We had this at my high school every Wednesday a long time ago, we just called it beef gravy(genaric name)with mashed potatoes and pea’s and carrot’s on the side. I was always excited for Wednesday because i knew I would be full until i got home.
I prefer making hamburger patties With my 1 lb. ground meat and making Gravy, I use onions and bell peppers I serve over rice or mashed potatoes I buy chuck roast @ $3.99 lb And my husband grinds it I know it’s pure beef
My mother cooked that when we were young. She just added green bell pepper in big pieces so we call pull them out because the young ones did not like biting into the peppers. LOL😆 But it was delicious. This brought back memories.
Oh Donna my mom raised six boys and three girls and this was one of her easy inexpensive meals to feed us all😊delicious Also she was big on gravy’s over homemade biscuits ,tomatoe gravy, brown gravy, coffee gravy, sausage gravy, ect 😂 Thanks for a wonderful memory 😊
Every time it was on the menu at school I wanted to eat school lunch. They called it Potato Turbate, my mom made it and my dad called it S@*t on a shingle. He called chipped beef, the same thing. Thank you Miss Donna for the fond memories.I had forgotten about it and now I'm going to make some this week you can count on it. ❤
Good Morning my Donna💕I just bought a large amount of Hamburger meat and making up my meal plans for the week so this comes at a needed time-THANK YOU AND IT LOOKS DELICIOUS 😅
Ms Donna I LOVE hamburger gravy haven't had it in years. I remember growing up my dad would make the family hamburger gravy to help stretch our meals and we would have it with rice and biscuits or egg noodles. I have a lot of ground beef in my freezer right now I will make your hamburger gravy with mashed potatoes for dinner this week. Thanks for sharing!
Hey you were lucky if you had mashed potatoes. Sometimes we had bread. But hamburger gravy was always a happy occasion. Funny when i became an adult with my child, I thought it was not very good.
Now this is the way to do a video. You didn't pad it with a dorkey intro, excessive demonstration of chopping skills, etc. I enjoy and appreciate all I learn from all the videos I watch, but most of the time I have to sit through 10 minutes of fluff for 3 minutes of useful information. Thank you very much.
My daddy always made this for us. It sure did stretch a dollar with eight kids. It sure was hard on Mama and Daddy😔to us This was eating at a five star restaurant We absolutely loved it and still do.❤️
@CookingWithDonna Hello, Donna!🙋♀️ I made your hamburger gravy last night!!! OMG!! So good! Real comfort food!! Tastes like Salisbury Steak but without the work of making patties. My sore hands appreciated this dish. Even my picky 25 year old son ate it up. So did my husband. I froze the leftover and will make it again, soon. It is so hot here, in NY that I really don't want to turn the oven on. This was the perfect dinner!!😋😁👍 Thanks again for that recipe!!!🥰
It’s sad how many speak on this dish being budget friendly. While it might be it’s honestly just really good. You just can’t go wrong with meaty gravy and starch.😂
This is what I made for dinner😂 I put some mushrooms in it too. I couldn't help but laugh we cooked the same thing today❤ I love hamburger gravy I just made rice with mine. the potatoes looked better that's for sure❤❤ thanks for all your recipes Donna y'all have a great Sunday evening❤😊❤
Awww... That juice and fat was also part most nutritional portion of the dish.. gravy made from that would be better for you than any canned beef broth.. people were taught wrong on natural fat... Looks good though!
My advice is to just get a can of mushroom soup. Just fry up the hamburger with some onions, and the soup concentrate. I make mushroom soup sloppy joes out of that. Get over it Man!
There were 5 kids in our family. My mom had to make everything go a long way. We had hamburger gravy on toast every week. We all loved it. Still do.
We ate it over toast as well and still do❤️
I had 7 sisters and1 brother whenever went hungry.
Oh hell yeah Donna!! I’m thinking open faced sandwhich with this 😎
Yes indeed!❤️
Ate this in school in the late50's and early 60's , had it on mashed potato's. Wife and I still make it, good comfort food.
Definitely comfort food❤️😋
On garlic toast...mmmm!
My school cafeteria served this in the 70s over instant mashed potatoes. We loved it!!
Good stuff❤️
Yes!
School lunch was awesome back then!
My middle school served it in the 1960’s, might have been a cheap meal but was one of my favorites too!

With a side of green beans.
Yes indeed ❤️
Save 50% on the cost of beef by using ground pork. Works perfectly over potatoes, rice, or pasta.
Thank you for sharing ❤️

If your in hard enough times you don't get rid of the rendered fat you utilize every last bit of everything
❤️
So true
Unfortunately ground beef aint cheap anymore 😢.
It definitely has gotten pricey 😕
I use ground pork as a sub for beef in many recipes...including burgers. I like it just as well. (pork is half the cost of beef)
Tell CURTIS to run to McDonalds and get some FAKE food!....lol
🤣😂
