They gave ne a ticket and cigarettes to their show when I was broke and homeless ......will always remember that....I will...always I love you guys!!!!
Yeah with those lyrics of his they are so much open to interpretation that it is definitely personal to everyone what favorites might be, and ever changing. However, if you put a gun to my head, it would probably be Cowboy Dan...
This will forever be a masterpiece. "I know I was the scout, I should have found a way out." The sense of urgency that these lyrics portray is perfectly echoed in the guitar tone and notes. They made you feel the emotion and plight of the characters in the song through their specific guitar tone and melody, and the genius of that can never be overstated. Forever a favorite.
Modest Mouse is one of the bands that continues to grow on you as it becomes the background to our lives. The transitions and layers in this song are so fn boss.
I guess I am a scout So I should find a way out So everyone can find a way out They keep us in To pull us out I'm rising up Wish I was sinking down And it's not like There was warning We were happy And it's not like There was mourning In the warning I know I am a scout I should've found a way out So everyone can find a way out I know I am a scout I should've found a way out So everyone can find a way out Instead of seeing, a neighbor out God, I wish I would've found a way out It's the last time We were happy Ever happy I know I was a scout I should've found a way out So everyone could find a way out Well I know I was a scout I should've found a way out So everyone could find a way out Well I know I was a scout I should've found a way out So everyone could find a way out
I can’t think of another song that can completely break me down before the first lyrics are even spoken. I also love how simple they are, but the overlay has such an amazing way of representing chaos/anxiety/overthinking in some of our heads
as someone whos never left their town waiting to turn 17 to leave, im going to find a way out. thank you to modest mouse for always putting my feelings into words, saw them in june, felt like being reborn
I've tried so many times to put how this song makes me feel into words and it's nearly impossible. Anytime I'm out of words to say, or hope to feel or faith to be had; when my soul doesn't connect with my head or my head to my heart or my mind to thoughts on how I feel, this song speaks exactly what I can never say. I don't know if everyone has a song like this, but I hope they do. I find a sense of comfort knowing that someone else can compose something that correlates to exactly what goes on in my heart and soul and mind, and it puts me at ease to know I'm never alone. None of us are never alone.
This song is my coping mechanism when it all becomes to much. When the darkness no one wants to hear about takes over. Not only the lyrics but sometimes more so the sounds. It may not be a song for calming but it calms me. It let's me flood everthing out and breathe even just for moments...
"I guess I am a scout, so I should find a way out. So everyone can find a way out." Holy shit some powerful lyrics right there. Rip me and my friends' aspirations. Just one of us coulda rallied the rest but nobody did. None of us even tried
So this song is drastically underrated. Absolutely phenomenal. And it always has this way of finding me when I need it in life. Like some sort of phantom tune reminding me to better my surrounding situations.
Outstanding fretwork on this one. We knew Eric and Jeremiah were brilliant at their respective instruments, but this proves Isaac is undoubtably an excellent guitarist.
"I like songs about about drifters, books about the same, they both make me feel a little less insane." Hearing our own misery in a beautiful song reminds us we're never alone in our struggles. Whatever you're going through, someone has already found a way out of. You can too. Never stop looking for the way out, alive.
It's really strange but they achieve it. Their music allows you to face your demons with your soul open. You suffer, cry and rage from the inside out, allowing you to accept everything bad human life has. It makes you embrace the darkness in your heart and mind, become one with it, and finally defeat it. Modest mouse makes you stronger and wiser the more you listen to it. At least, that's how their music works for me
Wow. Such a powerful song, it's also really sad when you notice that it symbolizes the pain we feel when we go through depression and the self inflicted pain caused by our emotions.
I was 10 feet from the left side speaker stack last night. I can still feel the bass and drums rocking my chest. One of the best musical nights of my life.
These guys are true musicians. Some bands simply just play music but these guys are amazing. One of the few non-Metal or Classical (generic title I know just lumping them all together) bands I listen to. And just awesome in concert. I thought ya it will be decent to listen to them in concert but then they started it was like WOW these guys just let it all go live.
Uhhhhh man... this brings me back and I’m so glad I went down this rabbit hole tonight and found this song again. It was just as good hearing it tonight as it was the very first time I heard it. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I heard this song for the first time when i was getting sober. After some time i begged and pleaded with my brothers to do the same, but they wouldn't listen. I thought that maybe if i just showed them how they might be able to follow me. that's what this song reminds me of. I thought maybe i could be the one who scouted out through the pain and misery and find the path out, then come back and show them the way.
i've been listening to modest mouse for more than ten years now. yet I appreciate their music more every time I listen to it. no other band has this sound.
This song always gave me the sense of overwhelming pent up anger and frustration building and seeping out as little as they dare to without exploding all at once.
I don't know how many states I've driven through blasting this song. If you're traveling alone, very tired, & need to stay alert, play this as loud as you can.
This song seemed like they were going back to their earlier stuff like "This is A Long Drive For Someone Who Has Nothing To Think About". I'm loving it.
Andrew Cameron I like that i can relate to so many lines of songs individually I like to take it as I will , sometimes if you dissect it you find the lines meant something different then you took them as but you should still like the way you interpret them to mean something to you.
I think this is the story the video is telling: one side of him wants to break free of the somberness and coldness of reality while the other, stronger side, is holding him back. I believe this because it shows him rolling out the twine, and then it shows him also, trapped and held down by the twine, showing that he is held back by himself. also, in the part when it shows him singing, he keeps almost levitating, but then coming back down.

modest mouse always has a way of having incredibly intense bass riffs, this one, convenient parking, cowboy dan, and the stars are projectors. great song, greatest band
I love how like lonesome crowded and interstate 8 a lot of songs are like three chords on the guitar and played kinda sloppy and then there's songs like this that showcase how talented of a player he really is. Incredible. I wrote a paper on them in college it was sort of like an introduction to the class to write a paper on your favorite band and I could have made that paper like 10 pages long.

Just amazing. Modest is one of the few bands that I just can't, for the life of me, pick a favorite song.

This one would be a good start, but i also love king rat... and dashboard... and little motel... and this is hard

I wish Modest Mouse knew how much I love this freaking song. This sweet bitterness in it is just damn!
Best thing about modest mouse besides their music is that fact they don't care if they make the top charts, they just do it for the music beautiful

Isaac Brock & Johnny Marr on this one
Been following Modest Mouse for over 15 years and this is still my favorite thing they ever did. Alone Down There's probably #2.
Moon and Antarctica will always be my favorite MM album, this song definitely could have been on that album it’s dark and groovy.

Modest Mouse's best song about despair and sadness. Idk how this song helps anyone get though hard times. This song is hard times.
