There are a ton of engine swap videos on TH-cam, but I think this one is far, and away, the best one I've ever watched. You did a brilliant job of touching on all the bases. I really admire your mechanical ability.
I’m wanting to do a 5.7 hemi swap on my 2010 JK in the next 5 years or so when I move and buy a house. I know your not doing a step by step but if I do end up doing so then I’m glad it’s you making videos like these that’ll help people like me out. Thanks and awesome stuff bro!
Super excited to follow your progress! The two of you rocking it solo is inspiring. Keep up the good work. Also, loved your video on using drop brackets with adjustable arms.

Hey Ben , please don't apologize for the longer videos . You are a wealth of information and I'm sure it will help someone out either doing this swap or going to do this swap . I'm loving yours and Cassie's videos on the two different swaps into two different Jeeps . I have really been considering a LS swap in my 03 TJ and will make a decision soon . Keep up the great work and I'm looking forward to yours and Cassie's next videos. Take care and be safe sir.
Man, This series is so helpful! I'm searching for good deals on JKUs and looking to swap right away. This is helping me find what I would need and save me money by having me buy the right Jeep to start with! Thanks, bro!
20:46 reason why Jeep should have kept the wrangler with manual transmission. THANK YOU! I drive a 2010 Rubicon with a manual. I feel great about my decision.
Loving your and Cassie's V8 swap series. Wish I had the knowledge myself to do the same thing and ditch my 3.8L. Maybe in 5 years I'll be ready. And glad to see your dropping more vids. You channel is always so informative and helpful.
Glad this was you doing the engine removal. These days, replacing the entire vehicle seems like the way to go. 😊 Thanks for the video! Already viewed the later upload, showing you doing dirt donuts with the new power plant. 👍
You make it look easy. Sadly I have hip issues so it looks like I’ll be saving up for years to pay a shop do it. I will say that it is still fun to watch this!
You must be young - last time I pulled an engine myself it was on my '69 dodge Dart 340 - in 1974! ! I think there were a couple of wires, hoses plus a few bolts to the trans and mounts; nothing like that pile of spaghetti you're dealing with -Ha! Oil filter will fit, tightly. (Fram #PH16 or equivalent). That's the same angled filter mount that came on my 5.7 WK. Incredible job you're doing; both the swap and the documentary. Keep Cassie Classy!
Better to use a standard t-case with these bigger engines rather than the Rubicon case. The planetary is actually stronger and you don't really need the lower 4:1 gearing especially with this 8 speed swap.
Not hard to watch at all. Very interesting and informative. You are very Good at delivering the information. I'm very impressed. Also impressed with Cassie. Her channel is awesome too. She is a true wrench. Much respect!
Extra thumbs up for the “I don’t care what you identify as...” comment. Hilarious! What’s Cassie’s channel? Would like to check out the LS swap too! Great channel, Ben!
The thing that holds the radiator is a core support. Those cast exhaust manifolds leave a lot of room for improvement. The cost of an upgrade can put a big dent in you savings account. That 392 looks like its found a home under your hood. Beautiful
I own a TJ so most of the video was not relevant however, i watched the entire thing without fast forwarding :D Gave it a thumbs up. great content and instruction.
Looking good. Just looks like changing oil filter will be a real pain once radiator a trans cooler is installed. Hopefully it not as bad as it appears now.
Header options are pretty limited for JK Hemi swaps. There are custom long tubes if you are willing to pay big $$$. FWIW, a lower cost header options is the 6.1L GC headers will bolt up and should clear the bolt in engine mounts. You can find a used set for $100-$200. Reclock the exhaust flange or cut them off and use vBands.
I used a Holley Terminator kit on my 5.3 swap in the TJ. I can’t say enough about how impressed I am with it. Expensive but its a buy once cry once unlimited tuning option.
When I did a complete rebuild on my moms 99 Jeep Wrangler with the 2.5L automatic, it was cheaper for me to build my own AN fitted lines for the transmission, than buy them new from the dealer since I couldn’t find them anywhere else.
Another way to keep from getting metal shavings from the tap down in there is to put wheel bearing grease on your tap. It will keep the tap lubricated but the metal will stick to the grease
I thought about hemi swapping my 2012 Jk. The cost wasn't the issue...I just couldn't put that much time into it. I ended up settling for an Edelbrock supercharger instead. It definitely isn't a v8, but getting that much power increase from a bolt on also wasn't too bad.
FYI if you want to keep a tapped hole clean while tapping dip your tap in bearing grease and the shavings will stick to the taps flutes, then you just clean the remaining grease and shavings out to the hole.
watching you series here, has kinda made me make my mind up on the swap i want to do for my JKU. love the channel and you do an amazing job with your explanations
Ben you are goals man! Anyone can go out and send it to a shop have it done for them but not only do you do everything yourself you explain and show us what to do and what not to do. Love the contante can’t wait to see it all done.
The next major project i want to do with my 2 door JK, is make it a truck. My friends at Aggressive krawlers in SC put hemis, hellcats, and recently a demon engine in a JT
Love watching these videos on your hemi swap. Slowly been working toward my 5.7 hemi swap into my '77 wagoneer. Going with the 8 speed mated to a sport jk transfer case, will be run off a terminator x Max system. Seeing your progress provides the hope that someday mine will have an engine in the engine compartment again. But for now, work on the axle swap continues
Great vid as always. Still need to catch up on the ls swap now. For future, apply grease to the flutes of the tap to catch the chips and lube the cutters. Be surprised.
Ben Compiling parts for a swap...For the 8 spd transmission...they are three variants based on gear ratio (3.21, 3.55, 3.92) Which one did you get and does it matter? How did you calibrate the speedometer?
It doesn’t matter, as long as it’s the correct year and 4x4 8hp70 then you are good. Speedometer calibration is the same as it was before with the jeep.
Would love to do this in my '98 TJ. The ol' 4 banger doesn't just have that grunt I want. Only thing that I would do different is keep it a manual trans.
@@JKGearandGadgets As much as I love my GM products, a LS swap is too over done imo and feel the Hemi would just be way cooler. But will still check out the channel to see that done.
Really appreciate the detailed explanations you provide. It must take a great deal of patience to quit working to film. I’d be chomping at the bit to just get it done.
I would avoid those exhaust “manifolds” at ALL COSTS, they choke, they get hot and they crack and will thermally expand and snap your bolts. Happened TWICE to my wife’s WK2 grand Cherokee ... I would try the WK2 Grand Cherokee SRT8 manifolds, though they are cast manifolds they have a relatively large exhaust port and larger runners but keep a tucked design that may still clear your motor mounts ... and they didn’t have issues with cracking or breaking the bolts. It may be worth your while to ceramic coat whatever you go with , and perhaps thermally shield your motor mounts ...
I'm excited to try to do my hemi swap as well... but unfortunately I'm going to spend alot of time with the details... I would love to have a 5.7 big cam set up with a very clean wire tuck style harness...
Great progress Ben 2 ideas for you when using the tap next time use grease it lubes the tap and catches the chips in the tap flutes.on the oil filter housing can you reverse the housing on the motor or cut the flange back so you can get to the filter.
