Hallo sir! This one looks like a simple and relaxing video tutorial.. but it's not so simple. the more that I watch this video again, the more impressed I feel about the incredible number of ingenious wood shaping tips and hints you give! Using soft sandpaper backing for shaping is a great technique and works amazingly well. Thanks for sharing this great video, sir! You're clever!
That's really cool. I've seen this done in a lot more complicated manner so watching the outcome you accomplished with just a grinder and sanding is really fantastic
You’re a true artist! Do you do this for a living? Love your work ! I do this for a living and I love it . But you’ve inspired me to try some new things! Thank you again! You deserve millions of subscribers. I’m gonna subscribe now 😊
Thanks for checking it out and for the subscription! And you're right! There's definitely a lot that can be done with this. So far the limiting factor I've seen is your imagination and practice to get the hang of how the different wheels work! In a week or two I'm going to post a review of all the different tools I've tried and how they work, and different budget options as well.
Watched until the end, I subscribed because of your ethos towards contributing rather than consuming media, really struck a chord. Great work and you seem like a genuine and pleasant chap.
That is BADASS ! Love this ! Thank you for sharing! I want to do more cool designs myself. I make a hewn look . It’s hard on my hands / wrists . Looking for more cool angle grinder attachments. Lucky guy ya sent that to ! I’m jealous! I want one 😊
You should! It's definitely a lot of fun. In a week or two I'm going to be doing a recap of all the tools I've tried and what they're good for, what I've liked and didn't like, and some budget options for getting into it without spending a whole bunch of money.
Nice work. My first thought though, was that the stock seemed a bit thick. Could’ve made two lids out of that. I’m stealing the ladder trick! Keep creating!
I use a workmate to hold my stuff when I carve and it is just a bot low for me and it ends up making my back ache. Using a ladder.. clever. Thanks for the video, great work!
I thought about a workmate but no one sells them locally. But now that you mention it I do recall them being pretty short! The ladder has worked out ok so far. I may end up experimenting with other things or may build something custom in the future.
Boluwaji Omisore On the one in the video it was probably about 3/8" to 1/2". For the top on the actual box it was a bit deeper - probably 5/8" to 3/4" or so.
+Boluwaji Omisore I didn't send it back. After trying it out a little more I decided to hold on to it. One thing I would say though is if your main goal is dust collection, you might be disappointed. The dust collection hood works very well, but for me it gets in the way so I don't use it. Ironically the pad I tore up in this video has come in handy which you can see in a video I'll post this evening probably, of a power carved dough bowl/trench bowl. I'll talk a little bit about how that came in handy. Also in a week or two I'm going to post a review off all the different wheels and tools I've been experimenting with, how they work, what I thought of them, etc. The RAS has been helpful now that I've gotten to know it. I like that it doesn't burn the wood when I sand unlike grinders which tend to burn the wood when sanding. I think it's a speed thing though - a variable speed grinder that you can turn all the way down might do the same thing. I don't know though - don't have one yet.
Brad it's great to have you back! I've been looking forward to his video for a while. I really need to give this a try :) First I need a grinder, then some sweet wood.
Thanks, Shayne! It really is a lot of fun. The cool thing is you can get a grinder pretty cheap. My first grinder was a $30 ryobi and it's still going strong at a friends house. And they're handy to have around anyway. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the comment and good luck on your projects! Making stuff yourself is really rewarding in the end. Just gotta learn as you go and push through the challenges.
Liked your video and your use of the ladder. Very well done. Nice to see your list of tools and products used. I would really like to talk to you on how your doing the voice over your videos. I want to add this to some of my videos.
Thanks brother! Glad I could provide any inspiration at all. Thanks for checking it out! If you make some stuff, share with me on Instagram! Id love to see it.
Great work! I've watched a couple of your videos now. Just a quick note though, those soft pads are mainly made for flat work, not really carving. So that's why they're wearing out faster.
Indeed - running their sides against a sharp corner wasn’t really fair haha. I realized that a bit later - that I wasn’t being realistic. They actually still to great for non flat stuff - just have to not run the side up against a sharp edge like I did.
@@BradleyMakesThings Now just to be clear, I'm saying they're not made for that. But I'm not saying don't use them that way! A tool is a tool. And you got to use whatever you have to get the job done. And if you have to buy another one for the next job, well so be it! You can always use that for something else later. I abuse tools all the time, as long as it works. Great Channel keep up the good work.
With the power carving is it actually hard to do or you got to have a little bit of patience dealing with it because I'm starting out myself and I just love how the way that looks I just ordered mines last week and it should be here by Tuesday or Wednesday any tips
Hey Carter! Just wandered upon ya' Buddy! Liked & Subbed. I enjoyed the Vid! I'm looking forward to checking out ALL Your videos! Have A Super Week!..... Gus
Carter, some great ideas there, thanks for posting. Presumably you use a face mask for the rest of your work. If not I’m worried for you, even working outside.
Hi there! After this project I did actually get an ArborTech TurboPlane wheel. You can see it in action in my trench bowl video, and I've also done a comparison video between a number of cutting/carving wheels. The trench bowl video is here: th-cam.com/video/C_2Aspld7Zw/w-d-xo.html The playlist for my comparison videos for different power carving options are here: th-cam.com/play/PLCy_wVqE0JmpZYJigH8MqAjrdkDO68ny6.html
Just finished watching all your videos and enjoyed them all, the sign making was a good 3 parter enjoyed that, and this last one the power carving that was great and love the box as well, well done and congratulations to you both on your wedding. As I said I have enjoyed your videos, I don't do videos as I watch all the people I subscribe to here on TH-cam, to get some ideas and inspiration. I just do home DIY and make Planters for our fruit growing that we do, so I have subscribed now to your channel and hope for some more inspirational videos and ideas, do you do any PDF Plans? it would be useful to me.I would love a sticker if you post to England, could you let me know and I'll send you my address. Take Care, Barry (from England)
Hi Barry! Thanks for checking it all my videos and for the subscription. As for PDF plans, I don't really have any to speak of, but if there's a certain project of mine you'd like plans for I may be able to put something together for you. For a sticker, email me your address and I'd be happy to shoot one out to you. Bradleyboggs(at)gmail.com. Thanks!
You are a passionate and a nice guy. I can see why your wife loves you. I like the ladder idea as I spots for working like this. Where did you get your grinder?
Hey Jack, did you get your question answered about what grinder he is using? He does have the *King Arthur Tools Holey Galahad Disc - Medium Coarseness - Flat Profile but as far as the angle grinder I didn't find anything in the list for name brand on that. He did mention a Dewalt grinder. From using both I myself prefer the Makita angle grinder with a paddle switch. Why? Because when you let off the paddle switch it turns it off and this can come in handy if the grinder kicks back on you and comes out of your hand. Here it is on Amazon.com:Makita 9557PB 4-1/2-Inch Angle Grinder with Paddle Switch
Jack Lancaster as Billy mentioned, The disc is a King Arthur's Holey Galahad - flat profile - medium grit/courseness. The grinder is a dewalt with the trigger switch at the back (sometimes called a rat tail grinder). As billy mentioned, grinders with paddle/trigger switches are generally safer. They aren't my personal favorite for everything but a lot of folks love them. For me in this video, O was using the trigger lock which negates the safety provided by a paddle/trigger design.
Jack Lancaster I saw your other comment wanting a list - you can find that here: carterwilsonworkshop.weebly.com/blog/power-carving-tool-review Also, I have a few videos covering the different attachments and grinders/tools I've tried so far.
There isn’t actually - there’s a leg under the board that sticks out and has solid footing on the ground. A normal sized person could sit or stand on that board and it wouldn’t budge.
+Rick Reynolds I didn't. But I actually really ended up liking the solid feel of it after. That said, I want to try planing some stock down and trying it on some chunks that aren't quite as thick.
Hallo sir! This one looks like a simple and relaxing video tutorial.. but it's not so simple. the more that I watch this video again, the more impressed I feel about the incredible number of ingenious wood shaping tips and hints you give!
Using soft sandpaper backing for shaping is a great technique and works amazingly well.

Gorgeous walnut and an outstanding job. Thanks for sharing. I liked and subscribed.
That's really cool. I've seen this done in a lot more complicated manner so watching the outcome you accomplished with just a grinder and sanding is really fantastic
I'm glad! Thanks for checking it out. It really is a lot of fun and I think a lot can be done with this technique.

Beautiful work. I'm amazed at how different people accomplish art with very different tools.
Nice one man!! Totally diggin the finished wine box, the patterns and possibilities are endless!! Subscribed!!

My first Adventure was building guitars, I bought one of these power carving sets. It blows my mind how awesome they are
Ladder clamp! I dig it.. so easy
Very helpful. I’m just starting out and I appreciate your harbor freight review. Not abundant in money so it helps me get started 👍👍👍🥰😎
Watched until the end, I subscribed because of your ethos towards contributing rather than consuming media, really struck a chord. Great work and you seem like a genuine and pleasant chap.
really like how you show exactly what you're using and problems with the tools you run into, super helpful for us!
That is BADASS ! Love this ! Thank you for sharing! I want to do more cool designs myself. I make a hewn look . It’s hard on my hands / wrists . Looking for more cool angle grinder attachments. Lucky guy ya sent that to ! I’m jealous! I want one 😊
You got me wanting to buy an angel grinder and trying this out!! Love the piece!
Hah - you should! Even if it's just the harbor freight stuff to get you started - it's a lot of fun!
First time to your channel and boy what a joy! Never seen anything like this in carving, absolutely beautiful!
Great work! Need to put this on my to do list.

Great use of the ladder, fab piece of work too
Nice job !!! Congrat's !!!!
Nicely done. Something I need to try now that you've demonstrated. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Matthew! You should definitely have a go of it. Can yield some neat results.
Really cool job. This is the first I've heard of power carving. I spend a lot of time with steel but never tried a grinder on wood.
Just subscribed after binge watching four of your uploads. Really interesting guy and fab projects. congrats from me in the United Kingdom.
Been wantng to try power carving for a while. Thanks for all the info. Very helpful. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again.
Sounds good! Have fun!
Nice work.
My first thought though, was that the stock seemed a bit thick. Could’ve made two lids out of that.
I’m stealing the ladder trick! Keep creating!
Love the organic design, will try to put that on a ring box with a Dremel.
Great job!!! I love this, super inspiring!

+David Kmen Thank you, David!
damn that turned out amazing
Great work. thanks for showing your techniques.
Thanks man! Digging your work on IG as well! All a learning experience, that's for sure.
when you did the initial scoring cut how deep did you go?
Boluwaji Omisore On the one in the video it was probably about 3/8" to 1/2". For the top on the actual box it was a bit deeper - probably 5/8" to 3/4" or so.
+Carter Wilson Workshop Did you send back the RAS115. I have been considering buying one.

Very cool!
That was cool great job love the box that is sharp

great video bud
I’m just starting to get into wood carvings. I was just wondering how much you spent on the vestal sander and sanding discs??

I noticed there is a lot of flex the way you have it clamped to the ladder. Is this a help or hindrance ???
There isn’t actually - there’s a leg under the board that sticks out and has solid footing on the ground. A normal sized person could sit or stand on that board and it wouldn’t budge.
Eye protection my friend, eye protection.
What is the paint You use for brown color?
The Wood is walnut which is naturally brown. The only finish I applied is a clear mineral oil.
Nice!!
Thanks, Rick!
NP. Did you hollow out the pice for the box lid?
+Rick Reynolds I didn't. But I actually really ended up liking the solid feel of it after. That said, I want to try planing some stock down and trying it on some chunks that aren't quite as thick.
