I have 2007 Jeep JKU 3.8L with Ripp (American Racing) Long Tube Headers which are 2.5 inch down pipe into a custom 2.5 inch in to 3 inch out Y pipe with Flowmaster Super 10 pre axle dump. I absolutely love the set up and sounds so good. Your definitely inspired me to do my own HEMI swap. I will be going with the 345 and 8 speed. Gonna change up the exhausted up to a true dual system when its HEMI time. Thank you for such great videos and instructions! I got some pics on my IG if anyone would like to see and hear it lol
In 1989 I did the same thing to a 1976 FJ40...put a 327 in it with a Muncie 4 speed, Curry Ford 9" rear end, upgraded steering box...everything. Took it down to the frame and built it back up myself with the occasional help of an engine buddy. Turned it into a show truck...best money I ever spent because I more or less put myself thru a trade school with everything I learned. How to take things apart and put it all back together again...paid dividends in my business and personal life as well.
Dude, I'm so happy for you! She sounds wonderful. We can hear the joy in your voice several times in the last 2 videos as the project neared completion, and I'm glad you got her up and running.
Step Child might have a it’s hands full Ben! Awesome swap thanks for putting out this content just shows that it can be done on a budget and have fun while achieving new goals.
I’m glad your having better luck with Todd than we are. I’m dealing with an 8speed swap nightmare with his parts and can’t ever get him in the phone. Completely left us in the dark.
The great part of all this is Ben is building the jeep to actually use verses building it to park at a show. I mean, once it's complete we'll all get to see Ben actually out on the trails. Great stuff!
Thanks a TON for posting this series - This is the most detailed walkthrough I have seen to date and I REALLY appreciate the spreadsheet. I've been debating this swap and knowing some options on saving a few $ here and there and your total cost is immensely helpful in planning it all out !
When you said you would sell the Jeep instead of changing a hose I spit my coffee out. Hilarious and congrats on the swap. Very impressive you did it by yourself and at home.
Awesome! Glad it’s complete! When I put an aftermarket trans cooler in my jeep, I left on loose. I filled as much of it as I could. Then connected on the steel lines and tighten. It made it so much easier to feel the pan and not have bubbles. I’m sure that will work with any cooler.
Congrats 🍾 Ben! Now you have the satisfaction of saying I did it myself, and in record time. Also if she acts ⬆️ out on the trail, it’ll be easier to diagnose because you installed it.
That radiator gap is close but it's still easier that a 6.0 or 6.4 power stroke belt change. I find that the extra lines, fluid and hoses that a steering ram adds help keep the system cooler but I still run a little cooler on the return line. Your intake Temp is going to be high with where your air filter is located. I'm not surprised that you're blown away by the power because we all were when Bronco's, Blazer's and Ramcharger's had big V8 power. Then in the mid-70's they started going downhill eventually reaching a point where some 5.7 Chevy's and 5.8 Ford's had 160hp and 8:1 compression. As you might imagine those engines drank gas and felt like you were towing a camper everywhere you went.
Awesome. Looks like all your dash lights are wheel speed sensor related. It would be fun to add up all your non jk parts now for a list. Ford dana 60, gm truck 14 bolt, ram transmission, dodge engine, Cadillac fan etc... lol.
best jeep build channel on YT! love the whole progression! Since I cant justify a hemi swap on my 2020 JT LE w/only 14k miles I am seriously considering adding a Magnusun TVS1900 Supercharger
Pretty nice Ben, for a one person install you didn't really have any substantial problems. And it sounds awesome. Looking forward to seeing more on the 6.4 and Cassie's V-8 finish.
Hey if you’re having an issue with too much blow by with these FCA engines you might wanna look at what jasper does with their engines and uses a diesel style oil ring to reduce blow by. My 3.6 (from jasper) with the right oil that does not shear unlike Pennzoil platinum, has been great and doesn’t burn any oil now at all. . . Also using 5w-30 instead of 5w-20.
i just run an oil catch can on my 3.6l with 5w20 ultra plat penzoil, even in dead -20 degree minnesota winters i dont have much in the catch can? Thats odd, normally 3.6l dont have a ton of blowby, but a catch can is a good idea. Also what oil are you using over penzoil?
Ben all of your videos are great! I have learned a lot and seeing you put a 6.4 in it whoa that’s top notch!!! Can’t wait to see you take it off road!!
He said at the end of the video that he is going to compile all of the info and make a video on it. I am guessing that his build was 10k with his own labor. His engine wasn't cheap though so it might be closer to 15k. Im guessing he spent around 5k on his engine since he said it was sitting since 2015. you can do a completely used 5.7 swap for 10k.
@@Mew-269 super insane deal 10k for the 6.4 with an 8 speed? sign me up lmao! the 392 wrangler is expensive as shit so hemi swapping looks more promising
Keep the long runner intake its the best for a jeep long runners have a lower rpm power band the short runner like the holley is for high rpm richard holdener has videos about the different types/brands on the dyno and he said the factory hemi intake is actually really good
...but that air intake filter location HAS to go; getting air from the exhaust manifold may be why your intake temp was high. How about putting the windshield washer tank over by the rad overflow tank and the air filter where the washer tank was? Fresh air from the left headlight area?
Now you have me thinking I've got a Mishimoto radiator in my JKU. WOnder if it could keep the hemi cool. Have to compare it to the cooler in my '18 Power Wagon with the 6.4L. I was thinking of the 5.7L for the JKU so now I am wondering how much more cooling the 6.4L needs compared to that.
Man please, please, please keep us updated on how well the thing cools. I am trying to decide if I am going hemi or ls for my swap and I keep hearing horror stories about cooling issues.
Super cool Ben, congratulation. I'm totally inpressed with your knowledge and skills.I also noted it really cleaned up very nicely, you really got her detailed up clean and the engine bay.
Nice! Been following this since the beginning. I can't wait for the Hemi swap in the JTR... I want to do a Hemi swap in mine as well. The V6 just isn't enough engine for the Gladiator, IMO...Even though the Rubicon helps with the 4.10 gears and the 4:1 T-case off-roading and I haven't had any issues. I just want more power. And actually, today is my 1st Jeepiversary with my Gladiator Rubicon...I bought it March 7, 2020.
G&G. Where's the engine oil cooler ? Thought you'd have a 2" downpipe on either side of the block, matching to a single 4" tube to the rear muffler ! V.
Your intake is going to be taking in so much super heated air coming off the exhaust manifolds you were going to have a big performance drop off when the engine is hot
Awesome video my man. We love hemi swaps and you weren't kidding that the 6.4 is a tight fit! It sounds pretty tame which I like from a long term cruiser standpoint. What camera and mic setup do you have? It looks and sounds great! Keep it going!
Great Video Ben... You’ve got to be so excited! Going from the 3.8 to the Hemi 👍... I’ve used ZEREX Oat which is Orange... I called their Tech Support, and they said the Dex Cool (Oat) is compatible with the Mopar Antifreeze 🤔
Great series. Question. Do you mind adding the part number for power steering lines. It appears the PS reservoir is relocated to same side as my2011 Burnsville Off-road 6.4 jk conversion. I have a PS pressure hose that is leaking. Thank you
Hey Ben I have a quick question for you. I notice when you turn in and out of your driveway or off a curb, the jeep creeks. Mine does the same thing and it drives me crazy. What fuel door are you using on the jku
@@PBFREAK01 it’s the mopar brand fuel door. I bought it used, new is very expensive.
Can you tell me exactly which radiator you used for the Hemi Swap? The parts list only mentions the Jeep Speed Shop radiator.
The best part is that you get to say i did the swap myself ,not that many people can say that👍 great job as always 👍
@Ida hoe There's nothing wrong with not doing it yourself, it just makes you feel better in a way knowing you did it yourself. If that makes sense.
“Intake temp is a little high”
Has intake in the back of the engine next to exhaust lol
There isn’t a cost effective way to move it. $1500 for an intake manifold for it to be on the other side.
YES!!! Congrats, Ben! You're a huge inspiration for us garage guys around the country
"Oh yeah baby, you stuck that in so good." Ok Ben......
😂
I would pay this dude to swap my engine😭 best videos I’ve seen so far.

Congratulations man you’ve created a monster haha it looks amazing and sounds insane, can’t wait to see it on the trails

When will the LS wiring video be uploaded?

From the gutless wonder of the 3.8 to a 6.4 is definitely a big improvement. That’s like 300ish HP increase.
