Limpkin Chicks Fight Each Other for Food

Limpkin chicks fight each other for food at Lake Hollingsworth in Lakeland, Florida. It's a matter of instinct and survival as two parents try to keep up with four hungry chicks. The strongest of the chicks will intimidate the others and shadow parent as he/she spears the marshy waters to find food, preferably apple snails. Parents try to share among the four, but while they are cracking the shells and prying the snails out, aggressive chick(s) are "staking their claim!" This fight for food helps strengthen the young that survive and ready themselves to be on their own.
