OH man, coming back to eq for the first time in 18 years for the new TLP servers and thought the random loot sounded game breaking but now I'm now it sounds like it's totally worth it since as a father of two now, I don't have the 8+hrs of day to play I had back when I was a teenager.
Mischief was the most fun I ever had in an EQ TLP. It opens up the game so much. It makes the trade scene absolutely lit. It makes twinking way more fun. It makes going to less traveled locations worthwhile.
Loved getting two Pegasus feathered cloaks off the ghoul savant, and three ring of the ancients off the ghoul assassin, plus their normal drops, all in a few hours running back and forth between camps.
Mischief rules are absolutely fantastic for me. Random loot makes so many more raid targets worth killing, which is fantastic for small-man crews of friends. It's a ton of fun on off-nights to kill your Shyra's etc and have a chance at some really good loot. If you have a solid crew of friends, you many not even need to raid with a guild if you don't feel like it / can't make it. I know my schedule has made me miss most raids recently, but still plenty of opportunity on offnights. On a standard server, if I couldn't make guild raids, I'd have way less incentive to play the game. Two huge thumbs up from me.
I really hope they keep random loot for all future servers. It really did solve the uber camp mindset and ks'ing of those camps constantly. And the extra loot was pretty nice also since you could help out a friend that maybe couldn't always raid or missed a few more than they wanted to. Great video, thanks!
I moved to Mischief today after having a bad time trying to get in a raid guild on Yelniak as a warrior and didn’t like the new TLP ruleset. I’m 6 boxing to blow past the lower zones. Free trade makes life so much easier starting over. I use to hate the idea but I’m liking it.
It seems common sense to make a TLP tradeable since you only have max 3 months per expansion everything should be sped up as much as possible for casual enjoyment.
Great video. TLDR: Wife and I love Random Loot and hope they continue to use it and maybe even somehow expand on it. Long version: Wife and I played on Thornblade when it launched. We joined a guild that split plat on raids which we absolutely loved. We burned out pretty quick doing the grinds to level but we had a blast and still talk about it every so often. We love Random loot and all loot being trade able. Agreed about epics being trade able. Wish they would allow all items to be trade able. My wife has made ONE legendary in GW2 and instead of wielding it, she SOLD IT on the auction house because that aspect of MMOs appeals to her more than anything. She loves the economy side of things. Random loot is also awesome because it stops jerks like Ion Blaze highlighted in his videos about named stealing and krono farmers. Any way to stop the cheaters running the cheatware to see nameds when they spawn, know exactly what they have, and instant teleport to them is welcomed. We hope the next TLP uses the same ruleset and expands on it. We will probably play on it if we can find a guild that does plat split for raids. We recently came back to Firiona Vie where all our mains are. We came back for the bonus xp til April 1st that I learned about from Hammakjs patch notes Video. I made a wiz and she made a Shd. We just dinged 75 last night only using the 30min lesson each day. I used my 118 Druids Wrath of the Wild damage shield to make leveling quick. We were playing on an Emulated server called Lazarus. That server is awesome but doesn't have one of my favorite expansions The Serpent Spine. Wife usually will ONLY PLAY the ONLY CLASS that matters according to her, the Magician. Her making a SHD to level with me and try something different was her being really nice :) Btw she often says, "I don't know what buttons to press to get aggro back" which requires me to either run around to avoid dying on my wiz or just nuke it dead with my druid and lose the xp but it is a total blast. Her words just now, "I said I would play it, didn't say I would be good at it or that I like it either..."
This is interesting. I haven't played EQ for 20 years now. But I sometimes check on it out of nostalgia. If they added another one of these servers I may be tempted enough to play again. I just don't have the time or attention span to slog through the normal game.
All I heard from Zaide during launch is him laughing about other guilds focusing on server first kills versus server first expansion clears. Faceless uses dkp too, and gdkp for alt raids.
As I said, he may have just been joking when messaging one of our raid leaders. One of the best things about Mischief has been the guild cooperation at the start of expacs, including Faceless....getting a bunch of people from all (or most) raiding guilds the drops/flags needed to start pulling instances, rather than fighting for the OW kills and gatekeeping the rest of the server for a spawn.
I have played on this server longer than any other TLP run because there is not as much pressure to always stay up to date on Gear. Farming small man is also a huge attractive thing. I just hope there are still small man T1 encounters after TSS. Even just 1 boss per expac like Hearol makes such a big difference. People say most T1 loot will require raids after this expansion.
I love Mischief.....it is not a server of have and have-nots. It is a server full of haves and haves-more. Even your 4th alt can get effective gear for a few thousand plat. There are a lot of us that just load up the Bazaar with 1 plat gear for people that are behind and catching up. Yes we could probably sell the stuff to a vendor and make a lot more money...but the culture of Mischief is great.
Played EQ for a long time (20+ years), I was just about done with the game then I figured what the hell lets give Mischief a shot and its breathed new life into the game. I am now trying to justify adding 18 mini pcs to box my own mini raids just to see what drops. I don't even care about krono (buying or selling them). Its just that I am having FUN in EQ for the first time in a long time. I will never play on a server without a Mischief like ruleset. If they got rid of truebox and had a Mischief style TLP that is the only way I could see leaving Mischief. I really can't say stress how much I hate truebox and the people who think it actually stops boxing (it doesn't), it just makes it annoying.
Would be nice to see a mechanic that supports cooperation. Like a point system that goes up when you spend a couple hours with an account you never grouped with before. Ultra rare loot put into a special table that requires a high amount of those points to get increase chance of drop. So like if you're a triple boxer constantly helping people out or some super social group leader, those people pretty much get the best loot.
That’s a neat system that could be built on, in league of legends they have talent points that gain more power the more unique people you kill on each team so if you reversed that and the more diff accounts you grouped with off different IPs you’d get some type of extra chance at loot or other incentive to add a big incentive to grouping with random players
I play on Mischief since it launched and I think they should bring back the loot piñata possibility, when killing a rare or raid mob have a chance for it to drop double loot. Also 1-2 items from the actual named and the rest of the loot random from the table. Maybe increase the level range from 4 to 5. They should also increase the plat maximum on /baz from 2 mil to 20mil or more. Less trying to auction items for krono. If one doesn't want to make the mistake of spending more than 2 mil then they can just put that extra plat in their bank, shared bank, another character, etc. Everything else I love about Mischief.
The biggest problem with Mischief is the sheer quantity of loot. while it sounds great at first, if you're in a raiding guild you can get full BiS most expansions within about 3 weeks. on standard TLP's you wont get full BiS on any expansion. the reason this is significant is because it completely ruins the grouping game. there's no reason to do any group content whatsoever because if it isnt BiS, you dont want it anymore. all non-bis gear is trash. that aspect has really ruined a lot of expansions for me. For example during Gates of Discord i dont think i even ran the group ikkinz trials one time....on a standard TLP you'll likely run them a bunch for the loot they offer. tons and tons of other examples but the pinata effect really hurt the group game a lot.
I can get behind that point, at times the loot was just insanely overwhelming even boxing like an LDON Raid the amount of augs and crap that dropped it felt like a chore to go through the loot list most of the time, especially with things still being lore I ended up just throwing items to characters and forgetting about them.
The worst part of Mischief to me is I missed it. I know people say "it's still going it's alive and well jump right in" but I don't want to jump into a server at TSS, that defeats the whole purpose to me I want to start in classic. So I'm just dicking around on Oakwynd with 1 char when I feel like it... waiting for Daybreak to get off their ass and announce Mischief 2.0 so I can roll a 2 or 3-box team immediately and have a home for some years to come. Mischief to me is what EQ should be in 2023. Yeah it probably needs a few tweaks with the highest items being droppable off minis, but the server ruleset overall is LIGHT YEARS ahead of even the newest TLPs like Oakwynd. Nobody is out here poopsocking raids in a 25 year old wizard game. That's not what the game is about anymore. Random tradeable loot is the next quantum jump that instances were years ago IMO. I want to be able to have 1 of every class and when I log on at 7pm on a Tuesday to play for 2 hours I want to be able to head out somewhere and farm an upgrade or some cash to buy an upgrade for one of my chars. P99 still exists for sweats, TLPs should not be copying it.
If they were having problems with boxers and farmers camping the best spots then why make everything tradeable? I am curious about TLP mischief but not ready to commit a sub fee at this point.
That's a downside you would have to basically join a raiding guild or guild to have people to play with everyone is usually more on the end-game side of things.
You can find groups pretty easy at low levels, or at least i do when I play an alt. Just say lfg in the channels. Someone will pick you up. Afterwards they'll probably invite to a guild or point you to a good one if your cool ( done that with several people). Stay zexxi.
Random loot is cool, however, I didn't like the absurd quantity of loot that dropped on Mischief -- having BiS raid gear isn't much of an achievement when everyone's twinks also have BiS raid gear.
My biggest issue with Mischief isn't the randomized loot, it's the QUANTITY of loot. It would be one thing if the same NUMBER of items dropped from random loot tables, but it's another thing that 2-3 TIMES the items drop. There's so much to go around, it's just kinda boring. I played on Mischief and Thornblade both through about Velious then I just got bored. I'm way more interested and way more engaged on Yelinak. My two cents.
Disagree. I think the quantity of loot is the best part. I’ve played every tlp and most tlp in the top guild and you’re lucky to usually get 1-3 pieces of top gear per expansion generally. It’s nice being able to get best in slot or near each expansion if you’re only playing the 1 character
I think random loot is mostly good. Tradable loot has it's pros and cons. But, regardless, there is far too much loot on Mischief. It takes away a lot of the meaningful feeling of reward behind acquiring loot. If you are in a raiding guild (or you buy/aquire a lot of Krono/plat. You end up being decked out in BiS gear like halfway into an expansion or earlier which leaves you twiddling your thumbs for the second half. It also trivializes content when everyone is geared to the teeth. It is definitely EZmode and I see why some people like that. And, I play there! But, what a lot of people are in denial about is that what makes games good and memorable is struggling and not having things handed to you and, instead working really hard to achieve things.
The increased amount of loot allows me to gear out multiple characters per expansion. Without this it would be difficult to do so in just 3 mo per expansion.

What is the point of being handed stuff for no effort? Think of it this way, did you ever really enjoy a game after using cheat codes? I doubt you did. Why? because what's the point? Everyone thinks that obtaining the best stuff in a game will bring them happiness but in reality it just means GAME OVER. So the Mischief rules just means you reach game over quicker. Maybe that's good for some people but for people who like to play a lot, I'd argue it is not good. I know that for myself I feel no motivation to log onto Mischief and play. There is absolutely nothing for me to do to improve my character in any meaningful way except raid logging once a week. And, really, I wouldn't even need to do that if I had no shame and used a credit card to buy loot.
@@brianross9926 I am in a raiding guild and get all my loot from raids. I feel just as accomplished as I would on a live server. Different strokes for different folks I guess. I personally didn't play through 90% of the content in the later expansions so this gives me the opportunity to go to each expansion and actually do all the content I never got a chance to see. I guess some people just care a lot more than me about some silly badge of honor regarding their own exclusivity to the high end-game.
it's not about a badge of honor or exclusivity. It's about having something to look forward to and chase. there is nothing to do and expansions feel done with in a week or two. It would also be kind of cool if group content drops had at least some meaning rather than 10 drops being puked out on you that are meaningless because all the raid drops on the market.
@brianross9926 If you don't like the loot, go to FV or live to get your sense of achievement rather than trying to nerf Mischief for those that like it just the way it is.

Oathbreakers is still DKP, and we had a few server firsts for TSS. Zaide was reportedly rather annoyed (may have been joking though).

FV server isn't random, but loot is tradable. So I play there more than anything.

The sound quality is really bad, you may consider a better microphone. It is also made worse by the background music, almost impossible to listen to.

too much loot on mischief, ruleset is fine if they just tone down the amount of loot, renders alot of group content loot pointless.
