Heroes is another series that is best enjoyed for one season. But thanks for the video - I already have an Aura X2 SSD, and now maybe I'll be brave enough to replace the battery.
The battery replacement is so frustrating, the glue or adhesive that they use is so freaking tough to get off. Also i found out that you could get a M.2 SSD and also an adapter which costs a fraction than aura pro (M.2 ssd + adapter = 120£ for 1tb, aura 1tb=£250)
I agree with you Jay ---- that adhesive is irritating. I more or less malformed the old battery removing it for the laptop and got lucky that I didn't puncture it in the process. No doubt there are less expensive options for SSD than the OWC brand. I've had good luck with their products in the past and thought I'd bank on their quality as a paid premium. So far, so good, but yes I can appreciate that there are excellent options for less money. If you have a link to share here in the comments for folks comparing prices on SSDs, it is very welcomed.
Congratulations on the video! Amazingly done and explained. I will upgrade my Macbook Pro Retina 13" mid-2014 (256 GB) with new Aura Pro X2 (1TB) and your video will be my guide. Regarding the "after" installation the new SSD... I have a question, maybe you had to do it, I don't know. My Mac runs Mac OS High Sierra, 10.13.6, I have made a Catalina USB bootable already. When I turn my Mac again to boot from the USB, should I update something before? Like any EFI firmware update? Many thanks once more!!!
Thanks for the feedback, Guilherme. Glad the video has been useful. I am on macOS 10.14.6 Mojave, so I can't confirm a need for a EFI firmware update going into Catalina. This article may help answer your question: eclecticlight.co/2019/10/08/which-efi-firmware-should-your-mac-be-using-version-4/ Personally I do not trust Catalina to work well with my audio and video software requirements, so I am sticking with Mojave.
Have you tested the speed of the SSD? I’m concerned that the PCIE Gen2 x4 connection is only capable of 1500MB/s read write speeds including overheads. Making other SSD offerings more viable from a cost vs performance perspective.
I downloaded AJA System Test Lite from the Mac App Store after seeing your question. My read/write speeds topped out at 1295/1499 after multiple tests. I got similar results using Blackmagicdesign's app, too.
@@jbry8372 Hey guys, according to another youtuber that also did the switch to OWC Aura on his same MBP 13", he also confirms testing lower than full capacity of Aura, but nevertheless gained somewhat substantial speed (around 22%...). According to him: "...Apple CPUs doesn't perform well with non Apple-calibrated HD..." and that would explain the reason why most of the Aura's potential is wasted...... But he also claimed that doing the switch AND performing the thermal paste job, the end result is about 33% more speed overall. So, still pretty good upgrade when both jobs are done. He didn't have the USB boot disk drive, so he struggled... But his infos are instructive. By the way, Thank you Thoughtful Clips for you video! It helped me to get more prepared for the job. I have the OWC box in front of me with the 1TB kit for my MBP 13" Build 12,1..... still have to figure out how to make that bootable drive... You had Mojave on your system PRIOR to switching HD, right?
Just replaced the Miady battery in December '22. Held up better than expected for over two years. Last month of use was only holding less than an hour charge, so it had to be replaced. It's no longer sold on Amazon, so I opted for the OWC NuPower battery this time around.

Going to upgrade my 2013 15” right now lol. 😊
I like the scrolling webpage effects. It's got a kinetic feel to it.
I figured that was a quick way to show the information; folks can pause the video if a longer look is needed.
Had to do it.... This old Mac had to get some TLC to keep making videos. But this is a cautionary tale, so beware.....

Thoughtful Clips many many thanks once more. I will give a look into the link! All the best and I wish you all success with the channel!👍🏻👊🏻
Be sure to disconnect your battery anytime you do any sort of cleaning, maintenance and upgrades, one short and you're done for.
Great point, Matthew. Always disconnect power before diving in! Thank you.

Thanks for that. So not using the full capacity of the Aura Pro X2

Any updates how that battery held up? Thanks!
