After the most recent double XP weekend this video rings sooo true. Buddy and I started new characters on Ragefire about 2 months ago and we put the progression grind on hold for the weekend to crank out some AA's.. EVERY decent camp in EOK had MQ bots clearing everything. We made over 2k AA's which is pretty good for just a weekend, its just frustrating knowing someone running a program did 3x times that amount while doing nothing and taking away camps from actual people playing.
I love RG, ive played EQ since 99, Tanarus before that.. Quit a few times over the years, quit the last time around 2015 and just came back last year. Discovered RG and got sucked in, all my friends quit and can be hard to find groups so RG fixed that for me... Pumps in allot of money into EQ as well trying to keep multiple accounts gold. I dont see RG as cheating, i see it as a wonderful tool for enthusiasts. We are older now, most of us dont have the time we did as kids, and again i dont see how it effects a guy states away camping his item while i do my own thing in a quiet zone. MQ for sure supports cheats, warping, slay mobs, bypass flags... RG doesnt allow that stuff.
Exactly, it's a tool to just make EQ fun to play your box group with. It's just a game, people get all worked up about it lol. I don't have much time and I certainly am not going to alt tab and act like a crazy monkey, trying to box a group of toons, that isn't fun. I haven't played in several months, but when I play again, I will certainly use RG. I wouldn't play without it now, it's soooo much more fun. I'm not bothering anyone or farming anything, just enjoying my alts in a group for exp.
Also, auto-refreshing buffs would be really nice. MQ2 is building off the deficiencies of EQ, and I don't understand why Daybreak doesn't steal those ideas and monetize them via the store.

I wish Daybreak would make auto-follow work better. That would help a lot. I don't use MQ2, but that feature is the one that tempts me the most.
It's funny how auto follow was made so a certain developer who also played, using MQ, didn't want to be noticed as easily, so he appealed down the line for it to be created out of group.
I find it useful, played this game 20 years ago, older now, friends from the past dont play, hard to find a group, I work a very odd schedule so being able to jump on for a couple hours and play my toon without spamming 5 hours that I dont have is nice. My mains are played without any help (Ranger and Bard) I see the tank and healer as a better merc, I think the problem arises when its abused. If I pull up in firefall to camp some birds for 2 hours thats all I am camping, it doesn't make your group super human, and its not as good as real players by far, atleast not the way I run it, if you get in a bad pull situation it quickly falls apart and you die because its not able to discern the situation and respond like a real player would popping necessary CD's, Roots, etc. Yes its leads to alot more deaths, but would rather die and be playing than sitting in PoK looking for group that will not come in my available play time. Also its not allowed on the TLP's nor does it work on them from my understanding so that is a non issue. Oh play a solo/moloable toon! Why? I don't want to play a necro or mage or shadowknight, I came back to play a Ranger like I did when this game first came out and for the next 6 years after. My hope is that when I hit max level that it will be easier to find a group and I don't have to play and pay for 4 gold accounts, I can just use 1, maybe 2. But if it were not for MQ I probably wouldn't be playing the game as mentioned before due to real life reasons of time availability and schedule where very few people are on when I am able to play. And I use a very vanilla version of it, so there is not warping or crazy crap like that, I set up a camp pull to camp with my bard, hit auto attack and melody key, jump over to ranger to start damage rotation or whatever I need to do. Rinse repeat.
Those are a lot of good reasons how it can be helpful, MQ does work on the TLPs, but I think these games are alive still because so many people box and play a lot of characters which is why I don't think they can really ever ban it without changing the game a lot.
@@vanman2099 I think they could make the merc tank a little tankier after 100, right now I think a shaman pet is about as strong as the merc is after 100. That would go a long way. If I played a SK with healer merc, and a beastlord with rogue merc it would be equivalent to what I can do with my current set up running mq shaman and warrior, with my ranger and bard. The tank merc is just so bad. That is why a lot of people I know have a pocket SK.

What i dont understand is, why they dont just have official mercs for each class that they already have NPC AI for.

I was under the impression that they made it not run or work on TLP servers. is that not the case? I bought 18 computers that i havent even learned to fully use yet. my bards are just melody casting with autofollow and boardcast key to turn attack on. Made social macros for my healers to run a healing chain for 4 casts at the start of my pulls (4 healers so goes for a minute or so for all 4 to run thru them) allowing me to slow and tash and malo manually. all DPS is set with boardcast key to hit assist social macro. I enjoy the game enough with my set up that i dont see the point in cheating. I probably have bought some items from people cheating or atleast the Krono for sure.
I was under same impression too and it might be limited in some ways on the tlp the biggest thing I’ve seen is when you zone it closes out and has to be relaunched
from what I've read its not too different from log parsing for DPS programs. TLP or not. they seem to run from reading the /log file and triggering on log entries. /tell heal me for example. So, if a DPS program can trigger and tell you to move... it could in theory also tell a healer to pre-cast.
Redguides will log you off if you log in to a server that is truebox or no box. There are other ways to run MQ, such as MMObugs, that will run no matter what.
Iv used IS boxer in world of warcraft. Not sure if it's against tos inEQ or not. But nothing is automated but in wow you have to putt all the keys what you can do is one UI controls all boxes
I remember that and then there was honorbuddy too that could run routes and kill stuff.
Boxing is killing it for me, to many peeps box's 2+ cha, if their is cheat then it suck even more.

@@vanman2099 I can confirm that it does work on TLPs. Red guides has stated they will not allow it to work on true box servers. But there are work arounds for it.
@@vanman2099 MQ works on TLP ... but not if you load it thru the Red Guides launcher like most people who use MQ from that source. People who are running MQ on TLP are doing it "the pain in the ass way"

MQ2 was good then they got $$$ in their eyes. It helped when you couldn't find a spawn that was either underground or wandered off and got stuck in the geometry. normally you'd petition and 2-3 day you'd get a canned response of how they are sorry and they cant do or tell you anything and to use the in game /report. and the autoforaging was the bomb. hitting the keys every 1-2 minutes got tedious.
I used to just put forage on my hotbar on number 7 and keybind the 7 key to my left or right key and then as long as I'm running around I'm foraging every time I turn while running. This is also great for skilling up as well and there are many different abilities you can bind to your movement keys
no need for multiple boxes on live modern PC's even years old can run like 20 clients at once

Hell, back in the day (2006-2008), I ran 3-4 characters on a single computer. It was an ASUS motherboard with dual 1Ghz P3s, 4GB RAM, Windows XP Pro, and...stuff. I forget the rest. Definitely wasn't cutting edge, even for then, and I wasn't running any kind of automation; just the manual ALT-TAB between all 4.
It'd sometimes get janky in the newer (Darkhollow and especially PoR+) zones, but all I did was turn off all the glitz on the 3 subordinate toons and make them look up all the time. Ah, glorious memories. 🥲
Edit: Forgot to say what I played. Enchanter, Cleric, Shaman, Druid. Enchanter was my main and I was (and still am) a total buff whore for my silly pet; don't ask me why, I don't understand it either, but there it is. So all 4 required intensive hands-on oversight to work well together. I was in a rather high-end raiding Guild, had CoA and DPoB gear plus TSS raid items here and there. Dropped out in 2008, but they're all active again now, just gotta reorient myself and find out what I want from where. Was one of the best raid 2-boxers around with my Enchanter/Cleric, but the Shaman was becoming my main on raids simply because Enchanter usefulness fell off a cliff after 70.
@@brianmurphy6480 "back in my day" I don't think I had a computer powerful enough to run 2 decently when I played live before I quit, maybe 2, but I remember having a bunch of old pos computers that I 4 boxed off of for a while, feels like when I quit i was on an athlon x64 maybe 512mb of ram. It wasn't until I came back for the first TLP that I was running 18 off one PC, but now with truebox it's old school 1 account per pc again ;(

@@Senorhelicopter back in the day I cleared anguish boxing Zerk and shaman using no delay and ghost kill. Not omm though. I could clear hive in 10 mins. I haven’t used them for 15 years. I do use redguides mq but recently all my accounts got banned so beware
Used red guides. They work BUT 3 out of 5 accounts banned.

Playing on Oakwynd, been trying to get me some AC ring, iv seen all sort of suspucious thing happening, but its been awhile since iv played so i tho maybee its me, untill i see this Mnk teleport straight on top of Ancient cyclops and kill it then vanish like if he was a rogue.. I wear see invis worn so wtf is going with this game i loved so much for soo long and that i just canceled my sub cause i know DB will prolly just send a We are sorry msg... I think Daybreak already relax against MQ2. They don't really ban them. The rule now is you cannot AFK. if GM message you... TP you... and you cant reply and react. then you get ban for AFK botting. so Botting they won't touch it... if you not AFK. but AFK botting is whaat they hit.
I played Yelinak from day 1 up until Luclin launch. There was near zero enforcement of true box or any rule. I reported a lot of people, zero results. My entire guild reported people, zero response. Oakwynd the new TLP is true box. I'm seriously considering turning over a new leaf this TLP and cheating like mad. If you can't beat em, join em.

It’s hilarious how mad people get at people using MQ or ISBoxer. If it wasn’t for MQ, EQ would be dead.
The issue with eq is, beyond level 70 it’s nearly impossible to get groups or get anywhere by yourself. So you box a group of 6 any way you can so later in game you can still play. Show me one tlp merged into a live server that has strong grouping. Actually show me a tlp that has good population and groups past 70
Mischief? Shit, this TLP is on SoF and the population is going strong. It's probably the only TLPV that will make it far with a good population because of the rule set.

you complain about macroquest but then go around and say you buy a black market krono and how great is, when its the macroquesting AE farmers in RCOD that are power leveling and then selling them right back to you...
Odd circle isn't it? The extra $7 or whatever it is now and the time delay for the "organic" Kronos gets costly. What I'm more for is an organic TLP that limits or eliminates Macroquesters --- that will still give them every live server and every other TLP to farm on.
@@vanman2099 Eliminating Krono would get rid of 90% of these botters, but they gotta keep the company afloat somehow. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't run some of these hack websites themselves.

I knew nothing about MacroQuest/Redguides for a long time, but I played on several TLP servers over the past years, typically until PoP unlocks and I quit with everyone else. I was always envious and never understood how people got so far ahead and were able to do what they did. I always felt lagging behind and unable to keep up. The massive amount of AOE groups wore down on me. I often would get discouraged and log off. However, I was eventually introduced to MacroQuest by a friend and I started using it on a private EQ server that allows and encourages its use (Retributioneq). After a long learning process, I learned how to use the program, albeit limited due to my limited understanding of it. but after 4 or 5 months I started to understand it, learning its functions, how characters behave, the ini files, etc. Then it dawned on me; the people who get so far ahead on the TLP servers are using these programs. The odd behaviors I witnessed over the years, the way they function/behave, it all makes sense. To say it's used by players on TLP servers is a massive understatement. The top players/guilds/etc on any TLP server is completely flooded with players who use these programs. I have no actual numbers, but I would bet money a good 3/4ths of the top end population use them. I enjoy its use on the private Retribution server where it is allowed, but I hope everyone on live gets banned forever.
The numbers are not that high as you suggested, but you are correct there are a lot of players who do use it. TLPs get more attention that others.

Yeah seriously its every game, and has been this way since I started playing diablo 1 in the 90s. I've seen bots, hexed items, warping, summoning and pretty much everything else you can think of in hacks from 'layovers' with extra information to the ability to freeze effect temporary buffs. If someone can imagine it, then someone has probably already thought of it before you and started doing it. You have to roll with the punches in life though. In general even on classic servers that don't have it, you see people abusing mage pets etc or anything else they can in order to get ahead as well. Even without hacks, people will exploit everything under they possibly can to get around limitations the devs have put in place. Sometimes these exploits become standardized other times those methods get identified and "nerfed". Cheating or not, unless you are willing to exploit and undermine others you will never be able to be part of the cutting edge in any game.
