    Good point of talking about the heat of this device when discharging to netbooks I heard it over heat up a lot and some cases only gives certain percentages of Charging to some laptops not fully charged
    Anyway I got one to use with Dell E 6440 i hope not being disappointed

    This video is almost five years old now. Is there a better option for Precision 5520 now? I would like to not need to power it off to use the power bank.

    thank you for the awesome review! when you tested the charge from 0~70% was that with laptop off or while it's on?

      idk why but I'm only getting about 54% while it's off :(

      it may be down to some variation in the units that dell produces, i may have just gotten a 'lucky' one or the conditions that i am using it are better for it. i know when it gets hot i expect to see closer to 50 and 60% than when it is really cold

    Hi... thank you for the nice video. I would like to know if this Power companion is compatible to the old Laptop like Inspiron 1545 and 1525. and if yes, how do get that connected as it has a 7.4mm connector and this power companion has a 4.5mm connector.

    • @CPUmodder
      @CPUmodder  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, there may be a chance using adapters though the laptop is not on dells supported device list, accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&sku=451-BBMV
      if it does work you should be able to find 4.5mm to 7.4mm adapters or wire your own

    If you use this as a pass thru does it replace your power brick or do you plug it in as if the companion was your laptop?

    • @CPUmodder
      @CPUmodder  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it does not replace the power brick as it sits between the power brick and the laptop when connected, i wish it did as it would make for a really simple power solution

    I got my xps 15 bundled with the 18k mAh model and it's been a jem. I can run for days with my phone hooked up to it

    • @xZen0sx
      @xZen0sx 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      how much % are you getting from the battery? I charged while laptop was off and I got about 54% :/

    • @Studio-7V
      @Studio-7V 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Zen0s Always expect no more than 2/3 of your external battery's capacity to actually be used. It has to do with up/down conversion of voltage when the power travels to your laptop.

    • @xZen0sx
      @xZen0sx 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +7Valletta so my battery isn't defective? I was expecting 70% like it was shown on video:(

    • @Studio-7V
      @Studio-7V 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Zen0s Batteries degrade over time too, if you use yours a lot I wouldn't be surprised. Generally good portable batteries last a bit under the usual laptop battery lifespan of about 2 years. You can always get a 20k+ mAh battery from Anker or something

    How many times can I change laptop with power bank

    • @CPUmodder
      @CPUmodder  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the model and the size of the battery, if the battery is smaller than the battery bank then you will get more than a full charge but if it is bigger then you will get less than a full charge

  • @timothylinn

    One of the features built into Windows is that it adjusts the balance between power efficiency and processing power depending on whether or not the laptop is running off of AC power or battery. This creates an issue with external batteries. Windows should see them as AC power. As a result, it will actually run down your battery faster unless you manually change the power profile. Did you change the power profile when determining the additional battery life you get from this unit?

    • @CPUmodder

      i had the device on power save the entire time for all the tests

      I have the Inspiron 5758, the 17 inch 5000 series. Mine is the model before the graphics card was added, so it's a little older.

    Don't buy this one. Buy an USB-C PD (power delivery spec) powerbank. Dell won't replace the proprietary connector. Mine broke just after two years out of warranty.

    hi, i have an asus ux303ub, i want to buy the power companion, if i have the adapter for my laptop, this battery will work with no problem?, have you tested in other notebooks?
    Regards!

    • @CPUmodder
      @CPUmodder  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i would say as long as the connector fits it will work, but keep in mind that there are many other universal power banks that will deliver the same or more capacity for the same or less price

      CPU modder can you recommend me one?

    • @CPUmodder
      @CPUmodder  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      this one from Intocircuit 15000 is of good vale, it comes in at about $40 where as the dell one comes in at arround $120 and is only about 3000 mah less. i'd also take a look on amazon as there are also many other with larger capacity and better values www.amazon.com/dp/B00OSYLXKU/ref=psdc_7073960011_t1_B00BB5GR0A

    I can't recommend this device if your laptop comes with anything above a 65w charger.
    I own a Dell Vostro 7590 with an i7-9750H and a GTX 1650 which comes with a 130w power adapter. The laptop needs to be powered off completely before plugging in the power bank in order to charge and use the laptop at the same time. I could NOT consistently plug in the power companion 18000 and get it to charge my laptop while the laptop was running as the battery bank went immediately into overload mode and turned off. My laptop was at idle when I tried plugging it in (3w-4w power consumption) and I disable my graphics card and always keep my laptop in battery saving mode.
    If you do turn the laptop off and plug in the power bank afterwards, it works okay. I'm getting a charge rate of 40w when charging which is about what my laptop charger delivers. I'd definitely would recommend installing Battery Bar so you can monitor the charge rate as the battery bank can be intermittent at times turning on and off while delivering 5w charging rates.
    As he mentioned in the review, this device gets extremely hot to the touch when charging. If your laptop doesn't have a dedicated/discrete graphics card and runs solely off the integrated graphics and a dual or quad core cpu, this power bank will likely work fine as well as you have the barrel plug port for it.

    Too expensive
    For as much as they cost you can buy a 50,000mah battery bank for laptops from amazon
