  • Pulling and pushing the metal back into shape. This rough work is critical for allowing the new parts to fit correctly. A body shop would cut the bent panels out and weld new ones in save time and better ensure success, but the cost is significant. Since my time is "free" (it's a hobby) and I do not have the proper tools and experience to replace these panels, repair is the better option.

Your doing great on both the repair and the content. It’ll be nice to have an aux port or Bluetooth when you go out with the top down, you can use your phone instead of the CD. My 2002 was never driven in snow, it’s a MN. car but original owner took it to Scottsdale or Naples for winters. I wish I had the aux. port and Bluetooth but they didn’t include those till 2005. You’ll get yours sorted out and take it out on warm evening drives and your hard work will be rewarded. I can’t wait to get mine out of storage on April 7th. In MN we really don’t get convertible weather until late May-June so I’ll do some tinkering while I’m waiting. It’s time for a new timing belt this year due to years, 90k miles or 10 years and it was done early at 70k miles but it’s been 10 years, only has 50k miles on this belt. Did replacement of dry rotted speaker foam 4 years ago when I purchased the car, unusual 8ohm speakers used, better to keep proper speakers made for the system and not damage the Mark Levinson amp. There are a couple TH-cam videos on the subject of fixing the foam.

You are not missing anything regarding the AUX. My car does not have it either, so I need to use a bluetooth tape adapter. There is a kit for the 2005+ to add AUX/bluetooth, but it's not cheap. Somehow, my speakers are still intact too.

Exactly! I've already told my 9 and 7 year old that they are going to get this car when I die some day. :)

I own one of these cars ... The one thing you will be surprised with is when you want to to take all the interior pieces out to clean and restore ..it's so easy, I wish my mk stereo worked.

I'm glad to hear that! The ecru leather in my car has grime in the areas that are not very reachable. There are also some scuffs on the edges in some parts. Taking the parts out will really help. Did you use any leather paint products to repair damage? The stereo in your SC doesn't work? Mine works, but I'm thinking of replacing it with an Android Auto compatible unit. I use Spotify exclusively, and the sound quality is unimpressive through the tape adapter. I also miss the integration between the phone and the audio system that my Avalon Hybrid Limited had.

Hi everyone! I ran into a major roadblock that almost killed this project, so that, along with the cold winter, meant I didn't get out to work on the car much.... Until now! I'm going to try and get some updates posted ASAP.

I now have EVERY part I need to complete the car, so have a very good estimate for total cost of the car now. I will have a cost breakdown in a future video, but I am currently at $11,700. I have not been able to find a similar 2006+ that could be shipped to my door for under $15,000, but I've only seen clean titles for sale and they have not had dings and dents in the front like mine had. These cars are rare in the north, so you typically need to factor in shipping to find a good one. Market wise, I'm definitely in the red on this car, so I'm glad I'm keeping it and not selling.
