You cracked me up with that subscribe percentage pop up. I was one of the 83%, but subbed for you guys. David is incredible. As far as the mic trick he does, he does it both ways--physically with his voice and also where he just uses the distance with the mic. It just depends on what he's going for in each situation. There are even times when in acapella with others where he'll stand further away from the mic because he knows for the note he's about to hit, he has to use a lot of power and doesn't want to blow away the other vocalists. He really is a master at his voice and using the microphone. I love it when he hits some awesome note when the music cuts out and they put on an echo, and the echo fades out... brings chills. You gotta see him live in concert. It's unreal.

Your story about going all the way around the tent to try and find a way in reminded me of another Biblical truth. It is written that he is last shall be first. Years ago, my wife, niece and I travelled from Pawtucket or Providence, Rhode Island to the Worchester Centrum to go to a Gaither Homecoming Concert. The traffic was brutal getting there, but we made it. By thevtime we got in the line to get in, we were more than 3/4's of the way around the building. We figured the Concert 6:10 would be starting by the time we got in. Then all of a sudden they opened the back doors to lett people that had tickets in. So you seee, the last will be first and we proclaimed it to they joy of a bunch of Amens

As far as I know he has never formally taught vocal lessons. He did start his 4 kids out singing. They would all sing in the car, especially on the way to church, he would start a song and each child would jsut grab a part and sing a long. but eventually a couple of them went to a professional vocal coach. His two daughters sang back up for him for years. Now the oldest daughter still sings back up. Yes, David is classically trained. He was even invited by New York Vocal Coaching to do a series of sessions, about 9, on various vocal techniques!
