the recent film was fantastic at his role. He single handily pulled of a challenge if I suggested to another individual it would cause me to be reprimanded for having a stupid idea. It is focusing on the Harvey Dent's side for a long time before he became Two Face and make a story focusing on Harvey before his fall to be the focus instead of him acting as the villain. The only time he changes is as a side arch and he only behaves like him for a short period at the end of the story. This actor pulled off the impossible. He made Harvey Dent interesting, charismatic, and likable that I and others enjoyed it every time he was on screen without him being Two Face. That actor and the writers should be proud of themselves. He was the definitive Harvey Dent actor best suited for the role and his portrayal. Not only did they succeeded in this assuming impossible task. They helped strengthen the tragedy of the character. Instead of just Batman and other characters who known of the fall sadden and hurt by this change the audience watching Harvey Dent feels the same emotions. They too like the other characters in the story want to see the character be redeemed and saved. They want the old Harvey back as well. When he has his final moments It turned the actor's portrayal and character, Harvey Dent, into a immortal martyr for us to have against the Joker. I hope others in the future to play the character take notes and learn from his tenure of the role.
A perfect review of the history of Two Face! My favourite appearance of Two Face is Batman # 234. The cover of that issue is beautiful and a masterpiece! Neal Adams perfectly captured the duality of Harvey Dent and Two Face! For me this is the greatest Batman comics cover of all time!
Have you listened to Batman the Audio Adventures? Highly recommend. There’s a bit in it where Two Face terrorizes Penguin by using legal loop holes as to where Penguin has no legal course of action. I’d like to see Two Face use the law to his advantage more often. In doing so, Batman can’t stop him or have him arrested. I’d also like for him to be legal counsel for other rouge’s and exploit laws to get charges dropped.
I definitely think that the animated series Two-Face is the definitive depiction of the character. I remember watching the episode where Two-Face made his debut as a kid. That whole dream sequence that Harvey is having in the beginning definitely sent shivers up my spine. Although personally, I thought his depiction in the Dark Knight Returns and the Telltale Games series were pretty good. I definitely thought the love triangle between Harvey, Bruce, and Selena was an interesting new twist. I even like his depiction in the Arkham series video games. I did also enjoy his more comedic portrayals, though not as much as his more serious one.
The discussion of Batman's #2 rogue is always interesting. If we're going by icon-status and popularity over level of enemy, it's obviously Catwoman. Right now if I had to consider someone as Batman's #2 rogue, I would say Bane. However, I consider Bane to share the title of Batman's #1 rogue with the Joker. Bane is also #1 rogue, but on the flip side of the rogues coin.
If you go by iconic status Penguin, Riddler, and Catwoman all are higher than Two Face even if he was given a personal relationship with Batman in the late 80s'. Two Face looms large, but a quartet are bigger than him.
Bravo Alley In his relatively short history, he’s challenged Batman like no other enemy has. Bane is a force of nature that only keeps growing in popularity. What other comic book villains debuting in 1993 have already reached icon status, been featured primarily in two major film series, and become an A-lister to the most popular superhero there is?
The Fabulous, Horny Aunt Harriet interesting. I've been away from comics and therefore I'm not totally up to date. But I feel he's like Doomsday. He had one great arc and nothing has matched up to that. He was not good in Batman and Robin movie and he was disappointing in The Dark Knight Rises. But I respect your opinion.
The Fabulous, Horny Aunt Harriet Two Face may not have appeared in the Adam west batman tv show, but he is just as iconic as Joker, Penguin, Riddler and Catwoman.
Two-Face never appeared on the Batman '66 show due to the creators feeling that he would be too grotesque and scary for the kids watching. It's the same reason the villain False Face had only 1 run on the show as False Face actor Malachi Throne (who coincidentally voiced Two-Face's 3rd persona, The Judge, in the series finale episode of Batman The Animated series/The New Batman Adventures) confirmed that they also felt the mask was a little too scary for the kids so they never bought him back. Sucks because the 2 False Face episodes were some of my absolute favorite ones on the show. Great video once again my friend.
Amazing video, one of your best yet! While I personally don't think he's the number 2 bat rogue he's definitely close! He's an amazing and complex villain who is unique. Also yes to a sinestro video!
I absolutely love these long complete history vids. I know they probably take a long time but, plz do more. Maybe mad hatter because he doesn’t have a huge history and is one of my favorite rouges.
Love these Rogue History videos. Twoface is such a great villain, the best depictions of him are from the comics & BatmanTAS. Batman TAS certainly has the best origin. It’s simple yet gives him enough complexity that it doesn’t feel like it’s dumbed down.
This was worth the wait! Great job as always Rogues. It is a shame that Dent has dropped in terms of popularity, but with Joker overshadowing every other bat-rogue, it's not surprising. It is also a shame that Two-face won't appear in Gotham, making it the second time that Dent was snubbed out of the chance to appear in a live action tv show. Hopefully he will be the main villain in a future live action batman film. As for your future videos, I cannot wait for the complete history of Penguin and Sinestro, two of my favourite DC villains. Any plans on making a video of the complete history of the Reverse Flash in the future, or will you wait for the flash movie (if it is ever made)?
Dont really have plans for Reverse Flash at the moment.. it might happen some time though. I really should cover SOME Flash villain in this series at least. Reverse and Cap Cold are the biggest candidates I guess, as they're the two mains.
I've often thought that, as awesome as Two-Face undoubtedly is, Joker simply has a charisma that Mr Dent is not able to match. And whereas as he's somewhat predictable, Joker is just pure, randomised chaos, which frequently makes him a more vibrant character to watch.
@@hetaera3418 Two Face can be just as charismatic as that overrated jester. Frankly I am sick of everyone putting that fucking clown on a damn pedestal.
Two-Face is in my opinion is actually one of the most tragic and sympathetic villain in DC Comics. And yes I do blame Batman. Also I really wish that they made him more of a hero or even a antihero.
He should be more brutal than Red Hood/Huntress, but still not as evil as Joker/Scarecrow. There's a very fine line that most writers struggle to have him walk
This is definitely more up my alley! Its interesting to see what you give and what small bits that are glossed over. So far you covered villains who appeared early, but only became relevant after a return to comics after a prolonged absence after just a few stories. Mr. Freeze and Mad Hatter also fall into this and like Riddler had other media to thank for further use after the dust off. How do you feel about your last 3 videoes? Creatively free and fun and not limited? The main thing is that you enjoy making the videos.
Great and complete job on Two Face s development and his portrayal on different media. As you point out the character has had a low profile on recent years. Ps Nice to see Duela Dent on your video.
I think the Two Face character did receive some attention boast to his character during the 2000s from those Nolan films. The problem was... he was competing with the Joker by another actor giving his own unique take of the character we never seen before, with the developers putting more time and effort on him to make him entertaining in the plot. To top it all off Harvey was never given as much fantastical exciting action and the cunning scheming behavior like the Joker in the film. When Harvey changed he didn't really do anything as sensational like him. All he did was go out and kill people he believed to have wronged him. There wasn't as much fantastical sensational witty or exciting stuff to happen. He just went out and hunted them down one by one. It was very simple. This naturally this does not foster a growing interest in the character by people. This especially when the actor playing the Joker was providing them with more sensational action and witty sadistic banter captivating us. It's only natural for the Joker to over shadow Harvey Dent and Two face in this situation. Basically, the Nolan films spent most of their time building up Harvey Dent as, "The White Knight of Gotham," more than they spent periods constructing Two Face - "The Gotham's underworld's Triumph." (He is the product of Gotham's corruption finally corrupting its most pure heart champions to become the underworld's white knight for them and Gotham punishment for having so much corruption.)
This may be a generic answer, but my favorite form has to be from Batman the Animated History. I remember reading the old ending of Two Face, the happy one, and I actually found it very fitting. Hopefully someone can bring that back. I like the idea of redemption for him. Good video Mr. Rogues. I look forward to the Penguin review, and really like the idea of Sinestro. I look forward to your next videos.
I always wanted BTAS Two Face to reform so it was a shame he ended the series even more insane with a third personality and presumably staying in Arkham until the day he died.
I would have to say that my favorite version of Two-Face is from Batman: The Animated Series. And when it came to the animated movie based on the 60s TV show, Batman vs Two-Face, there were a couple moments from the movie that were shocking to me. Anyway, I don't know what 'they' were thinking of when it came to the casting of Billy Dee Williams for the role of Harvey Dent in the first Batman movie. I also say that Tommy Lee Jones did an OK job playing Harvey Dent/Two-Face in Batman Forever, even though I did see a few problems with the characterization. But if it were up to me; if there was a time-machine to fix past movie problems, I would have cast Dennis Quaid for the role of Harvey Dent/Two-Face in the Batman films from the 90s should they have been made better with Michael Keaton still as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Tim Burton as an executive producer (not as the director), & Dennis O'Neil as a consultant. I would also have to say that I was among those disappointed that the show Beware the Batman was cancelled before we got a chance to see the 'traditional' Batman villains making their way into the show, such as Two-Face. I also say that Two-Face is among Batman's top-ten villains.
The "Living Jekyll and Hyde' nickname always bugged me. Were the writers convinced Henry Jekyll/Edward Hyde were some kind of unliving, walking dead horror? They may need to re-read the book.
It's weird they chose the actor for Harvey to be black. I wonder could have happen if they followed through with bringing the character out. Would the actor and movie be so good it would have cause a reinventing of the character like Nick Fury, or would it just been a one shot. We will never know.
Great Video! Thank you for the great Uploads because I love Batman and the comics. I bought some comics after I had seen some Videos from you like the circle of violence series. Thank you for the great work!
Such a wonderful tale of Two Face ! I have my fingers crossed for a super-b cinematic role for him in the future 😊 And Sinestro will be interesting to explore ! Will you be doing videos on Deathstroke in the future?
25 seconds in. The Jekyll & Hyde art makes my brain imagine a different title for the pic. Father Mustache vs the evil professor Ghost-Legs and his assistant, Cringe-Man.
This sure must have been your dream video, Rogues, hah. Glad it came out so well! And I had no idea those impostor Twofaces existed... that's sort of fascinating.
Weird how even in the early days his costume NEVER remains the same. Half of his face is always green but the costume It changes every issue. The second half of his suit is checkered (even then not all the time) but the color of it varies from brown, orange, purple and green or pink. Same with the left side.
Hes one of my favorite dc villains and villains ingeneral... Top tier batman character and should get more respect by modern writers. My favorite twoface is from tas but im still waiting to see another version beat him
Although he may be my second or third favorite Batman villain, like you I really love his character. However, I always felt like his character was misused. For me, mostly it was his backstory that got him down a space or two on my list. I always felt like there should be no history of abuse and he grew almost more sheltered. While I really liked the route that they went with him in Dark Knight, I felt like they could have gone even deeper than just a revenge storyline with him, and if they had him around for Dark Knight Rises, they could have built it up more. Besides Joker (who at his core is a psychopathic nihilist), he's one of the few others where a hyper-realistic version can work for his personality. To me, the duality should not be the main focus of Harvey, but the reason why he has it. This should not just be because of hidden mental illness, or snapping when his face gets scarred, but the fact that at heart he is trying to be a good person, but can't understand why he would have evil impulses if he is the "good-guy." Good people aren't supposed to have those, so the more he does bad and likes it, the more disassociated he becomes from reality, so the more he feels like he must be the villain. Yet at the same time, he still wants to be a good guy which is why his personality splits in the first place, trying to contain it. He does not seek help like he should, because he's the "good-guy," the "hero," "one of the strong and strong -willed" and those people are supposed to be powerful enough to conquer their demons. I guess it would be comparable to soldiers who come home from war with PTSD and then get depressed and have a hard time moving on with life, because they can't understand why if others don't seem to have problems, the only reason they do is because they are weaker in some way. Just a thought (a very long one). I haven't read enough Two-Face comics to know if there was ever a writer out there who came at him more from this angle, unfortunately.
I think that take on two-face can still be done with the abuse backstory. He wanted to do good as an adult despite the trauma he faced. No matter what, Harvey should always want to do good. Honestly in my opinion, Two-face should always want to do good as well. I think he just has a very distorted view on what "good" is
Pretty good video, I love two face as a character more than joker, he might be my favorite batman villain. I've liked all incarnations of his even the batman forever movie, yes it was over the top and not really two face, but that was the one that introduced me to a villain who really didn't care if the person lives or dies and leaves it up to a simple coin toss, a 50/50 chance to live or die.
You know what? I am really starting to think that a good idea for DC rogues cinematic treatment would be a movie about their origin stories, with the story told from their prospective, with some good guys apparence here and there. Like a "Cinematic Mr. Rogues". What did make "Batman The Dark Knight" arguebly the best DC movie?? The villian stole the show!! It was a Joker movie featuring Batman as the antagonist. AND IT WAS GREAT!! Not cos Batman was great but cos Joker had all the time to show why he is Such a Great Rogue!! (It starts with Joker and his display of attitude and it becomes a crescendo of madness). And he didn't die at the end of the day. It was the origin of Joker as a Batman rogue. It wasn't just the performance of the actors that made it great. Marvel does likable hero movies with expendable villains, right?? DC could do the opposite of that: Finding its fortune in its villains; even if I personally will always have Victor Von Doom as my favourite, I must admit that DC has many more interesting villains to display.
Yes the penguin my all time favourite villain. And I am with you on your opinion Mr. Rogues. Two Face is a great villain who still feels dethroned by other villains. The live action films and Gotham( love that show by the way ) fails to give us the definitive two face movie. The cartoons on the other hand are a great job with Two Face better than live action. In my opinion there should be a movie featuring the Duke of Duality blended with the original trilogy comic books of the 1940s, eye of the beholder and the BTAS episode trial where he not only puts his enemies who wronged him on a mock trial but also his abusive father. And Batman must stop his old friend from crossing the line before it's too late. Here's the title The Dark Knight: Dealing With Duality or The Strange Case of Two Face. Great video. Love it.
Two-time, stay friends, problem that you can't defend... From what I have heard, Tommy Lee Jones was told to mimic Jack Nicholson's Joker when playing Two-Face, and Jones did what he could. I don't hold it against him, as he wasn't exactly pleased with it either.
Surprised that Two-Face had impostors such as a butler named Wilkins, Paul Sloan, and George Blake. You could say that Two-Face had a pair of double-dealers.
Always thought it’d be cool if they kept his surname Kent in the DC canon; he’d be the Kent’s original child who somehow left the family and caused John/Martha to want so desperately to adopt Kal-El
It’s such an obvious Elseworlds premise that I’m shocked no writer has ever tackled Harvey Dent’s Kent connection or Dr No-Face’s Dent connection either.
You know on the thumbnail, from the side it looks like it says “TORY F FACE”, which is how some people in my country would describe our Prime Minister.
i was at a con and Billy Dee Williams spoke about his role as Dent. He was Adamant that he took the role to be Two-Face, not just DA Dent. He went on to describe that racial politics lead to Tommy Lee taking the role, and that he was paid a substantial sum (by normal human standards) as part of a broken contract for him to play Two-Face. Stickers of a Billy Dee Williams Two face were there... I did not get any Cuz I am cheep.

Also, Two-Face was one of the first comic villains to get an abused-childhood-origin. Back in 1990, it wasn't that big of a cliche yet.

My second favorite is the version from the Telltale Games and I also really like Aaron Eckhart, William Shatner and the version from the Arkham Games in spite of his lack of screen time.

The man of two minds and faces I love this Mr. Rogues
Great job man! To me the animated series version is to me what Two-Face is, as it's what introduced me to the character in the first place.
I suppose so
Two Face is a wonderful villain that I hope we get to see on the big screen again.
I really liked the look of Harvey in the thumbnail.
Nice mention of Black Bat. Good to see him get credit in one of your videos, hopefully; more pulp heroes will follow in his footsteps.
Great video! Eye of the Beholder is by far my favorite Two-Face story
definitely the animated series. that Harvey was perfect. even when they gave him that third personality, the Judge, he was just great.
Huge fan of the channel by the way!!!!
@@SpookMan9mmYo what episode does that happen on?
@@chocolatecake30 S1E5. That whole series is worth checking out if you haven’t listened.
My personal favorite version of the character is in telltale. Another great video, rouges!
Can't wait for Penguin and then to see this series branch outside of Gotham!
Why Bane as #1 with Joker?
Awesome video!! It's great seeing someone having such a vast knowledge of such a unique and creative villain! Can't wait to see more!
That is most likely why, yes. Probably also why they never bothered with Scarecrow. Thanks!
Ah a tome when Two Face was the #2 villain and the 2nd mot appearing villain. Even two face is of one mind. Good times.
Love these Rogue History videos. Twoface is such a great villain, the best depictions of him are from the comics & BatmanTAS. Batman TAS certainly has the best origin. It’s simple yet gives him enough complexity that it doesn’t feel like it’s dumbed down.
Great video, incredible detail and perfect narration as always
Two-Face is awesome!!!! He’s one of my favorite villain.!
Two Face is dandy and all but the less said about One Face the better.
Dude these videos are amazing keep producing awesome content
Two-Face is in my opinion is actually one of the most tragic and sympathetic villain in DC Comics. And yes I do blame Batman. Also I really wish that they made him more of a hero or even a antihero.
He should be more brutal than Red Hood/Huntress, but still not as evil as Joker/Scarecrow. There's a very fine line that most writers struggle to have him walk
Awesome work! Great look at Mr. Dent's history. For me he's Batman's best rogue.

This excellent video is very informative. I love hearing the backstory of this great character.
Theres this wonderful tale of two face from '80. A 2 parter by Marv Wolfman and Irv Novick. The best two face story I've read.
You truly are the best comic critic and character study channel on TH-cam
Thank you very much, that truly means a lot!
Could you do a top 5 telltale batman villains im curious to see where would you put riddler and two face
Xehanort10 Yeah that is a shame. Oh well, maybe we'll get a revisit to the series, like with Batman and Harley Quinn, but more loved by all fans. :)
I would happily watch a two-face film set within the DCAU.
@@Xehanort10 Batman beyond took place in the same universe, and Harvey was confirmed to have been reformed so
Amazing video! Can't wait for the sinestro one
You should do this for all the Clayfaces- now that would be a long episode!
You make informative content and are rational.
I do hope your channel grows, but it will be tough.
I think they knew what they were doing. Both Dent and Jejykl struggle with their Dark sides and usually end up losing the battle
@@zemox2534
True, but, it's that 'The Living' part I was questioning. Not the Jekyll/Hyde part =p
It’s worth noting that in the Lego Batman movie, he’s played by Billy Dee Williams, finally letting him play the role
Please keep making videos, I love watching them.
It's weird they chose the actor for Harvey to be black. I wonder could have happen if they followed through with bringing the character out. Would the actor and movie be so good it would have cause a reinventing of the character like Nick Fury, or would it just been a one shot. We will never know.
Aaron eckharts two face is so underrated it may not be 100 percent comic accurate but u cant deny it's a great performance

The Dark Knight and the version from Batman The Animated Series are my two favorite versions of Harvey Dent/ Two-Face.
Fittingly Two Face is my 2nd favourite Batman villain.
Two-face and Mr Freeze had the best Episodes of.Batman TAS. Hands down.

My favorite twoface is from tas but im still waiting to see another version beat him
Great video on the best batman villain imo two face
I think he just has a very distorted view on what "good" is
I know that its hard to make these videos but id love it if you did it if you made one for joker 🃏.thx for the great vids
The animated Series Two-Face will always be the only one for me
I also love the King of Duality. My favorite version of TwoFace would probably be from Batman the animated series
Mine is from the "Arkham" series
Pretty good video, I love two face as a character more than joker, he might be my favorite batman villain. I've liked all incarnations of his even the batman forever movie, yes it was over the top and not really two face, but that was the one that introduced me to a villain who really didn't care if the person lives or dies and leaves it up to a simple coin toss, a 50/50 chance to live or die.
At least Billy Dee Williams got to be Two-Face in Lego Batman. XD
Yeah, I wish he'd gotten A LOT more screentime though... :(

The imposters interested me because they have gave Harvey Dent a break!
I’m shocked we’ve never had a Two-Face story featuring Two-Face and all three of his Golden Age imposters.
i love you, you're brilliant, your commentary is scary. You could make serious money in voice work. so could i.
If I had to rank my favourite coin flippers it would be:
1. TAS
2. Telltale
3. Batman Vs. Two Face
4. Dark Knight
5. Justice League Action
I like to think I know my Batman history, but I seriously had no clue there were that many imposter Two-Faces
Are there any non Batman villains you’re planning on covering in this series? Like Parasite, Mysterio, or Toy Many
You know what?
Marvel does likable hero movies with expendable villains, right?? DC could do the opposite of that: Finding its fortune in its villains;
even if I personally will always have Victor Von Doom as my favourite, I must admit that DC has many more interesting villains to display.
Two-face should get more respect. 😀👍
I enjoy seeing two face in the two Arkham games City and Knight.
Hey do you think you can do a bat thumb review it's a parody of batman?
Love it.
Haha awesome idea; I'd love to see a movie where Two-Face puts on a mock trial. And thanks!
Two-time, stay friends, problem that you can't defend...
From what I have heard, Tommy Lee Jones was told to mimic Jack Nicholson's Joker when playing Two-Face, and Jones did what he could. I don't hold it against him, as he wasn't exactly pleased with it either.
I'd love to see Matt Damon as Dent facing Affleck's Batman
Did you know that Damon was considered for the role of Harvey in TDK?
Mr. Rogues you know, now that you mention it, i do remember hearing that, but i thought it was just a rumor!
My favorite adaptation will always be TAS Two Face
Mine too.
Surprised that Two-Face had impostors such as a butler named Wilkins, Paul Sloan, and George Blake.
You could say that Two-Face had a pair of double-dealers.
There are like 4 other versions of Paul Sloan he didn't mention too.
One of the first comics i ever read which was a batman book was Batman annual 14 (eye of the beholder)
I was about 7-8 yrs old
First and finally getting another villain history😁
You know on the thumbnail, from the side it looks like it says “TORY F FACE”, which is how some people in my country would describe our Prime Minister.
Could you do a complete history of catwoman?
i was at a con and Billy Dee Williams spoke about his role as Dent.
