Desert Tech MDR: Issues Resolved

  • Desert Tech has released their own official ammo testing video as well here:
    • 2019 MDR UPGRADES | De...
    When Desert Tech initially sent us the MDR we had a lot of issues: short strokes, failures to eject, light primer strikes, torn rims.
    However, unlike some other companies, they took that input and collaborated with us towards actually resolving the issues.
    We have received the MDR back with an entirely new gas system, a new extractor and a new hammer spring.
    We are very happy to inform our audience that the MDR now lives up to the expectations! The rifle is running flawlessly with M80 mil-surp ball and even has less perceived recoil in the process.
    We can not give higher accolades or kudos to Desert Tech for being responsible, ethical and fantastic to work with! InRange is excited to see the birth of what is ostensibly the most advanced bullpup take flight.
    InRange is entirely viewer supported:

    *Desert Tech* just earned itself an army of new supporters, and the good will of all it's current and near future customers. As a left handed shooter, I will now be putting aside funds for the MDR knowing that Gun Jesus blessed its redeemed form, forgiving it's sins and past transgressions, and Karl trusts it for his upcoming 3 gun competition.
    It's so nice to see there's still a company out there who take pride in their product, listen to the problems customers are having without blaming them for the malfunctions or making excuses, and worked diligently to rectify the issues in a timely and transparent manner.
    I must say, this is one of the best reactions I've seen from a firearms company, or any product selling company in general. Many of us love the concept of the MDR, wanted very badly for it to work smoothly when it had issues, and are now ecstatic that it lives up to the expectations and performs like an absolute beast after remediation.

    Having fondled and admired the MDR at SHOT years ago, watching it become near vaporware, and then seeing you guys have issues with it, this is a very cool outcome. DesertTech certainly benefited from getting their rifle in the hands of some gun nerds who have experience with a wide variety of semi auto rifles, experience which they likely don't have in house. The experience you guys have developed actually running many odd guns hard in competition was likely invaluable to them.
    One of the things we are slowly losing due to the Hughes Amendment to the FOPA is the nerd community that has deep experience with a wide range of full auto firearm systems, which makes me think future development will need to make a vast number of mistakes again as the knowledge of actual operational/functional knowledge of legacy arms is lost. I've been blessed with exposure to a huge number of interesting firearms, some obscure stuff even in detail, but it has served just as much to alert me to how much we lose as the guys I've shot with for decades pass away. Thanks to the FOPA driving the price of classic machine guns through the roof you'll never again see the deep collections that true gun nerds put together years ago. When I go to shoots these days it's guys with more money than brains who bought a few vanity pieces they barely know how to operate rather than the guys I used to meet who intimately knew their vast array of guns (and slammed whatever questionable ammo was six cents a round that month through their guns, many times learning valuable lessons!)
    I'm lucky to be part of a dwindling and aging community of gun nerds whose general knowledge strikes me as more valuable every year. Thank you Ian and Karl for your dedication to this sort of nerdery and for the public representation of our hobby as the respectable community of affable, intelligent individuals that I have had the pleasure to experience and be part of.

      @LinkHyrule03 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      There are 20" barrels (for .308, 6.5 Creedmoor, and .22 Creedmoor), but not 22" barrels.
      I'm trying to decide if you are from an anti-gun area where you need a longer gun for it to be legal or if you really do want a 22" barrel.
      22" is quite long, almost obscenely so for a bullpup, so I'm curious as to your rationale.

    • @KKovacsUSN
      @KKovacsUSN 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      LinkHyrule03 the M14 has a 22" barrel. 308 works well with longer barrels. This weapon only offers this shorter barrel. And for the price i wouldn't want to try replacing it.

    • @LinkHyrule03
      @LinkHyrule03 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@KKovacsUSN M14 is also obscenely long compared to the MDR. And you're only thinking about the full length M14's, not the shorter variants.
      And again, there are 20" barrels that are readily available for the MDR.
      If you want 22", 24", 30", or 50", I'm sure you can manufacture one yourself. Desert Tech does offer blanks for people to make their own barrels.
      Additionally the minimal advantage you get going from a 20" barrel to a 22" barrel would be far better gotten by making the switch to 6.5 Creedmoor, which is better across the board.
