Here’s a game: Take a shot of espresso every time I say “French Press.” Good luck. ALSO - use code “KYLE10” at fellow for 10% off anything including the Clara. So then it’s a $90 French press 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

I add a paper filter (the cheap ones made for coffee machines) to my cheap french press and it does a really good job filtering all the fines. Makes the seal around the plunger tighter while adding a layer of filtration. Boom Immersion/filter coffee hybrid!

@@hatem0or get a good grinder and that'll never happen again. The problem with the grinders is that the cheap ones don't grind them evenly and so you'll end up with dregs.

I like this analogy. I’d even go so far as to say there products are always very good. Paying the premium gets you a very good experience with products that look good and look good together. Can you find something better? Maybe. Can you find something as good for less money? Probably. But if you’re comfortable spending the money, you can be confident that you are going to enjoy it.

    • @benbauer7866

Yeah much of the appeal comes in the build quality and polished experience. All their products are good even though very few of them are actually good value.

I actually disagree that what they do is that high quality. Most of their products are marginal improvements over competitors with look and feel improvements; love or hate apple, they really change the game with their tech.

Just bought Chemex and it's too much doing for a limited hotish cup of coffee and the 2nd cup is blehhh. Gotta find something else. Been looking at the French Presses. Still concerned that I can't get a cup hot enough. (My Cuisinart hit the bucket and even then I put in microwave for 1.20 seconds to keep hot enough in my porceline 10 oz mug. I'm thinking the Clara might be a good choice just to get a decent cup of hot coffe with great taste. I want to start grinding good organic coffees. Do you think the Clara if not keeping hot enough would be ok to put in the microwave to reheat. The Chemex I bought was a no go. Geez...all too complicated. Can't afford a Breville or? I think even compared to the Bodin brand, which is not cheap tho but cheaper than fellow, it won’t makes any difference, BUT they hit it good with this. I know myself as a coffe enthusiast i always wanna go for the best looking and best quality equipment as long as i can afford it. And Fellow is typically a brand for coffee enthusiasts in compare to Bodum or IKEA, and 100 dollars on the coffee “professional” equipment world isn’t that much. I have my Bodum, i am happy with i won’t change until i break the glass again lol But i might go for it if i had to change, French press is a very good tool as brewing method after diner with friends or family for exemple, i typically use it for that, if i had to make 5 expressos with my Flair it will take ages, the preparation for the french press at the end of a dinner is perfect, fast and just let it sit at the table for 5min while talking to each other, and the double wall is great for a french press because after you have served people you usually end with coffee left in the french press which is to cold to drink after 5/10min… so perfect for it !

I've got a $100+ French press, an ESPRO P7 (dual wall, stainless steel, dual filter), which I love: there's hardly any silt in the cup, and I just have to press down gently, no need to watch out for hitting the coffee bed, so it's very easy.
But looking at the Clara, that single filter would have to be a *lot* better to be worth it, and that seems doubtful to me?

I dunno, those little coffee bean particles that I drink coming from a cheap french press doesn't really bother me and it adds a bit of texture to the coffee. The flavor stays the same if you brewed it correctly and you can just grind less finer coffee beans which solves the filtering issue. Most of the times the search for perfection leads you to a very unhappy life.

I've had over a dozen french presses over the years, and I STILL think that most of these newfangled "reinvent the wheel" french presses are mostly hype. A classic stainless steel doubled walled French Press from Secura/Bayka/Coffee Gator/Mueller where you double up on the filters (2 instead of 1) are THE best value for french presses bar non. $25 and they will make EVERY BIT as good offee as the Fellow. I tried the fellow press and laughed myself silly that they were charging $100 for this. I could see $60 tops for it with the aesthetic, but $100 is just plain pants on head ret@rded.
I use a french press every single day (I'm European, we HAVE to use a french press or we'd lose our status as European) and have tried $10 ones, and $100 ones (including the stag)...I will always go back to a sstainless steel french press and buy extras filters so I can double up on them (which also insures a tight fit against the carafe walls) and focus on beans and technique

Nice video, appreciated the quality and brevity as well as honestly about the sponsor / promotional press.
I am considering a press for personal 1-3 times a week use as primarily a tea drinker that wants to improve my coffee options over nescafe instant (which i know coffee people turn their nose to instants i also drink with cream and sugar so it’s been ok for me)
all that being said i will watch out for double walled glass, as temperature even for my tea right from the boiled kettle is something that matters to me and clearly there is a big drop off there to single glass.
the next thing is a grinder but i may justify that later anyways for spices etc. If you have a good value suggestion or best way to make 500ml coffee at a time i would definitely check it out. (commenters or otherwise) congrats belatedly on the child, as a fellow father.

Clara. Somehow having to put cold coffee in the microwave seems counterproductive. I want two cups of coffee in the morning and am guilt ridden over using K cups!

Wahhh....I just want 2--10 oz cups of premium freshly ground coffee . The first 10 oz cup after brew and then another maybe 30 minutes later and HOT. Do I need to make 2 pots??? New to this.

I would never leave coffee in a French Press, whether it's insulated or not. Who wants coffee that's been steeping in coffee grounds for 2 hours. That is why I own an insulated carafe.

Black cat or white cat, they all do the same job. My French Press is only a CAD18 basic Bodum. It makes perfectly "sweet" black coffee. I think the only difference is the person behind it.

@@KyleRowsell yah, I wasn’t really coming looking to be convinced because of my preconceived notions. However, you know I’m here for the like, comment and full watch time. 😉. This thing is a beauty but that’s a simply absurd price for marginal increases, and to me… brewing a one cup French press, I’m ok with the cooling down. 🤷🏼‍♂️.

I feel like sprometheus had already summed this up pretty nicely, not much added here.
I feel like you could try and modify a cheap French press (aeropress papers, v60 cut outs) test the results and compare it to the fello. Seeing the same video twice isn't much fun. Sorry kyle

  • @HellGatefr2

Answer is : both are trash.
You don't need plastic in a french press, brands like Pylano have french presses made 100% from glass and stainless steel, and for pretty cheap too.
Always pre-heat the french press also.
