  • In this video I take a look at a couple of new coffee press options, comparing them against some other, more traditional options. The line-up is:
A basic brushed steel coffee press
The Hario Olive Wood tea press
    The Timemore U coffee press
The Espro P5 Double Filter coffee press
    The Fellow Clara coffee press
These range in price from around £20 to £130 and I take a look at the heat retention during brewing, the amount of sediment left in the cup and how good the coffee tastes.

I was going to buy the Clara just for the looks, but this convinced me that I'm getting a better quality press too. Thanks.

Thanks. It’s a great piece of kit to be honest. Still using it and still happy with it.

Just out of interest, Gareth, what are your thoughts on James Hoffman's French Press method of not plunging, and instead just using the strainer as a filter for getting a sediment free cup of coffee?

Christopher I hadn’t actually watched that video ☺️ I know James and tend to avoid watching his stuff for fear of being tainted by his suggestions. What he says makes sense as it’s the same process we use when tasting coffee out of bowls: we let the grounds settle at the bottom. I’ve never been that bothered by the sediment and just leave the last splash of coffee in the cup at the end. I tend to use the coffee press or cafetiere as my quick, easy brew routine often when I’m camping in my van! Therefore I’m not gonna wait an extra 5 minutes!

@@carvetiicoffee Interesting! Also, I've gone and your three bag 'Filter Selection' from your site. I'm really looking forward to trying your coffee! 🙂

Thanks for the order. There’s a nice range in the current selection. The Brazil is easy, nutty, very drinkable while the Rwandan is interesting with the 94hr fermentation. The Guatemala sits comfortably between the two. A selection to suit all your coffee drinking moods 😉

@@carvetiicoffee Yeah, I'm really interested in trying the Rwandan out, with that 94 hour fermentation 🙂

Just brewed a French Press with the Rwandan. What fantastic coffee! Full of boozy fruit flavour, exactly as you describe it. What an absolute gem! Lovely packaging and box as well! I'm impressed 🙂

I just bought the Timemore for 16€ so I guess that's a good deal

Not a bad deal. All these months on and I don't regret buying that coffee press. I've used it a lot more than any other coffee press I've bought - mostly I just tire of them and they end up gathering dust in the cupboard!
