The location of the mv, biggest historical site in the world/china. The number of extras. The international dancers. Good thing he earned 4x what he spent.

This MV was a masterpiece. This song is arguably the best song of the year! I was beyond impressed.
Lit a english word sound like chinese word for lotus flower antis calling him white lotus which means pretending to be pure but have evil inside but instead he get mad he used it as constructive criticism and motivation to work hard the dragon symbol of the power inside him to make him go on just like a lotus that survive even on the mud.
"LIT" MV which was filmed at Hengdian World Studios (the largest film studio in the WORLD!)
And he spend 1.7 billion won or 1.4 million usd on the mv lit plus the production studio editted this the one also editted two korean blockbuster movie along with the gods and oscar best picture parasite. Plus the choreo in this mv is the collab of free style champ primeking_trix and EXO Super handsome Choreographer kasper with Lay himself and if you notice his back up dancer the black guy he join stage k where EXO is the judge but team usa lose And get only second place but look at him now he is part of Lay team😍

This is only pt 1 of the album which includes chinese traditional instruments mixed with modern music in which lay calls it "M-POP "which stands for Mix -Mandarin pop . PT 2 of the album is yet to come out ..the date is not confirmed but it will be more of the modern trendy vibe

@@dombachina7339 I think they are talking about the other Chinese members of EXO (EXO-M) that left: Kris Wu, Tao and Luhan. Lay is the only Chinese member left in EXO, there were originally 4. If you watch Growl you can see them all there, and in Call Me Baby Tao is still there as well. There are a lot of issues with Lay being a member of a Korean group, because he is a Chinese Ambassador and Korean Ent Companies tend to treat non-Korean members like trash...so poor lay is stuck in the middle. But he loves his group members like brothers and they love him, so fingers crossed they will stay together forever.

love how genuinely excited you guys got! I enjoyed your reactions a lot. this is definitely very high quality and the production is crazy! the beat is insane. I feel like they had the performance/dance in mind when producing this beat. the music video ads a whole different type of thrill to this. love it! I’m not the type to rewatch a music video a bunch of times but I found myself watching this music video over and over again. can’t get enough. it really does look like a movie.
I think the most impressive thing is how involved lay is in EVERYTHING. he really is a singer, dancer, producer, model and actor. he is a super hard worker and will try to improve in every aspect there is. you can tell by how his music just gets better and better.
I’d also like to add: lay pays for all of his music videos, sm doesn’t! it costed him A LOT. I also appreciate how everyone involved got properly credited. something you don’t often see when it comes to music videos.

The MV was filmed 6 months ago at Zhejiang Hengdian World Studios in China, the world’s largest outdoor film studio. More than a hundred background actors were involved in this MV. He personally spent $1.4M for the overall production. The company that made the effects for the Lit MV is Dexter Studios. This is the first time that they have produced a music video as they usually make movies, such as the Oscar-winning "Parasite."
The word 莲 "lian" (which sounds like lit in chinese) means LOTUS. The slang the haters used to say to him is 白莲花 (bai lian hua) which means someone who is pure in appearance, but opposite inside. But lotus is a holy and pure image in Chinese history which is not a small thing like those haters said. The bad metaphor happens these years from some ignorant and stupid people. He speak highly of it and correct the reputation for it as irony to the haters.
Another thing is that there's an old metaphor about lotus: 出淤泥而不染 (which he used in the lyric of this song), which means growing and living in the mud/silt but not being stained or dyed by it, referring to the world vs him as a person and his goal and dreams. He used the 2 different sides of the word lotus.
The overall MV is based off of Lay’s favorite Chinese historical figure fighting oppression. The MV is the portrayal of a Chinese General’s entrapment by the Han soldiers while trying to rescue his wife. The general named Xiang Yu, who fought in the battle of Gaixia. The voice in the 1st 1min of the MV is actually the voice of a Peking opera artist singing “The Song of Gaixia” which the General composed for his wife Lady Yu (potrayed in Lay’s song, Jade) who later took her own life
Lay released his semi-autobiographical book “Independent 24” or "Standing firm at 24." In the book, Yixing talked about how he thinks he has 2 dragons inside him, the good & the bad. He always listens to the good one, which the dragon protecting him and helping through the difficulties. Chinese dragons traditionally symbolize potent and auspicious powers, strength, and good luck. This could be the reference to the dragon from the mv is helping him to fight the enemies.
Haters made *Lay* very angry and this is a war declaration, my interpretation to this mv is that this is a message to the haters that hurts him a lot ,he is surrounded by haters (and is alone) he is a lit (white lotus: the haters call him lit "in Chinese culture it mean someone who is pure in appearance, but opposite inside) he is the king (the king of music in China), music is his arena (so the fight has to be there) , the dragon (those who support and love his work) will fight for him and protect him, his music or his mission is not to fight the hatters but to promote Chinese culture

The best MV ever. The king did again. Actually Lay is everything (Producer, songwriter, dancer...), he is so talented all-round. He has achieved success that no Chinese could do alone and continues. And Lay did this Mv's, choreography and song's everything. Masterpiece. Also you should look lyrics, so perfect.
Lay is really king of China. If you watch something about China, Lay always exists. He is the producer of the programs. He's at the top of the record. He is introducing China to the world. Everyone sees him as the king in China.
I'm wondering if Lay did martial arts, the way he moves is like ninja really. He is amazing, he deserves more views and attention. Lay is very unique in his own way and what he does is quality music, powerful dancing moves, powerful lyrics, he can do everyhting on a very high level. I'm not sure but I think it's most expensive MV I've seen related to Asia. So it'a amazing the level he has, this man deserves a lot of appreciation and respect, that's it!
Lit has similar pronunciation as lotus flower in Chinese, and it describes a Chinese religious belief of the duality of life and death. In lit mv, general Xiang Yu (the one in Peking opera costume. He’s a very famous war hero who fought until the last minute) is the past life and Lay in modern clothes is the present life. Dragon represents general’s spirit and soul, and the lotus flower and witch with the dragon eye tattoo help pass along the spirit.
Another meaning of Lotus flower is the symbol of growth and purity because it grows and blossoms out of mud. Some people also use it to describe someone who is pure and innocent in appearance but maybe opposite inside. Lay’s antis used to call him white lotus because they don’t believe such a huge star could be so honest, humble, hard working and respectful to others. They also mock at his dream of bringing Chinese music to the world, saying that all of his hard work and effort will go in vain. This song is Lay’s response to bullies. “No one beat me down, I walk my own path, I’m the lit”.

Antis call Lay a “white lotus” in Chinese. It’s a slang used against someone who acts innocent to get sympathy from others and a lot of antis use this name to put down Lay because his personality is the more timid and kinda innocent type. It’s hard to explain but people think he’s fake basically therefore call him a white lotus. This song is a clap back at the haters who call him a lotus (莲 pronounced as lian) and he pronounces the word very similarity to the English word “lit”. That’s why he kept saying “I am the 莲(lian)” followed by “I am lit” it’s a play on words.

I was so excited when you guys got to react to this incredible video and song. Actually, Lay is incredible in this entire video. He looks handsome in the video. And, I LOVE the diversity of his dancers in his opening sequence. And, yes, Lay's Krumping skills are beautiful, throughout the entire video.
