Jack njones Hyundai/Genesis is putting out a very good product, great cars. I’ve been leasing them for several years now and they keep getting better. As a collision center manager who does a lot of work for local dealerships, Hyundai/Genesis included, I have to admit they’re really setting bar. The materials are premium, a lot of standard tech, useful tech, some gimmicky, but overall they’re well built and put together. The screen really is the least of it. 100k mile warranty, can’t beat it. You should go to your local dealership after we get through with this pandemic and set up a test drive. It’ll really change your perception. Stay well.

I owned the last generation G80 and miss it all the time. Lacked the performance edge, but it was my daily driver and nearly perfect in that regard. My only real complaint was the transmission which didn’t rev match and the shift times were slower. Still had good shift logic and the shift times weren’t terrible, but it left you wanting more. Their attention to detail is amazing. Did you know that the last gen Genesis/ G80 suspension was tuned by Lotus? Not that surprising when you consider the talent they recruit. We all know about Bierman leaving BMW. However, there was a young Lamborghini designer and another Bentley/Lamborghini designer as well as a nAMG dude. Def not playing around.

I like the attention to detail, especially things that people don't often think about like big brake calipers. There's just something sexy about those larger brakes (which appear to be the same as the Kia Stinger and Genesis G70).

Awhile back I went to a Maserati dealership to check out a special promo on their Ghibli S. The salesman boasted it was a "400hp luxury sedan for $95,000 with a Ferrari engine". I havent stopped laughing at everyone driving a Maserati since then - its car for people who are complete fools with their money. This G80 will give a run for everyone's money in the luxury segment.

Man, that is a nice car! Looks a lot better than current Infiniti or Acura products. I'd definitely consider this if I could afford one. A lot of people like to complain about the horrible resale value of Hyundai/Kia products, but that only effects you if you only keep your cars 3-4 years. The beauty of one of these is that you could reasonably expect to keep in 8-10 years without the major issues that you might encounter on an Audi or BMW. This car probably won't sell in huge numbers, but the GV80 and upcoming GV70 absolutely will if they are anywhere near as impressive as this. These interiors look better than the ones in Japanese luxury cars, and are miles ahead of the penalty box interiors in Cadillac, Lincoln, or Tesla.
The outside, I like it. I think the current one is better, IMO. The interior is the redesign it needed. Well done. Now, all they need is a marketing campaign

Yup, it's officially off record "TBD" for now. They got three engine choices available off the bat, 2.5ltr turbo, 3.5ltr twin turbo and a 2.5ltr diesel so unless they got a secret up their sleeve, a sport model won't surface for awhile.
"or is it unnecessary?"... The 3.5T model adds "Electronically Controlled Suspension" that is not available with the 2.5T. I'm hoping the "Electronically Controlled Suspension" is sport tuned, I will only buy the new G80 if it will be sporty feeling in the twisty mountain roads of southern West Virginia. The G70 drive would probably suit me better but I want more room in the back for passengers.

I think they may do some cosmetic things like quad exhaust and front splitter maybe a bit more aggressive with the rear spoiler deck and add carbon fiber to replace wood trim interior. maybe do a minor tune to get it to 400HP

I purchased a US 2020 Santa Fe Limited AWD 2.0T last November and it is an incredible vehicle. We had a 2002 Santa Fe and a couple of Elantras ('03 and '15) and seeing the evolution of the Hyundai product over the years has been impressive. They have come so far in such a short time. I design tooling for foundries and have done several calipers and anchor brackets for the Mobis group so I feel like in some way I've played a very small part in their success (Very Small). My heart belongs to the G90 and I am on my second one. Traded my 2017 G90 5.0 AWD on a 2020 G90 5.0 AWD but the G80 is pretty nice. It actually had items that surprisingly my G90 5.0 Ultimate does not have like: digital instrument cluster, self park and headphone jack for the rear entertainment system. When my granddaughter watches a movie we have to listen to it on the sound system. Seems to be a big error on their part.

@Jack njones nope The e class is creaky and there are a lot of videos in TH-cam to prove that Not to mention reliability There is a lot of piano black scratchy plastic in that car compared to this which uses leather all around
Interior similar to mercdes s class especialy the doors area and seats ( head rest cover / pillow ) and other german cars . The screen as i recall similar to lexus and may be other german made cars which not include mb s class . I own mb s class maybach 560 2018 . Just love it .

I owned the last generation G80 and miss it all the time. Lacked the performance edge, but it was my daily driver and nearly perfect in that regard. My only real complaint was the transmission which didn’t rev match and the shift times were slower. Still had good shift logic and the shift times weren’t terrible, but it left you wanting more.
Their attention to detail is amazing. Did you know that the last gen Genesis/ G80 suspension was tuned by Lotus? Not that surprising when you consider the talent they recruit. We all know about Bierman leaving BMW. However, there was a young Lamborghini designer and another Bentley/Lamborghini designer as well as a nAMG dude. Def not playing around.

Having Hyundai/Kia with side view camera/display in the tach/speedo for turns was an industry first (Honda had it in the less useful nav screen and only for right turns). But this AR in the nav makes it almost like a video game? That's next level stuff...again.

The salesman boasted it was a "400hp luxury sedan for $95,000 with a Ferrari engine".
I havent stopped laughing at everyone driving a Maserati since then - its car for people who are complete fools with their money.

Man, that is a nice car! Looks a lot better than current Infiniti or Acura products. I'd definitely consider this if I could afford one.
A lot of people like to complain about the horrible resale value of Hyundai/Kia products, but that only effects you if you only keep your cars 3-4 years. The beauty of one of these is that you could reasonably expect to keep in 8-10 years without the major issues that you might encounter on an Audi or BMW.
This car probably won't sell in huge numbers, but the GV80 and upcoming GV70 absolutely will if they are anywhere near as impressive as this. These interiors look better than the ones in Japanese luxury cars, and are miles ahead of the penalty box interiors in Cadillac, Lincoln, or Tesla.

Yup, it's officially off record "TBD" for now. They got three engine choices available off the bat, 2.5ltr turbo, 3.5ltr twin turbo and a 2.5ltr diesel so unless they got a secret up their sleeve, a sport model won't surface for awhile.

The 3.5T model adds "Electronically Controlled Suspension" that is not available with the 2.5T. I'm hoping the "Electronically Controlled Suspension" is sport tuned, I will only buy the new G80 if it will be sporty feeling in the twisty mountain roads of southern West Virginia. The G70 drive would probably suit me better but I want more room in the back for passengers.

I think they may do some cosmetic things like quad exhaust and front splitter maybe a bit more aggressive with the rear spoiler deck and add carbon fiber to replace wood trim interior. maybe do a minor tune to get it to 400HP

I purchased a US 2020 Santa Fe Limited AWD 2.0T last November and it is an incredible vehicle. We had a 2002 Santa Fe and a couple of Elantras ('03 and '15) and seeing the evolution of the Hyundai product over the years has been impressive. They have come so far in such a short time. I design tooling for foundries and have done several calipers and anchor brackets for the Mobis group so I feel like in some way I've played a very small part in their success (Very Small). Keep the videos coming and stay safe.

Great review!! This is my new dream car even though some of my friends tell me it's for old(er) people lol (I'm 23). I would love to see a video of all the color combinations available. They have so many colors, it's hard to choose from... Was this Tasman Blue? It looks gorgeous in the sunlight! My heart belongs to the G90 and I am on my second one. Traded my 2017 G90 5.0 AWD on a 2020 G90 5.0 AWD but the G80 is pretty nice. It actually had items that surprisingly my G90 5.0 Ultimate does not have like: digital instrument cluster, self park and headphone jack for the rear entertainment system. When my granddaughter watches a movie we have to listen to it on the sound system. Seems to be a big error on their part.

There is a lot of piano black scratchy plastic in that car compared to this which uses leather all around
Interior similar to mercdes s class especialy the doors area and seats ( head rest cover / pillow ) and other german cars . The screen as i recall similar to lexus and may be other german made cars which not include mb s class . I own mb s class maybach 560 2018 . Just love it .
