A lot of money was spent on this MV. I believe it was filmed with a movie studio not just a music video company. He's saying "Lian", which means lotus but it sounds like "lit". He also has a song called Jade, which in Chinese is "Yu" so he makes it sound like "you". This song is a message for his haters, apparently they call him white lotus because they think he's pretending to be pure and he turned it back on them by saying he's like a lotus in the mud but his petals stay white because the mud doesn't stick to him.

Love of my life, the way i love this man 😭😭😭 Lay is part of EXO Kpop group the last album he took part in was “Don’t mess up my tempo” I’m waiting for him to make a comeback with the group but since the members are all taking turn in the military (mandatory 2 year service for Korean men) i think I’m gonna have to wait longer. He’s been working on his solo music and his members support him just as he supports their solo works. Lay has his own company and he’s one of the sweetest persons out there, heart of gold. One of EXO’s main dancers. He has great vocals and he produced his own stuff. So much money was use for this music video but it was so worth it. I love Zhang Yixing (his Chinese name)

The story in the "Lit" MV, Lay said, is based on his favorite Chinese historical figure. In the MV he is portraying a Chinese general who has been trapped by the Han soldiers while trying to rescue his wife. The general is a real historical figure named Xiang Yu, who fought in the battle of Gaixia. In the beginning of the MV you hear a Peking opera singer performing “The Song of Gaixia” which is a song that Xiang Yu composed for his wife, Lady Yu, who eventually took her own life. (Fun fact: In Lay's song "Jade" which is a song also on this album, the story is supposed to be about Lady Yu and Xiang Yu's love story.)
Everything about this song and MV is a poetic, cinematic masterpiece. For example, the word Lotus in Chinese sounds a little like Lit in English. (Another play on words, just like the Chinese pronunciation of Jade sounds like Yu or you in English, which Lay cleverly used in his song "Jade." Get it? Jade = Yu and Jade = you.) Lay used lotus (Lit) as a metaphor for no matter how hard people try to bring him down, he will stand strong and survive through anything the world throws at him, like a lotus flower. The Lotus often represents purity. The Lotus is special because it grows in the mud, but out of the most dirty and unforgiving conditions, blooms one of the most beautiful flowers. The Lotus is a famous symbol in Chinese culture and it often represents how something good and pure can grow and triumph despite what you would think are unforgiving conditions.
Lay has said that the idea for "Lit" comes from the fact that his haters have been calling him "White Lotus," which refers to someone who acts innocent, and uses it for his gain and plays the victim all the time. So when he wrote the song he took that negativity and embraced it and turned it into something positive. So, in other words, he is saying: "You thought you could bring me down, but you are wrong. I am not a fake white lotus, but I am a true lotus who is LIT. I am more powerful then you know and I will rise above all your negativity and show you how I grow even stronger and more beautiful no matter how much mud and dirt I have to go through," etc.
The dragon is a very powerful symbol in Chinese culture and it is even said that if you are Chinese you are a descendant of the dragon. Chinese dragons traditionally symbolize vitality, strength and good luck. In one interview I read, Lay also talked about how he has two dragons inside him -- a good dragon and a bad dragon. He said he always chooses to listen to the good dragon. The good dragon is the one who is protecting him and helping him through all his hardships and difficult times. So the main theme of "Lit" is about fighting his inner self and learning to ignore and overcome the people who are trying to knock him down.
Lay (Zhang Yixing) is the Chinese member of the super famous Kpop boy group EXO. He is one of the main dancers and a lead singer of the group. EXO debuted in 2012, so he has been around for more than 8 years -- you are just late to the game. :D. And, as you can see, he is also a very famous solo artist and dancer in China and internationally. He has been given the title as China's national producer and youth ambassador by the Chinese government. He is one of the most well respected singers and dancers in China. He also has a couple of all English albums. His English albums were part of his foyer into U.S. music industry starting in 2018.
As you have discovered, Lay is is a singer, rapper, songwriter, composer, producer actor, director, editor, dancer, designer, etc. -- genius -- and with every new release of his, he just one ups himself. And "Lit" is a prime example of that.
If you study the credits, you see that this MV was produced by Zhangyixing Studios, which is named after Lay -- he owns the studio. So, the credits show, Lay has his hand in almost every aspect of this production. It's his name you will see dozens of times in the credits. He is the one that wrote and composed the song, he even produced the beat himself. He is his own beat-maker. He is also executive producer, he came up with the storyline, he helped choreograph and he helped direct the MV, etc. But that's normal for Lay's solo work With Lay, when you ask who did it? -- for any part of the song, MV or choreography -- you are pretty much guaranteed that the answer is: Lay. He does it all. He is such a perfectionist that there is almost nothing that he is involved in that he doesn't have 100% control of himself. He prides himself in the fact that all aspects of his music are created by him.
This MV took more than 6 months to make and more than $1.2 million to produce. And it was all done by Lay. They actually filmed at one of the largest and most well known film studios in China. What you saw was the real temple. No Screenshots. The dragon was CGI, but the rest of the set is all real.
You should really check out the making of film th-cam.com/video/x_K39ntCEXw/w-d-xo.html and Lay's "dance practice"/choreography video for "Lit." th-cam.com/video/9Yefy6iw0As/w-d-xo.html to really see how things were made.

Haters made *Lay* very angry and this is a war declaration, my interpretation to this mv is that this is a message to the haters that hurts him a lot ,he is surrounded by haters (and is alone) he is a lit (white lotus: the haters call him lit "in Chinese culture it mean someone who is pure in appearance, but opposite inside) he is the king (the king of music in China), music is his arena (so the fight has to be there) , the dragon (those who support and love his work) will fight for him and protect him, his music or his mission is not to fight the hatters but to promote Chinese culture
There is another dimention related to a true story and the site where he is filming this mv, but i m not Chinese so i don't know about this historical things

Chinese dragons are closely related to serpents and they come out of the sea. They have very short legs and 5 claws at the end of the legs. Lay spent his own money of $1.4 Million USD. Ge wrote, directed, choreographed, edited, and produced this video. It was filmed at the biggest movie facility in China. Virtually all historical dramas and movies are made there. Lay, better known as Zhang Yixing (his real name) was a child actor in China long before be went to Korea and was recruited to join EXO. He left Korea in 2015 due to the political issues between China and Korea and continued to pursue his solo projects promoting M-Pop and not K-Pop. His ultimate desire and goal is to introduce to the global community, the beauty of Chinese culture and traditions incorporating ancient musical instruments, music and dance with modern contemporary music. He has created his own legacy by establishing CHROMOSOME ENTERTAINMENT GROUP and has recruited, mentored, and trained new wannabe Chinese idols.

Dude i dont know why u are trying to make everything is made of CG's here, these days the trend is not CG anymore people loves real stuffs, they spend over milion for this Mv most of the stuffs are big hand made crafts the only think here is the dragon who is CG all the other stuffs can be maked by simple with light angles and etc. just accept it some videos can be maked that good without CG, cuz in the whole video u sound like ""These things has to be CG there is no way" and this is kinda dissrespectfull for me
