    Totally agree about the compact toilet in the main head it's a real pisser. Cleaning the head is a difficult job. We replaced the compact toilet with a larger "comfort" bowel instead of "compact". Seemed to resolve most issues but still not enough room for shoulders. When at Annapolis Sailboat Boat 2023 be sure to try the master toilet before you buy.🤣🤣🤣

    The Neel 47 is an interesting model and the one that seems to attract the most attention from the company, probably due to its price for the features and size offered. If I were to consider acquiring a Neel I'd look for a 51, which has interior access to all the hulls and a head right beside the master cabin on the bridge-deck. Exceptional layout not found in any cat under roughly 65ft. The newer Neel 52 replacement model has undergone controversial changes to this layout.
    Neel has taken long strides in improving its model line in recent years. Performance while not breakneck is more than acceptable for the sheer amount of living space it provides the owner. If I were to boil it down, that's the main advantage to Neel trimarans. Even the smaller 43 is far from cramped on the bridge-deck and reasonably priced. Won best multi-hull of the year for 2023. Great episode as usual and looking forward to the Outremer 52. That is a fantastic cat but not cheap!

    The Neels are pretty amazing. The only thing about them, which I have reservations, is the fact that the Amas are so very close to the main hull. If they were even 70cm further out on each side, they would be even more stable than they already are.

    Great to see you in Europe and only gutted now that you were going to Cannes Boat Show and I would have been there but for work commitments. C'est la vie as the host nation would say. Excited to see you onboard the Neel 47 and just re-watched your original day trip. So, having now stayed onboard a Neel 47, how did you find life living in the amas? Fascinated as the Neel 47 ticks so many boxes as a live aboard for a couple at a great price point (2nd hand!) but we have always had a reservation about having extra crew or family onboard and how their quality of life would be. So as "crew" on your latest trip how was it and what were the weather conditions? Looking forward to answer plus your next upload. Enjoy La belle France. 🙂

    • @TheOKellys
      @TheOKellys  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The compromises from a cat, for us, is too much. The amas are livable, but in a cross sea or rolly anchorage, it was not a good feel. The living space is immense and comfortable, and we really like the deck level master cabin. Sail handling we like, the ride (from our limited experience) is lively but not necessarily more or less comfortable. So we think it is a pretty cool boat, but not right for us.

    • @peterbrown2336
      @peterbrown2336 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheOKellysNick, really appreciate the quick response and candour. This was almost exactly our thoughts without access to the vessel and can imagine it would be pretty spirited place to be in a storm plus there is the concern of getting out of the ama and to main saloon too at night in bad conditions. Only wish pockets were deep enough to buy the Neel 51!!! Again thanks for super fast feedback. Hope you are enjoying France and something to your liking can be found on the yacht market here in Europe. Fingers crossed for you. Fair winds.

    Wow, Iceland to the French Mediterranean. What a fantastic, biomes-apart trip!
    Learning French isn't necessarily too difficult for English speakers, considering about 40% of modern English is actually French, thanks to William the Conqueror. Between 1066 and 1087, he replaced almost every English baron, head of state and religious leader with a Norman. Such a beautiful language. The trick (and the hard part) is to roll one word into the next, a trait that the language is especially adept at. A big item on my bucket list is to see the Bayeux Tapestry. Bon chance avec finding un bateau, mon amis! (Yeah, no...I can't actually speak French. Yet!)
    Thanks guys

      The Bayeux is totally impressive. Parking in the town was easy back in 1999. The thing that seems whacko about French is all those wasted letters that they tack on the end of almost every other word. They make good boats and know how to sail them.

    I appreciate your videos and follow along for quite a few years now (although not commenting). I really hope you'll find your boat, soon. I also admire how you deal with the situation, so many positive attitudes and also honesty, that you share. Amazing!
    My question though: Knowing what you've experienced since selling Clarity, would you still sell her and go for the performance cat, that you adore? You still think it's worth it?

    • @TheOKellys
      @TheOKellys  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Had we known that the next boat was not a done deal yet, we would not have sold Clarity when we did. However, we don't regret the decision. Cruising (and growing older) teaches that we can't control the wind...we can only adjust our sails. So if that is the case, and it absolutely is reality for all of us at every moment....it would be insane not to enjoy the many many many wonders and pleasures in whatever situation we find ourselves in. From this perspective, had we kept Clarity we would have missed out on so many wonderful experiences and new friends, and that would be really sad to think. The next boat will be along soon and it will be a grand adventure. If not, then great...we will do other cool things.

Nick - I feel like maybe you weren’t in the mood for iceland. We did Iceland pretty cheap last summer. Used some Marriott points for the hotel by the airport on the front end and back end. Car rental was decent - had a coupon code. Since there was 4 of us we spent most nights in an Airbnb that was just under $300 a night during their busiest travel week of the year. It was huge and in Selfoss - which was a great jumping off point. The owner even gave me a knitted hat she made. The beauty there when you really explore - just no comparison.

    Boy, can you tell how tired Nick is, especially after that hot bath. Icelandic airlines has good deals for easy stop overs enroute to Europe. Consider how high the standard of living is for such a remote harsh environment. It's been settled for hundreds of years. Or you can save the $ and spend it in France flying direct.

    Do you think that the people who get mad if you call "Pain au Chocolate" a "chocolate 'crussant'" would get upset if you call it the "'can' boat show" rather than the "Cannes Yachting Festival?"

    Iceland has one of the poorest hotel water quality of any country I have ever been to. Bathe with bottled water. Not much to do after a day of bar hopping for many. Similar to visiting the Grand Canyon without taking a crash course in Geology first. Rocks remain rocks.
    Last week I watched another channel use a brand new "code' sail incorrectly. Had to take it down in less than two hours before it was completely ruined. The life expectancy of a "code" sail on a rental can be measured in minutes.

      We've answered this question quite a few times, but I'll give it another go. First of all, we make the best decisions we can with the info we've got at the time, so regret is not the right way to treat one's self...it's pointless. Second, we've had incredible experiences and met incredible people in the time since selling, and that wouldn't have happened the same way had we kept Clarity. And lastly, the right thing will happen...it always does...if that is an awesome boat....then great. If that is something else...then great! Simply being alive is a privilege...and that isn't some sort of woo-woo peptalk. It's the truth. Heard it told by a new friend we met recently here in France. His brother was in an accident and had a long recovery. He has a new perspective on life....anytime someone gripes about something, he says..."any day you can get to the bathroom unassisted is a good day." Sooooooo.......regret selling Clarity...mistake selling Clarity....uhhhhhh......sure...if you want to look at it that way, probably should have had a more solid deal on the next boat first...but are we spending time thinking about how we really went wrong in life with that decision? LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      @@TheOKellys I get your point.... 😄 And thats the right attitude.
      But I really think we as homo sapiens, always looks for greener grass on the other side, instead of enjoying our current lawn.
      I'm not trying to prove myself better than you, I do exact the same thing, but in retrospective, just start wondering why..... BTW love your channel, forgot to mention that.... 😄

      Megan here, wanted to add one thing, we enjoyed the heck out of Clarity for 5.5 years which for us is a very long time! Change is exciting and being open and comfortable with not knowing how things will unfold is something you can only get good at with practice.
