It's most definitely all relative. For our production crew, low budget is £200-250,000 or about $260-320,000 US. For someone else, it could be as low as £4-5,000, as per Christopher Nolan's first feature, which I believe set him back around $6,000. As long as you're focussing on story and bringing something compelling to the screen, your budget could be £1,000 and I'd happily sit glued to the screen to watch it.
Looks really great! I think your "messy" bounces on the ceiling give an authentic light vs the sometimes contrived, "clean", look when you know they just had 30 sky panels on the ceiling. Impressive to see how it looks with such a modest studio. No doubt someone also did an amazing job with the set pieces.
I know these actors! I didn't know you were on this. I am a Oklahoma Cinematographer and have been following you for years! Jonah says he loves working with you. so cool to see this.
I’m gearing up to direct my first feature in December. It’s stressful because I’m self-funding what I can and pulling a ton of favors, but this BTS gives me a ton of inspiration and energy to make it all happen!
i really like how minimalistic it is. You can see its not a hollywood budget film by their set and equipment and nevertheless the result speaks for itself. Its nice to see the evolution of technology 😋
Huge congrats buddy. It’s fantastic watching your talent be recognized. You’ve gotten really good really fast and we’ve learned a lot from you along the way.
Your use of a volume wall is executed well here and in a very minimal nature, which makes the production very effective in telling an isolated story. I’m noticing a jib being operated at the beginning of this video - I actually own the same one! it’s a very sturdy piece of equipment.
I've been doing my own short film stuff recently with a focus on War/weapons content myself and this video is amazing, thanks for making it and ty TY algorithm for suggesting it to me. really sparks my neurons and gives me ideas! I'm not a professional by any means compared to you but this is fantastic use of technology. Especially facinates me about using UE for the backscreen, especially since I've built maps in UE before. Now i want a studio like this haha. looking forward to seeing how the film turns out!
Am so in stocked with this. Am happy for you... So much challenges so much fun. Am saving up to put up something like this. But never thought of the LCD screen.. will just use green & blue screens.
Nice to see such in depth BTS. Bit of an off type question, but where can I find that sunhood you used for your SmallHD 702, as the original one basically broke after a few shoots. Also seeing this mini volume & using Antilency set up, does the director of this have more in depth about this set up? Thanks heaps :)
Great looking stuff. I'm curious as to why there is a TC1 timecode box going into the slate when the slate itself has the same clock and syncs to the app
Add a capacitor to the driver output of the wall LEDs. Should kill the flicker. Unless the the problem is actual data refreshing on the screen. if that's the case, not much I know that can help.
Inspiring! Can you actually talk a bit more about the virtual production part? Like did you rent the walls, what kind of a PC setup you used and did you track the camera for live background? I see that on 13:40 you tracked the camera!
the only critique is that it just looks to clean and modern for a war film. But thats all modern films with their over resolutioned looks. super smart way to make a war film.
Woah. How did you use a laptop for and LED Virtual production? Did you really use that? Or a desktop. Can i have more info on the PCs that were used here.
Question: when you use the focal reducer with a full frame lens, is the circle of confusion the same characteristic as without the focal reducer (while keeping the same aperture of course)❓
best video best cinematography plz im short film writer wanna be maker but dont know which camera is best according my budget plz suggest me best automatically cinematical view camera waiting 4 ur reply (15 thousand to 30k 35thousand budget luv u from PAKISTAN

ok lowbudget guy lol
Awesome looking stuff! Excited to see the final film!
damn LOL mega rubbish
I'd love to know what the budget was for a film like this? Looks incredible!
Your idea of low budget is wayyyyyyy different than mines. LMAO
welcome to film bud
Scale matters. Compared to other world war movies, this is not even a 10th of the budget of those. So by all means this is a low budget movie.
It's most definitely all relative. For our production crew, low budget is £200-250,000 or about $260-320,000 US. For someone else, it could be as low as £4-5,000, as per Christopher Nolan's first feature, which I believe set him back around $6,000.

@@kris4637 Perfectly put. If we look at, for example, 1917, and the scale and depth of that film, this would indeed be very low budget.
Low budget isn't no budget lol
The set dressing looks really good!
It’s amazing how much set design plays a part for cinematic imaging
Looks really great! I think your "messy" bounces on the ceiling give an authentic light vs the sometimes contrived, "clean", look when you know they just had 30 sky panels on the ceiling. Looks fantastic. If you didn’t tell me that you used a video-wall, I wouldn’t have even known. It really looks that good. Bravo!!!
Nice 🤩, thanks for the BTS. I'm glad you've reached this stage in your career.
Amazing stuff. Can’t wait to see it. I got to shoot my 1st feature last year. 100 pages in 10 days 💀 but it was worth every second.
I’m gearing up to direct my first feature in December. It’s stressful because I’m self-funding what I can and pulling a ton of favors, but this BTS gives me a ton of inspiration and energy to make it all happen!
For a first feature, the shots look amazing.
More power to you Spenser ❤❤❤
Looking really good. It takes a village. Great work, guys!
Good job Spencer, looks like a lot of fun. Glad you're using your own kit, it's more than capable enough and you know it well.
😍😍😍 Flat Out Beautiful, Such a Canvas You Got There Can’t Wait To See The Finished Product!
i really like how minimalistic it is. You can see its not a hollywood budget film by their set and equipment and nevertheless the result speaks for itself. Its nice to see the evolution of technology 😋
Love it. Very cool! Love that use of the Rock-n-roller cart as a dolly!
Bro’s vibe is totally Deakins, and I’m here for it.
Pretty cool BTS and analysis Spenser!
Huge congrats buddy. It’s fantastic watching your talent be recognized. You’ve gotten really good really fast and we’ve learned a lot from you along the way.
Bro this is so badass. Happy for you

Amazing! Congrats on all y’all’s hard work!
Looks fantastic Spencer! Proud to have your talent here! Cannot wait to see this film!
These clips look fantastic!
You should make a stormtrooper imperial perspective in a battle in the trenches using the same techniques you did for this film!
Looks amazing. Looking forward to seeing it.
This is amazing work! super excited to see your breakdowns and the movie itself! it looks interesting!
This looks awesome work, well done! I'm intrigued to know more about the LED wall, who supplies it? It's a great alternative to volume!
I've been doing my own short film stuff recently with a focus on War/weapons content myself and this video is amazing, thanks for making it and ty TY algorithm for suggesting it to me. really sparks my neurons and gives me ideas!

So stoked!
when he says 'low budget' every time I got shot my heart .
It’s low I swear.
Am so in stocked with this. Am happy for you... So much challenges so much fun.
Am saving up to put up something like this. But never thought of the LCD screen.. will just use green & blue screens.
This is the coolest thing ever.
Good for you brother!
Classic apple boxes for dolly shots !!
looks good only thing i noticed is a lack of wide shots but i understand with the set
Looks great man, well freaking done.

Really cool man, congrats!
Looks Great. Nice job!

Really cool stuff!
Stunning and Cinematic, what is the title, where can i watch this film, will it be available on TH-cam?
Thank you for the bts
You are amazing buddy 🎉
Looks amazing. How was the focus pro working for you?
Looking great keep it up!
Congractulations.
the only critique is that it just looks to clean and modern for a war film. But thats all modern films with their over resolutioned looks. super smart way to make a war film.
It’s a creative choice. There is no right way to do it.
Sick
Awesome !!!!!!!
Great video!
Dude this looks better than that film with that guy who shot for YOU using Venice.
Good on you.😊
I would love to take place in an acting feature film of yours!
Very interesting. Roger that.
Woah. How did you use a laptop for and LED Virtual production? Did you really use that? Or a desktop. Can i have more info on the PCs that were used here.
Awesome, Spencer! Is this stage a permanent installation, and if so, where is it? How do we get in touch with them?
The trenches could be available! I’ll get you an email

Question: when you use the focal reducer with a full frame lens, is the circle of confusion the same characteristic as without the focal reducer (while keeping the same aperture of course)❓
Yeah basically. In practice it feels like you’re 1 stop closed down compared to full frame. Nothing to fret at all.
Love Budget? you have a make shift volume haha What was your budget my guy? Also did you make the LED wall?
Imagine if all the war world pictures we have where taken in a garage with great lighting 😂
Are you using in-camera LUTs in the komodo? Your monitor looked pretty moody, was that just from lighting and lensing or a custom LUT in camera?
custom LUT always. treat it like a film stock
How did you produce that? A film company put the budget, crew and gear or was that all by yourself?
I was hired in through a production company
Do you have a 'clear scan' option for shutter speed?
best video best cinematography
