      Tv is the death of originality. Tv shows all turn into staged, scripted, directions from some group of people in an office that don't care about the content, only about money and sponsors.

I’ve been watching your show for a while now and you’re literally telling me exactly what to do. I believe I’ll be going the 5.7L route not unless my wife lets me do the 6.4 (hard to find cheap). Thank you for not doing another boring, no imagination LS swap, jeeps leak enough and don't need to leak more by stuffing chevy garbage in one. I am one of the 3 pedal guys you talked about so Ill try to ignore the automatic Great vids.

  • @aztlanmerlin
    @aztlanmerlin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'm putting the 6.4 in my '12 jk.
    The pentastar was scored, when I bought it. I got an aftermarket warranty for it (best decision of my life) so, it wasn't that bad on my wallet. Third time the engine got rebuilt, they finally found the scoring. The jeep is paid off and sitting in my driveway.

    I would recommend going with the 2.72:1 Sport/Sahara (NP241J) transfer case over the 4:1Rubicon (241OR) transfer case coupled to that 8-speed. The low gear will be too low with the 4:1 and if you're in sand or snow will be difficult to get wheel speed. I love the gearing with the 2.72:1 for off-road with V8 power and torque. I sold my Rubicon TC for $1100 and purchased a low mileage Sport TC (NP241J) for $300. If you're looking at it from a dollar perspective that will help recoup funds. I used the NP241J because I didn't want too low of gearing with over twice the power. Just a suggestion.
    As to your general question, LS all the way. Lighter and smaller overall engine which is more conducive to the Jeeps engine bay. The slight extra weight of the LS is low and center in the chassis vs. the Hemi which is taller and much heavier. Just my opinion.
    Mike

Has excellent power and definitely solves the lack of power problem with my JK that other JK owners complain about .. Just watching the video, so far very interesting. Did notice one little thing, the 545 is actually a 5 speed as well. The 45RFE was the 4 speed. Interestingly enough they 45RFE, 545RFE and 645RFE are pretty much the same transmission just with different software and torque converter. Looking forward to following the rest of it.

    • @calvinm119
      @calvinm119 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      True....but it’s basically the same transmission with a taller OD gear. It’s not robust enough to handle the power/torque of the 6.4. Both the 45RFE and the 545RFE aren’t very good. They were adequate for the first generation 5.7 and were at the threshold for capacity with the upgraded 5.7 Hemi in 2009.

    8 speed works great but if you’re not available to an 8 speed or a Nag, 545RFE is a good transmission. Behind a Cummins it was terrible but there are really good rebuild kits for an RFE to make them stronger. RFEs are also much more rebuild-able. How ever this should be a good video series.

      Most people I know with super chargers never made it past 30-50k miles with it installed.

      @@JKGearandGadgets Well that’s upsetting and disappointing to learn. It makes me wonder if the longevity can be improved by a more conservative boost or if the brand kit used is affecting the long term lifespan. 🤔

      My supercharged 6 was quite annoying. It was great when you had boost. When it would hit overdrive on the Highway it would lose boost at lower rpms, loose speed, downshift get boost, up shift hit overdrive, lose boost, downshift, and repeat indefinitely. That was with 5:38s and 37s

    Can’t wait to see how this turns out! I’m trying to decide between an LS or Hemi swap for my 2020 Gladiator.

    • @JKGearandGadgets
      @JKGearandGadgets  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I wouldn’t even try to LS swap a JL or JT. LS swaps are great for older jeeps and earlier JKs. But with newer canbus systems in the JL, it’s a ton of canbus converters and data swappers.

      @@JKGearandGadgets I was wondering how someone would go about converting the electronics in these newer Jeep’s to work with an LS. Looking forward to watching the Hemi series even more now. Haha Thanks for the tip!

      @sneakypete187 Yeah since Ben replied I’ve done a little more digging into it. And it seems like I would have less potential issues if I kept it a Chrysler product. Happy holidays!

    Given all the Benefits of the 8spd... I have never figured out why someone has not come up with a way to put it behind the 12/17 JK’s ... And at the end of your Video you mention the Speed Shop... Does that include the 3.6 🤔👍

    Awesome video, and very informative thank you! I need to change out my engine was thinking of just doing another 3.6 but.. I may be able to get away with what I have. I have a 2013 jeep jk rubicon 6speed manual. Maybe I can get away with transfer case and transmission for a 5.7 swap?

  • @MicDropBBQ

    Damn I wanna keep my Jeep as a manual and run a 5.7. After watching all of this (and listening very closely to this awesome presentation), I'm looking at just doing a RIPP Supercharger for the 133hp gain. 335hp total for the Ripp addiction or gain another 60hp by doing a Hemi swap.
    Not like I'm gonna be racing anyone. I just want a little more pull going uphill.
    My dilemma: is the 60 extra hp "more" gained by doing a full-blown Hemi swap (versus just adding a Ripp) really worth the hassle?
    I know it'll add more stress on a 3.8L engine, but that's only if you really dog it (I presume). Just hitting highways and keeping up with traffic uphill and on entrance ramps is really all I'm looking for, especially when I go from 35s to 37s (and 5.13 regear).
    I only wanna spend the money once, and I wanna keep it manual. I'm just seeing no support for a Hemi swap and manual transmission setup.

    I know this video is an older one, but damn, my wife's JK with the garbage 3.6 is beginning to give me headaches. Been tempted to LS swap it. But like the idea of keeping it brand.

    Im looking to add a 5.7 hemi into my 2008 JKU, can it be out of any vehicle on the mopar line from those years? . Example I know a guy that has a 5.7 hemi in a 2007 Durango 4x4 with low miles, will the wiring harness and ecu work in this type of application?

    With the reputation of the pentastar put the hemi in the jt since you didn't have to pay retail price for it you can always LS swap the jk cheap!
