- In this video we're listening to ABBA. Of course we know most of this band's hits. They were one of the biggest bands of the 70's, and almost every household had an album of theirs where we lived. We're really excited to hear a song we don't know of theirs, especially considering who asked us to check it out. Let's dig in. Enjoy!

I was at this concert screaming my little heart out! 🤣 It was a wonderful time with ABBAmania! ABBA on the radio and Countdown on TV. The ABBA phenomenon in Australia had to be captured, and what better way to do that than in a movie!!! 😍❤Thanx for reacting! Those were great years!
And one thing about this concert! I have to watch the movie to be reminded that it did rain. Not even rain could distract us from the magic up on that stage! ~ Simone
That’s the one thing I remember about the film was the Constant and steady rain that nearly threatened that gig being cancelled
👍🏴
@@jaymacgee_A_Bawbag_Blethering It's so funny because I heard a few years later that it was a security issue to cancel the show, because there was a risk of a riot.
It was an unforgettable night.
@@SimoneDavisSandersIII yeah that was my understanding too 👌

Thank you for sharing this!I guess you cherish this experience in your bag with your most exciting childhood memories. This phenomenal band is now a pan-Generational uniting code, 4 decades later on, much to the surprise of their critics who overlooked them as 'nothing special","commercial crap"(as Bjorn stated) or even a chewing gum that once you 'spit out you'll never remember'.I'm so glad that now these 4 are the survivors who have the last laugh.I LUV THEM.
WOW!!!!YES,that explosive opener under torental rain and an in front of an electrified audience. This filmed momentum is monumental .Thank U for reacting to this!!!One of the rarest reactions to the live version that is much beloved by the ones who are familiar to this.
I've never hidden my love of ABBA, even when punk was raging. The quality of their songwriting was always very evident to me. I think Hole in Your Soul is the stand-out from this particular show.
An album classic track from the glorious 'Arrival" album.ABBA rocked the musicverse with that tour.Blessed the one who captured and saved for us this adventure.A fine legacy, this '77 tour.
Abba the movie I watched as kid in cinema maybe 1979 was the year ... I dont remember much but I fall in love with this blondie forever, she was so amazing and captivated!
ABBA transcends all genres!
Both SC and I are huge ABBA fans. SC saw them live many moons ago, and she said it was her favourite and most memorable gig ever.
Good choice, Sir Jay 👏 🇬🇧🏴☠️🏴
I’m genuinely thrilled for all of us that this on the spot request got played col
👍🏴
In addition to their TV appearances,
ABBA did three tours:
1) in 1974/75 had a mixed success and there are only audios
2) the memorable Europe and Australia 1977
3) the unforgettable of North America and Europe 1979, which culminates in Japan 1980
"Tiger" is a powerful song from the album "Arrival" (1976)
and it is with which they open their long-awaited tour of Australia, the country where ABBAmania was born in 1975
This video is very interesting, it shows ABBA in the anteroom and preparations for the exit,
the images of the deluge and the wind, and the audience with umbrellas that remained faithful and enjoyed the Concert;
all this is part of the film ABBA The Movie (1977)
the lyrics of the song are very interesting, and the voices of Agnetha and Frida alternate the softness of the bridge and the energy of the chorus, with Agnetha closing on one of her highest notes
Have a nice weekend
I hope to see more ABBA videos, for example:
"He is your brother" in the same concert and movie
My best regards from
Buenos Aires Argentina
Buenos Dias.. hope I’ve spelled it correctly eduardo 😅

There also did Summer tours of the Swedish Folkparks in 1973 (over 60 concerts) and in 1975 where the fullest audio of their early setlist was recorded by a fan at Eskilstuna.
They're still loved over here in Australia.
This was never officially released as a single but it's a very well known track.
Hi guys 😊 The song uses 'tiger' as a metaphor to the city life that could easily eat one's life up.
Do look up for it's lyrics as it mentioned about 'the city' and it's night life and how it keep referring it to tiger, ready to pounce on you if you let your guard down
Well analyzed and observed.That's it.
Hi Alex😊 thanks. Every aspect of ABBA's songs is intricate, exquisite and beautiful isn't it? Lyrics, melody, harmonies, instruments, arrangements, productions, relatability to our mundane everyday lives, are all entrenched in each and every ABBA song, they're purely blissful and delightfully intoxicating...
We, ABBA super fans, are truly truly blessed❤😊
And I forgot another thing, that we, as ABBA fans are forever blessed to have one another, even though we might be far away from various other continents and part of the world.
Peace and Love to you and all fans, bless you all😊❤

This is a great ABBA track it's off of their "Arrival" album if I remember rightly.
It is and it’s brilliant ❤

A beloved deep cut from the classic '70s ARRIVAL album, yes indeed.A big fave of many fans and a no1 UK album for 10 whole non-consecutive but 'insistent' weeks.

You've surprised me with ABBA, in a good way.

You didn’t listen to the lyrics very well, they clearly said the city is the tiger , it will reach you and eat you
The song is all metaphors. Pretty easy.
"They did quite well.." :) This band had 9 number ones on the UK, and 19 hits on the top 10. They`ve sold around 400 milion albums...
plus 10 no1 albums(last one in 2021)
I still know every word in this song. Those ABBA albums were always playing in the house.
Me too. It’s all there from 50 years ago. Amazing ❤
Me too.All of us in the family. From our grandparents, parents and to our kids.

@@jaymacgee_A_Bawbag_Blethering I first saw them on a show prior to Countdown and I was amazed, but then they looked twice as amazing when I saw their videos on Countdown in '74/'75.
We were obsessed with them and every song mattered.
@@alexioverdo5225 Our elders didn't think they would be so generational!
From what I remember, Countdown had been ABBA's earliest champion in Australia, and the show's kid brigade were busy getting those songs into high chart positions. Skyhooks, Sherbet and William Shakespear (aka John Cave) were also beneficiaries of this system. I think Countdown got a bit sour with ABBA because they didn't appear on the show when doing their '76 Aussie promo tour. Instead, they were coming on shows on other networks like Bandstand and The Don Lane Show (???), which then led to some pushback from the Countdown camp. These are, of course, old memories. What I do remember is that the band always seemed to be in the number one chart position, and any other artist that knocked them off the top spot would be quickly knocked down by the next ABBA single.
I also remember that ''make Mamma Mia a single'' petition.
6:43 'that was acrazy last note"...lol,totally1That one as well as one more time in '"Hole in your soul" either studio version or even Live. These girls really kicked a@&!Btw this gig took place during a thunderous rainstorm with people getting wet and muddy but they would no way leave the stadium cause Abba playede 'Rain or shine" and people wanted them one way or another.I guess no one has regreted attending this electric concert!
Hi there!
Someday try 'Kisses of fire' 'Lovers (live a little longer)' ... two songs in the same video... (one lead by Agnetha and the other by Frida)...Really awesome!
Also i suggest: 'The King has lost his crown ', 'Tropical Loveland', 'One man one woman'... (some hidden gems of 🅰️🅱️🅱️🅰️)
Take care, guys!
Greetings ❤ from Chile 🇨🇱🤗👍
Ahhh!I'll deff go for 'Kisses of fire" but from the popular BBC special 'ABBA in Swizerland' show(with Agnetha's dazzling first 40 seconds) and the fabulous, sophisticated but underated 'One Man One Woman" such a glorious delivery by Frida.
Well done Jay for this suggestion. I recall seeing this on UK tv in the late 70s but could be wrong. Great vocals as always as the melodies are instant hook worms - good lyrics as well about city life paranioa. At my Junior school in 77 they held discos for 10 year olds. 2 bands were always requested: ABBA and the Sex Pistols. Only one got played....
You’re welcome Damien 😅.. I’d have been that guy asking for Holidays in the sun NOT this belter 👀
👍🏴
Jeez C n C , look at the humongous views and comments generated for this banger from this great band ! I was t expecting that and thank you again for reacting on a sixpence like that - respect ✊
Can I make a suggestion ? No pressure 😀.. instead of just a random 2 songs from random 2 folk on Mondays , maybe get all the regulars who’ve en masse chipped in today put in a request for ANY 3 songs they want ? No matter if you know them or not ! And ask them to say WHY those tracks were important to them ?
Youve just passed 10k subscribers , I bet making this PRIZE available on a quiet day like Monday will explode in popularity and allow us to get to know each other a little better and hear more than likely songs we’ve never heard before !
Let me know what you think 👏

US respond to super-group Abba was kinda "so-so", compared to the rest of the world. It was Canada and even more Latin America who got hooked on them.Latin American countries esp.since 1979 after the release of the Spanish version of the single 'Chiquitita"(an unpreceded monstrous hit there) and then the Spanish album.
I missed out on the ABBAmania in Australia during the second half of the 70's, because I was living in England and only returned to Australia in 1979. ''Voulez-Vous'' and ''Does Your Mother Know'' were the hits in Australia when I came home, and a lot of kids saw them as uncool. In England, they were just a popular pop band from Sweden. In Australia, their name was met with slight snickering and dismissiveness. That's when I learned the ABBA craze was well and truly over, and that they were a thing to tolerate rather than love.
Interestingly enough, Agnetha Fältskog is a "tiger" on the Chinese Zodiac........and I happen to be one also. 🐯
Every time you turned on the radio or TV in Australia in the mid 70s ABBA was on it. My sister who was 10 years younger was absolutely hooked on them while I just thought that they were cringeworthy. At around 18 we liked to think of ourselves as having that rebellious drug ,sex, rock and roll type mentality that had come out of the 60s and ABBA didnt fit the mould. Nowadays when I hear their music it actually makes me feel a little bit nostalgic. As I got older I learned to appreciate all genres of music which is something that I never thought would happen way back then.
Love this song and live performance of it ! .. Such an electric atmosphere .. Luckily it wasn't literally electric, as there was heavy rain falling, and the stage did indeed get wet .. It was a potentially very dangerous situation for all on it, and with today's more rigid health and safety standards, the show would likely not have gone on .. Thanks Jay, for the great suggestion ! 👍👍👍
😉✔️

Right after Abba broke up Frida worked with Phil Collins on an excellent track called There's Something Going On. I prefer it over Abba.
It was written by Russ Ballard.
@thunderspike1892 I like I Don't Believe In Miracles from an early Colin Bluestone album .. He didn't write Hold Your Head Up though .. Rod did that.
@@davidellis5141 And I Surrender (Rainbow), Since You Been Gone (Rainbow), On The Rebound (Uriah Heep) So You Win Again (Hot Chocolate), God Gave Rock 'n'Roll To You (Kiss )and New York Groove (Sweet/Ace Frehley) to mention a few. The mentioned artists did covers but you probably already knew that 😀
A less-well-known track packed with hooks ❤
The instrumental/harmonies of the title track, Arrival, is very moving 😊
Their live shows were amazing
I prefer the studio version of this song. The live version has a whole verse missing. Like much of ABBA, this song is light and bubbly in the music, but the lyrics are quite dark. Definitely look up the lyrics and you'll see what I mean. If you like the last note from Agnetha here, definitely listen to the studio version, she goes even higher in the fade-out part.
This will be the third week of me asking for this song, and possibly a year since I first made the request for Richard Clapton - Girls On The Avenue Antipodes channel. Please?
I've been asking for some Dicky Clap for a long time and I have not yet gotten my Dicky Clap.
If you don't know it check out Rock Me Live with Björn Ulvaus on vocals
Jay would have been a Countdown kid if he grew up in Australia. 🤫🐕
Go easy on the fella Gillian. Go easy. Just because he likes ABBA doesn't mean he needs to be pinned with a Countdown badge. lol
He would probably get acosted by a Kangaroo.
@@SPKdesign1 The kangaroos weren't the problem. Nobody wanted to be accosted by the Countdown kids. They could be pretty scary and even violent. I'm an old punk rocker.. I'm not going to go there..
😝 we’ll never know Gillian .. but I’m def not ruling it out 😆

This proves beyond doubt that C n C DO read the comments 😅..
Dog in Space and I were just chatting about stuff and I mentioned to him about this track from the film that was made about ABBA’s enormously successful tour back then , I then asked for the track as “ if you don’t ask you don’t get ! “.. well I DID ask and I DID get !!
Cheers 🍻 C n C .
Ive had a 50 years this year unrequited lust , love and admiration for Agnetha ( the Blonde one 😅 ) beyond her physical beauty though , her sheer vocal abilities shine like a distant super nova , add her partner Anna-frid , who superbly blends her own talented singing as well as the 2 gifted songwriters who gave them some of the 20th century’s best pop music to sing then no wonder I have them on my playlist next to The Damned and The Sex Pistols ….
Never thought I’d EVER say , thank phook for Eurovision 😳

I had the hots for Frida!!!
@@DogInSpace😝 and I can TOTALLY understand that tbh .. they were both talented n drop dead gorgeous 👏

100% agree, Jay ! .. With both your adoration for everything about Agnetha ( her beauty, personality and talent ), and your appreciation for the magnificent repertoire of classic pop ( and rock ) songs that ABBA were responsible for .. Like you, I play heaps of ABBA regularly, along with my favourite artists from the punk / post-punk / new wave era.
@@wayne_twentyfive cheers Wayne , having a broad pallete for music is essential I think , imagine going to fancy restaurants and insisting you only want plain chicken all the time 😳..no , you want to get head first into the taster menu n try EVERYTHING just in case you find something else you like .. in my case it was ABBA and warm pear , ham and avocado salad with a Balsamic drizzle and light sheen of Parmesan 😀

ABBA were influenced by the early 1970's Euro-pop group "Middle of the Road", have you haerd any of their songs?
MOTR were a big hype in the very early '70s pretty much in European markets. Some solid Abba influences(mostly according the band's songwritters in their own words -Benny and Bjorn),The Beatles, heavily The Beach Boys, rock n roll, folk music,Italian songs,French chansons,Schlager,'70s Bee Gees, Glam rock,The Mamas and the Papas,Stevie Wonder.
I had completely forgotten this song existed.
You should do something from The Visitors, album, its their break up record. Its brutal!
I do not think the lyrics are weird. It exactly what I expext a Tiger to do to me if it found me wandering in the wild in Africa. I love walking out in nature when I can but I never going to Africa because it just too dangerous with so many animals that will kill you. Same in your neck of the woods in Canada with big bears. When I have walked out in nature in Australia I have never had the fear of some big wild animal that can stalk me and kill me. Mind you, I not ventured too many times way up north where Crocodiles in water can kill you so there is parts of Australia I would not be so care free in the wild here. There also some weird crazy big bird up in Northern Queensland that makes me never want to walk out there. Tigers thankfully not here in the wild but this song lyrics is exactly what they would be if they wanted to stalk you.
Fit? As the say in the granite, im afraid the cat has well and truly got ma fingers 🏴✌️
This wasn't requested by one of our Countdown kids? Oh no.. Next OnceWasRStrathfield's gonna insist we check out some old Jason Donovan bangers! 😂🤣😂

Ironic that in background your own little tiger is making his voice heard. I am behind you, I always find you, I am your little tiger. Now bloody feed me.....
Just as I was answering to JAY about Sex Pistols, this comes up... I strongly disliked ABBA when they were around because Australia became ABBAnation in the 70's.. Thank you Countdown.
Australian pop show Countdown pushed ABBA very hard and the country ate it all up. You got Countdown kids to thank for that song ''Mama Mia'' being a single. It was only released as a single in Australia because of a country wide petition conducted by those kids. After it got to # 1 in Australia, ''Mama Mia'' was released as a single world wide. Australia also turned against ABBA after the band scored six # 1's in Australia in '75/'76.. I don't know this song, but the scenes of the crowd take me back to those days... cringe.
ABBA made good music, by the way.
I did nothing more than sign my name on that petition. That was the only thing the kids did to get an ABBA song to be more than just an album cut with a cool video. ABBA didn't need Countdown or the kids to be played on radio in Australia in 1976. Almost everyone bought their albums and singles between 1975 to 1978.
It was a little different in 1974, because Countdown was ABBA's biggest advocate in Australia. But that all changed the following year
@@liveitup67 That's right. ABBA were known in 1974 for ''Ring Ring'', ''Waterloo'' and ''Honey Honey''. Countdown played their videos and was drumming hype around them. But I think the ABBAmania thing took full flight when ''Mama Mia'' got to number one in Australia.
Did you see ABBA in concert when they came here?

It’s bizarre DIS , entering never mind winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 should’ve been an instant career killer .. but this was lightning in a bottle from the get go . Wow, Wow, Wow. You guys could not be more wrong on more things. You broke a record. These performances from "Abba the Movie" were live concerts from Australia. NOT movie sets. Also, the lyrics are not about a woman "standing" behind her man. It was about the level of anxiety living in a big city can bring. Go listen to "On and On and On". Because I can go on and on and on about how off base this reaction was.
What a throw back, not the best tune for me.
