      @Joe Blow It's even stranger when you live in Australia like me and hear people that have learned english as a second language but been taught to pronounce things with an American accent, in a country where that accent is jarring at the best of times

    • @EvenTheDogAgrees
      @EvenTheDogAgrees 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@samcawley7608 Well, kinda makes sense. Who's the #1 exporter of English language entertainment in the world? Hollywood. We are simply exposed to American accents more than any other.
      I try to speak British whenever I speak English, but I'm pretty sure it's probably closer to a mish-mash between British and American. With the occasional Australian sprinkled in, and a Flemish accent layered on top. ;)

      It really can't be overstated how awful the original localization was. Much of the game really is just one level above unintelligible gibberish.
      The better fonts and spacing also makes the menus soooooo much better.

    That Super Ghouls N Ghosts fix is a dream come true for me. I'm definitely going to have to check that out.

    • @Rodzilla97
      @Rodzilla97 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      yes i love that it was fixed legit too, and can run on a real snes, and no special chip was used (although i do think using the SA-1 chip is legit too as long as it can run on a real snes, because it was a snes chip used from those days. but people should try to fix slowdown without a chip first. i bet the bad programming prevented Gradius 3 from being fixed without the SA-1, but i feel the snes could run it without the chip, if the team who made rendering ranger r2 or space megaforce did it). i consider super ghouls n ghost and Gradius 3 officially fixed (think of it as a DLC patch, becuase it can run on real hardware) amazing. i just wish developers would start making new snes games, and make a proper final fight, 2 players, 5 on screen enemies, no slowdown, etc. i don'y know why companies don't make games for these systems as popular as they still are

    • @Rodzilla97
      @Rodzilla97 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      i think the guy who fixed Gradius 3 might be working on Contra 3 now. he's working on a cool mario game too i believe, that has tons of sprites on screen at once, and maxed out huge bullet bills, etc on screen with the SA-1 chip

    • @Rodzilla97
      @Rodzilla97 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @Apharmd Battler Final Fight 1 is what i'm talking about. FF2 kinda sucks imo and isn't worth saving. with the right creator/delevoper, it can be done. Turtles in Time can get 2 players, 4 foot soldiers, and 5 mousers all on screen at once, with no slowdown. Rendering Ranger R2 and Space megaforce as well does stuff that's well beyond 5 on screen enemies for FF1. the snes is capable(and these games even with the screwed up coding can be fixed with the SA-1 chip) super ghouls n ghosts was fixed without the help of a chip(so the snes was always capable)

    • @Rodzilla97
      @Rodzilla97 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Apharmd Battler no, turtles in time doesn't have slowdown when you get 9 enemies on screen at once(some flicker), not even in 2 player mode. that's 11 fighting sprites at once, with no chip, and no slowdown. aside from that happening in the technodrome(and yes the mousers absolutely are supposed to come out there, and the game runs fine even if 5 come out with 4 foot soldiers, and 2 turtles), there's also the prehistoric turtlesaurus level where 4 foot soldiers and a few Dinos can be on screen at once(no slowdown), and star base has 4 foot soldiers and 4 robots at once, no slowdown. the game runs super smooth through all that. and you saying Rendering Ranger is no big deal, you're just a snes hater bad then, wtf. no sense in talking to you you'll dismiss everything. there's also pop'n twin bee, smash tv, sunset riders, super nova, firepower 2000. but you're just gonna dismiss these too, so don't bother. why are you even getting involved in this? like if you don't want any of this to happen, then go somewhere else where we're not talking about it. genesis fanboy i bet

    Maybe balance/difficulty patches are stretching yr definition of "improvement" but Chrono Trigger Level Zero is by far my favourite way to play CT. It's not a stupid grindy difficulty patch, it just disables levelling and rebalances the gameplay accordingly so that u only progress via equipment and techs. It mostly just makes the strategies that were already there more necessary. I'd definitely recommend it for anyone replaying Chrono Trigger but also maybe even for JRPG veterans playing it for the first time.

    Very good video idea and I'd like to see a sequel to this in the future! One of my favorite balance patches is one for Secret of Evermore. It works along with the 2 player patch and you might argue it makes too many changes but considering how unbalanced the game originally was, I welcome it. Some things are shared XP with certain alchemy formulas so that you have incentive to use the new spell you get rather than just using the old one forever since you invested so much time into leveling it. Just a lot more balanced in general.

  • @i.m.evilhomer5084
    @i.m.evilhomer5084 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Here's an idea that I'm surprised nobody has done. A Super Mario RPG hack or patch that fixes the various mistranslated names. For some reason, the translators for the game used the Japanese names for certain enemies items & locations, as well as weird names that always bothered me as a kid.
    For example: Yoshi's Island is referred to its then Japanese of Yo'ster isle, Cheep Cheep is Goby, Koopa Shells use their Japanese names of Nokonoko shells, Kamek (red Magikoopa) is just a nameless Magikoopa, despite referencing the events of Yoshi's Island & Exor's mouth is inexplicably called "NeoSquid".

    • @JASpiring
      @JASpiring 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The name Yoster Island was already out of date, since the Yoshi's Island game, released a year before RPG, called it Yossy Island.
      Toadstool's name should also be changed to Peach, a retcon from Super Mario 64 (which came out the same year as RPG).

    A couple of things: 1. Floating IPS is both a better BPS and IPS patcher, and that means you only need to fiddle around with one app for the majority of hacks out there (UPS and XDelta are ever more rare these days with the SNES).
    2. It's very important to look at whether the patch requires a header or not. I suggest using TUSH for adding/removing headers if it's needed to apply a patch, it's as one-click as it gets for that utility.
    3. Bsnes-mercury is completely obseleted by Bsnes HD, which is a further updated version of Bsnes that's also faster and with HD Mode 7 options. Also the SNES9x core can overclock SuperFX if your comptuer is too slow.

    There is also a cool Hardmode rom for Seiken Densetsu3, it makes enemys tougher but also makes the agi and luck stat work. In addition the equipment is more important and gives bonuses. I must say the tough mod destroys your party when unprepared, levelling is more important tough.

    You know. I found these videos today.. And honestly. Im impressed. I never really knew this was a thing. I knew you could patch games with the translations of a game. Since you cant always find the translated rom online.. well. Back when i was big on these games. .. Probably should. I still need to perfect my rom collection. But this... This is something that actualy is making me interested again in these games. Because if this can be done for some of them. Like Star Fox. That game especialy. Slow down was a big flaw of that game. As if doesnt feel.. Good to play a game that is less than 30 fps. 60 fps, sure, but for older games. 30 is the minimum atm for me. So will have to look things up. Thanks for this.

    The secret of evermore one was pretty interesting because it wasn't ever intended to be multiplayer so its quite asymmetric
    The dog tends to be quite physically durable but can't cast magic but also the players need to coordinate their sniffing to find reagents
    The dog can also leave the screen entirely which opens up some interesting gameplay possibilities

    If you ever do a sequel to this video, please talk about Stunt race FX. That game is a tragedy in the fact that nobody really got to play what the developers had in mind. It benefits from overclocking more than any other game in my opinion. A decent frame rate is what that game always deserved.

    Just a heads up for the Scrolling Fix on Secret of Mana has a game breaking bug where if you bring up your menu while one of your characters if off the screen it makes your menu enter cycle loop that you can't get out of. I had 5 breaks during the first 10 hours and lost an entire dungeon's progress twice. So I ended up removing it as awesome as it is to make the flow of the game feel better, if you need to heal on the fly and open your menu with out thinking when a character hasn't come down to your screen, you are done.

    love it when I end up with a list of new games to try from one of your videos.. the romhack recommendations are appreciated!
    I've used the superFX turbo function on MiSTer's SNES core, and it does work very well. speeds up the game a bit but thats okay because starfox is actually really easy once you learn the levels. Vitor was just talking about his interest in romhacks for the super-fx games to help speed them up without the need of emulator hacks, also. I believe his next release is Contra III for sa-1 though, so keep an eye out for that too =)
