The footage looks great! The only thing I could think to add to this set up would be some black fabric/duvatine to the ground underneath the talent just to prevent green light bouncing up into the skin tones. Not a huge issue in your shot but that’s what I’d do differently :) awesome vid and i learned a lot otherwise! Thanks!
The only thing I would change about this setup is the height and angle of the kicker. Because it looks to be about even in height with the guy's head in the sample footage, you get the little cut of light on his neck from the collar shadow. It's small but a noticeable detail. If you raise the kicker a few feet and angle it down it'll look more like the sun on his back and less of an unnatural source.
It's interesting I've always used them that way because it just gives you a bit more flexibility in fine tuning the light position with the ability to boom it out or place the light maybe where a stand can't directly sit under it. But all the other things he mentioned are also great points that I've never explicitly thought about.
This was awesome! Would love to see like a more budget oriented (battery powered lights, one camera, not any negative fills or anything yet) style for a similar setup. I’ve been upgrading my gear, but am not at this level, yet! Awesome behind the scenes though man!!
Great breakdown, nice shot as well! I think I would've put the hairlight a bit higher to remove the shadow of the collar on the neck. All by all very pleasing look! Great job man
Great tip with the c-stand! I was thinking that maybe if you wanted any further negative fill that you could perhaps have used the solid like a floppy at 90° to give more shadow from overhead on camera side. You would likely have to then clamp down the floppy to avoid it coming into your shot with wind, but this is just overthinking how to do anything at all slightly different. I think the setup and result was very nice, especially for one person crew. Well done and thank you for sharing!
Thanks for the video! Nice clean set up and your sample footage proves it. The only difference I would have made would be to have a good lighting tech (Grip) on set to make sure everything stays safe throughout the day. I've seen stuff go over when that unexpected wind gust comes outta nowhere.
I really dig big setups like this, but I would have never expected the final frame to look as good as it ended up! Awesome shot, the only thing I'd adjust is the height of the 600d, it creates a somewhat unflattering shadow on the subject's neck because of the high collar. Regarding tips, I agree with Robert about the pop-up tent, can't have the interviewer get a sunburn. 😛Also, using the grip arm as a baby pin is fine for vertical setups like you show here, but don't use the grip arm as a horizontal overhead baby pin as it doesn't have a safety catch and lights might fall off quite easy.
Awesome! Did you notice the harsh line on his neck from the hair/kicker light? Pop that light up another foot or two and it would've been gone. The look you got out of camera is really nice.
I love those Sidio crates on the cart! I might try placing two of my crates w/lids on the top of the cart and then placing a piece of wood on top and make a desk out of it. Hmmm, it got me thinking. As usual, thanks for sharing!
This is a BEAUTIFUL shot! I love everything about it. One thing I noticed is something I started doing, which is setting my Rim Light up high to eliminate the straight line shadow on the neck. it started to get distracting once i go back to edit. But this is great man. I need to get me an 8x8
LOVE this setup. I need to get the 8x8 frame to use the diffusion for outdoor filming. I've been loving the 8x8 cloth for interior interviews, but I wasn't sure what frame I wanted to get yet. Which do you use?
Nice , don't think I would have used that kicker though , pretty hard / shiny on his cheek , negates most of the neg fill , and really outside not needed , there is only one sun :) . Just my 2 cents since you asked in the video .
Talent looks really nicely lit with this set up! But I noticed he's squinting a lot. Anyone know how that could be fixed? Maybe a backdrop behind the interviewer so they aren't staring into the bright daylight?
That's a big set for a one man band! Great stuff! I'm going to remember the c-stand tip.

The overhead silk is epic!
Footage looks awesome, I like how you tweak it for each person too. It honors them in the process.
I appreciate that! Thanks so much for watching!
What about a pop up tent for u n your interviewee and the cameras stay cool !

Killer setup!! There's no way I would wrangle that setup without one or more assistants. You're a rockstar! -AW
Footage looks pristine.
The c-stand tip is the greatest piece of knowledge you've shared! Love it!

loved the fact that you stepped out of the safe zone... no shades to start you created everything
Footage is beautiful bro. Thanks so much for sharing your setup.
Nice setup. The footage is impeccable.
Awesome setup! How do you deal with light (sun) changes? ... pause/set, keep rolling/fix in post? ... Thanks!

That shot looks great. I need to pick up an 8x8.

A 6x6 is my go-to. I don't feel comfortable with a big 8x when doing solo work and a 6x fits nicely in most vehicles.
@@evanthecameraman I gotcha. I was thinking about making one but didnt want to look too amateurish
great breakdown, I still need to add a 1200d to my kit
Looks great bud! Good Work.
That footage is money!
Wow effect with the cstand tips! 👏🏻
Nice set up!!!
This is an awesome setup 😮
I would love to see how it looks with different light on, off and without anything.

Nice setup! How long did it take you?
What's the name of the part holding the overhead diffusion? Is it like a double headed super clamp? Can that be purchased individually?
I mean I would try to use a couple smaller diffusions for above the head just for ease but thats about it.
Do yo shit My boy!
bro how have I never thought of turning the arm upside down like that

What did you use to power your lights
