I am super happy to be at a gym where we have all of these things.
Also, when you were talking about curriculum I couldn't help but think how we made a meme of our coach constantly talking about the 12 week curriculum rotations.

My gym's primary Muay Thai coach is also studying to be an English teacher and even what he's learned in education classes so far seems to make a difference compared to how he ran classes before. While he's training in Thailand and waiting for a fight, one coach works as a school teacher for his day job and the other has at least one PhD so he's spend time teaching undegrads at the very least. None of them have the former pro fighter that recommended them as his replacement when he moved but newer students do seem to have a better retention of knowledge now than they did with the former coach. There's going to be a limit to what people can learn from the current two coaches compared to the former coach and the one in Thailand right now and those will have more limits than a world champion, but most students aren't at a level where that's going to matter. Knowing the intricacies a champion developed in their career isn't so important when someone's still working on the more universal and basic stuff.
We aren't big enough to have separate classes for different levels on a consistent basis, but it did feel like the head coach had individual lesson plans for each student that he'd want us to practice during padwork.

I've had both teaching styles of a 1 week/1 month "unit" and a different lesson everyday, I like training something different every day. A long unit style gets kind of boring doing the same series whereas you'll soon enough continue training a technique you covered a previous day ago

The lack of a structured curriculum drives me crazy.

I train out of Sitan gym and they do not have a curriculum. I see there are many champions fighting out of the gym but I do wonder I maybe I should look at other options. I sometimes feel like the gym should do more sparring.

I'm on the fence about the curriculum. I've trained at very famous gyms that made champions, both in grappling and striking arts, and those never had curriculums either. This is a new trend that I've been seeing at modern gyms, and it is an application of modern pedagogical knowledge to the teaching of martial arts, but I remember for a long time it was thought to be an aspect of McDojos. I can see how it can help, especially if you have a single consistent group pf students. But I also miss the lack of structure from the old style of teaching whatever the teacher feels like/thinks the students need to learn that day.
