      You're absolutely right!
      IIRC, in the movie "The Hitman's Bodyguard ", two of the characters empty their pistols at each other, then throw them at each other. It's an old gag, but the "weapon" Karl had to do an unpleasant review on has a great advantage in such a situation.
      Whereas the movie protagonists must waste time emptying their weapons before using them as a makeshift rock, owners of the double barreled doorstop know to immediately throw it at their attacker without wasting precious time actually trying to shoot their attacker. Hopefully he is distracted by shiny new things and will forget about his attack and pick up the doorstop and go about figuring out the manual of arms for it.
      Ultimately allowing said (previous) doorstop owner to go about his business.
      Whoops, I went inside my head again.
      I'm ok now

    It was so interesting to watch the whole Desert Tech MDR journey play out live on In Range. First was the honest review identifying the initial problems with the gun. It was honest and constructive criticism. Next was the equally honest response from the company owning the problems and initiating actions to remedy them. I remember the CEO’s sort of awkward video essentially saying that the company was invested in correcting the identified issues. That was an exercise in corporate responsibility that any number of multinationals could learn from. The result is a bull pup that even Karl can love (or at least accept). A master class in honest constructive feedback and a successful corporate response. Congratulations to both parties

    After watching several weeks of side-to-side Kasarda Drill on multiple channels, it is so refreshing to see the classic advance-to-position drill. Also nice to see you have the 60-rd drum in there. I have wondered how they would work in a bullpup ergonomically.

    • @LinkHyrule03
      @LinkHyrule03 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ergonomically, drum mags and bullpups generally don't like each other.
      But from a prone position, you don't have to support the weight and can kick your right elbow out more. But when standing, your elbows like to rub against the drum mag. It works, but isn't super comfortable.

      The problem is that they made the bipod legs just the right height. If you make the legs too long, by extending the handguard, then you've made the bipod less practical.
      Also, this handguard should work just fine for the 20" MDR barrels. As is, the factory handguards for the MDR aren't increased in length when you order a 20" barrel. So far, there are no longer handguards, so I'm not sure I see the benefit in investing the money to make a longer handguard model for the few people who got 20" barrels and the even fewer people who got a 20" barrel AND want the BLK LBL mantis AND would only get the BLK LBL mantis if it were longer.

      @@LinkHyrule03 I hear you, but like me and OP and the 25+ other people liking this, we would want to see it. And there's no need to increase the bipods length. You just have the bipod part stop, and the back 1/2 to 1/3 would just be normal handguard. This is not only for 20" barrels, like what I want in 6.5CM, but also anyone wanting more rail space with a suppressed 16", just like desert techs handguard. You may be right, it may not be worth it for them, but it'd be perfect for some of us at least.

      Why not get one, then?
      Stimulus money is coming, the MDR is the best bullpup on the market, and this BLK LBL bipod handguard just pushes it over the top in its superiority over the competition.
      If you are interested, the MDRxSE in 5.56 is less than $2000. If you look around, you can find them for $1700-$1800 new.
      The side ejecting model offers A LOT of advantages. They completely redesigned and reengineered the internal mechanism, so it has a traditional side ejecting mechanism like an AR or Tavor, it takes less gas to run (thus less recoil), it has a bunch of reliability improvements, many users report getting even better accuracy from the side ejecting models, and the side ejecting model sheds half a pound of weight from the older MDR models.
      Literally the only disadvantages are:
      1) It's only for .223/5.56, so no .308, 6.5CM, or the larger full rifle calibers. The side eject apparently only works for the intermediate calibers.
      2) It no longer ejects forward, but it is still quickly swappable for the ejection side.
      If you want a 5.56 MDR, the MDRxSE side ejecting model is the way to go. It's cheaper and lighter as well.

    There's one thing about bullpups that never gets any attention. They are 1M times less annoying to climb through windows with. Or hatches in armored vehicles or doors in, well, anything. The back heft is actually a big plus when you have to aim upwards from the bottom of a staircase etc, because you can hold that aim basically forever without getting tired. Try it with an AK or FAL if you want to discover how quickly your aim suffers.
    the _Thing_ is that bullpups are so much better in cities and vehicles than regular layout, and that is seriously important for anyone who will have to deal.
    _And_ they can do that with the same effective range as long rifles.

    • @Gerwulf97

      Or even woods, and reeds, or just holding the rifle up in a ready position, or when you need to take a hand off to talk on the radio. Yes all can be accomplished with a carbine, but then you give up long range ballistics/terminal ballistics, and that is huge.

I get that it’s a nice hand guard and I have no clue what all goes into making a hand guard like that so maybe I’m just naive, but I feel like $499 for a hand guard that will only ever work on the MDR series of rifles is a little much. Looks awesome though. Maybe they’ll go down in price eventually because it would be perfect for me.

      Irishman has an aluminum handguard for the MDR for $299.00, but then buying a decent quality bipod for $99.00 and QD mount for another $65.00 and ending up with a bulky bipod setup that snags on everything when I am moving around.....this option is a lot easier to justify. Buy once, cry once.

    • @andersbendsen5931
      @andersbendsen5931 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think the price point is a little off on the high side, but not by much. If you stop and consider the investment, infrastructure and man hours required, it's really not that expensive, even if it is a lot of money. And it honestly is a lot of money. 🤷‍♂️

    • @LinkHyrule03
      @LinkHyrule03 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      $500 isn't bad at all considering not only are you getting a top-tier carbon fiber bipod that pans, tilts, and levels, but you're also getting a really nice aluminum handguard.
      A nice carbon fiber bipod with pan, tilt, leveling, and an adjustable friction collar on its own will run you $400-$600.
      A nice MDR aluminum handguard from Lucky Irishman on its own will run you $250-$300.
      So already, you're coming ahead in price. Not only that, but the end result is FAR lighter than a handguard with a separate bipod AND the bipod is lower profile, which is an insane advantage. Bullpups struggle to accept bipods well because of how short they are. There is not enough room on such a short handguard to accommodate BOTH your hand and a bipod like there is on a long AR. But with this, you have a streamlined flush handguard that your hand can hold and you get no interference from the bipod. That alone is worth $500.
      Their price aside, for the pure advantage of having a flush-fit bipod that isn't there when I don't want it, has ZERO disadvantages, but is still there when I need it, I'd easily pay $800. To me, this is a steal.
