This is in the top 5 episodes. ICONIC. Audrey's dance. Albert's arrival. The rock throwing. The dream. So many seeds laid, and so much lore to explore and unpack from the dream.
I've never ever seen two people in TV or in real life, that simply enjoy each others prescence as much as Dale Cooper and Sheriff Truman do. I mean the actors are good friends as well, but that is just their characters and David Lynch's weird power of capturing genuinity shining through. All their interactions just seem so effortlessly intimate. It is more prominent later in the show but still. It is so fascinating. the show in general is just so good at being eerie yet earnest. you are great!! i love that we are getting into the real mysteries now. eagerly awaiting your next reaction!
Albert is my favourite side character in Twin Peaks. Miguel Ferrer is so great at being obnoxious and arrogant. Albert though. He gets so many great lines. Let's Rock!
This is one of the best episodes and really lays the ground for more mysteries. And yeah, mixing darkness, light, and humour is one of the unique Lynchian themes. And Frost's contribution to the characters and lore is immense as well. The two of them mixed well together.
Yes, I believe that this episode made me an even bigger fan when I first saw it, even though I was hooked after the pilot. I feel that this episode really captures the Twin Peaks spirit, and Agent Cooper's interest in mysticism made me like him even more 😁 Thanks for the reaction!
Still blows me away this this aired on network television in 1990. There was never anything like this on standard network tv. Those poor people had no idea the depths of weird they were getting into 🤣 btw the Simpsons did a backwards talking Red Room scene parody a few years after this.
Queer Street was a street in London I think where debtor’s courts and divorce courts were located. So it referred to a place you’d be if you were in trouble of some kind.
I'm hoping you stay with it with through to The Return. In order to fully appreciate TP: The Return you might want to... Watch the original series, both seasons, the movies: TP: Fire Walk With Me, TP: FWWM, The Missing Pieces, read The Secret Diary Of Laura Palmer, The Secret History Of Twin Peaks, spend 25 years in a Tibetan monastery studying Kabbalah, Transcendental meditation, Early Dada and Surrealistic cinematography, Futurism and Industrial Noise music, Ritual Sex Majick, and finally write a 250,000 word dissertation entitled The Fish In The Percolator: David Lynch, Carl Jung, Wilhelm Reich And The Sublimation Of Self In Post-Modern America. It won't actually help, of course, but you could do that.
@@sethdoejersey Agreed. I survived 15 minutes of Twin Perfect. On the other hand I thoroughly enjoyed Maimrose's series of essays. She is upfront about her feminist and postmodernist lens, and recognises that interpretations are personal. Didn't mention Perfect by name (iirc) but made it clear she wasn't impressed by him. Did an excellent job of relating Twin Peaks to other soaps of the era and highlighted a lot of filmic references that had flown over my head. Also, expect commenters who think other people are enjoying it wrong, and then go on to explain the correct way to enjoy David Lynch.
Sad but also kinda funny indeed. That's one of the brilliances of Twin Peaks. They give you a scene like Leland dancing with the photo and make you feel those two contradictory emotions at the same time. And we arrive to the famous scene of the dream. Twin Peaks is like a dinner table. Lynch builds the cutlery and the plates while Frost builds the solid legs that hold the table and cooks the tasty food that fills the plates.
Ray Wise really cut his hand on the picture of laura on accident, all the blood is real and Lynch just ran with it. Many years later the bloodied photo went up for auction, if I remember correctly it was for charity.
I've been a fan of TP since it first aired and, if pressed to pick a favorite episode, an episode that encapsulates everything great and weird about this show it would be this episode. It has it all. The most Twin Peaks-y of all Twin Peaks episodes.
I wonder what would have happened if Agent Cooper had been aware that Jacques Renault was another J-person of interest and had included his name during the rock-throwing.
This show is a classic from start to finish, especially for people who know how to appreciate it for what it is, the way it is. My Top 3 Favorite Shows Of All Time: 1. Babylon 5 2. The Wire 3. Twin Peaks The other two are very different, and I love them for entirely different reasons, but I couldn't recommend them any less.
With Audrey, they really set us up in the pilot to see her as a spoiled troublemaker, but over the next few episodes, we quickly realize it's the rest of her family that are nuts and cause trouble, and she's the sane one. 🙂
Yes, I was totally flabbergasted way back then. And we had to wait 1 week for the next episode. So I took comfort with fellow students who were mystified, too. And, in between college hours, we came up with all kinds of theories. Too many hightlights in this episode by the way, it was also the episode where Audrey Horne slowly turned into one of my favourite characters.... but since watching this vid today my new highlight is 9:08 "what are these fools up to?" Lmao.
Watching this episode as a teen when it aired was absolutely MIND BLOWING for me. lol the Black Lodge scene was just *chef’s kiss*. I got the VHS set and watched the show SOOOO many times that a few tapes were worn out and one even snapped and i had to splice it back together. This VHS is still one of my most prized possessions that i will NEVER get rid of. My original copy of Laura’s diary was read so many times that the pages started falling out. Enjoying these episodes! Edited to ask if you have already watched Lost? This was another show that blew my mind, even though I watched it many years after it originally aired. I am currently trying to persuade my husband to watch this show but he is hesitant.
“…these two people though, you cheat away, I’m into this.” Me and my partner this whole show with Ed and Norma lmfaoooo. They truly are one of the best couples on this show, despite everything.
"I don't get it." Well, still, 34 years later very few people have got, or think they do. There's a 4 hour long Twin Peaks "dissertation" on Twin Perfect on TH-cam that provides a tangible explanation to the strange world of Twin Peaks. I recommend giving it a watch once you finish watching the series.
I'd honestly steer clear of the Twin Perfect video, it's needlessly pedantic. Content creator Maggie Mae Fish has got much more enlightening videos about Twin Peaks.
You have no idea how big this show was, even just after the pilot. This 3rd episode solidified it. This show was bigger than Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, whatever new successful show has come since. None were bigger or more zeitgeisty or influential than Twin Peaks, which had an almost religious following. This was THE water cooler show. Everyone was talking about it. People didn't just watch this show, they were OBSESSED. And this is before streaming, so unless you recorded it on a VCR, you missed an episode, and then that was it. The FOMO was real. It didn't repeat until much later (however I remember the pilot getting an encore showing for people who missed it in the 1st week.) You had to wait an EXCRUCIATING week until each new episode, which was a kind of delicious torment, then months between season 1 and 2. And 26 years until season 3.
I lived with friends at the time and we recorded every single episode on a VCR. Then we re-watched each episode every night for a week until the next one aired. We were definitely obsessed 😁😍
@@atomicnumber34 The nice thing about waiting 25 years (or technically 26) is that we didn't know we were waiting 😉 I never even dreamed that we would ever get any more, so it was just a complete thrill when it happened.
I was out of internet for 3 days, and just as they fixed it i saw you uploaded episode 3! huzzah! This episode is the one that hooks up 90% of the people on their first time seeing Twin Peaks!, i got hooked from episode 1 but 3 is the one that cemented my love for this series! Just wait on Albert, this is my favorite character played by Miguel Ferrer! You will need to que up some fresh huckleberry pie, vanilla icecream and coffee for next episode!
Great episode. The last 5 min of dream was just jaw dropping at the time it aired. I got a call 30 sec after it ended from friend who saw it and he asked 'who killed Laura Palmer?' Apparently the end of dream was filmed backwards with the actors speaking backwards (except for Cooper as Kyle did not have the time to learn it) and they played is forward as thus the odd sound and movements. Really creepy and so innovative for the time. One of the top episodes of TV of all time. If only things could be as creative today. that being said it did open the door for many better shows to follow. IF the network had not pushed for a quick resolution I feel the show would have been better. At the time people mentioned the Fugitive but that was on 5 SEASONS before they finished that mystery. The amazing thing at TP is most episodes last one day in the town so to expect a serial killer to be found after 7 or 8 days is just crazy thought but alas was ABC execs...if only they could have pushed it out even further. Still a fun ride till it is revealed who the killer is.
Twin Peaks became an obsession, not only in my house but throughout the country. It was far in advance of anything that TV did at the time. It was Meta before people knew what Meta was.

"Sometimes my arms bend back." - brilliant !
This might be the single most important TV episode of all time. It opened the way for imaginative and less homogenized visions of what TV could be.

Huckleberry pie: huckleberries are related to blueberries, but are larger than blueberries. They range in color from blue, to purple, to red.

So many clues in the dream sequence!! All will start to make sense when you put the clues together.
