      The Fast Lane Car Hey thanks for the video. I’m looking at getting my first Jeep. I know some people have encountered some issues, I see the “death wobble” is still around although some say it only occurs when you do certain mods with lifts or suspension. But besides that, I’ve heard of some having welding issues. Now my question is would you get a 2019 (I assume the ones that have come out, have the welding issues rectified) or would you wait for the 2020’s?
      Any feed back or advise would be appreciated! Thanks again for the video, I’m new to the channel

    • @dieppat
      @dieppat 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      MSRP isn't a problem, it's what is making FCA all their cash. These things will sell at their current price point, and if not they'll sell with a little cash on the hood and FCA will still roll in the money. I don't disagree that they're ridiculously expensive but their pricing is based on market demand. Don't get me wrong, I too long for the days of sub-$20k Wranglers but that ship has sailed.
      What will be even more ridiculous is when they start selling the Gladiator. That, and Wranglers with the diesel. The diesel is another excuse to add $4k-$6k to the MSRP. Watch, a 4-door diesel Rubicon is going to top 60K.

      Yes! Definitely think there need to be more reviews of 3-5 yr old vehicles. Just because something is great off the assembly line does not mean it holds up 50-60 k in. Also, just because us enthusiasts love to drool over the latest stuff, does not me we can afford/justify it in our own lives.

    I would also have to give props to Brian's wife on picking out that gorgeous ocean blue color so much better than yellow or that neon lime green that mojito is. That red and black Rubicon logo really pops off it well too. I like all the options he has on this, truly a purpose build unicorn. I am glad that you guys are bringing this series back, I really enjoyed the previous iteration. I do find it helpful to know what people may have gone through to get their dream ride like Brian did where he had to Idaho to find the exact options he wanted. If there was such a thing as a State vehicle I am sure for Colorado it would either be a Jeep Wrangler or Subaru Outback. lol ...

  • @ronaldk3904

    Yup, love this new video idea. Keep 'em coming TFL. The most interesting aspect of this particular episode is that the vehicle is a factory order, and how that worked out regards pricing. All too often it is darn near impossible to find exactly what one is looking for on a dealers lot. And from one dealer to the next, they all seem to have their own idea of what customers want and that's what they load the lot up with.

    • @jrs89
      @jrs89 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, this is especially true about manual transmissions. There are always reports about how no one wants manual transmissions. Go try to find one. Go watch a dealer stall and convince you otherwise when you request to locate one.

    Straightening the steering wheel is very easy. No need to take the rig to an alignment shop when the steering wheel is off. The toe-in is unaffected by most lifts unless you put a new tie rod on.

  • @BobLionel
    @BobLionel 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    You don't need an alignment rack to align a JL. The only adjustment that can be made is to adjust toe-in, which can be done with a wrench and a tape measure. Straightening the steering takes 10 minutes and anyone can do it. DW typically has nothing to do with alignment. It's almost always loose or defective components, most notably the track bar or ball joints.

      My death wobble was the steering wheel shock absorber

    • @BobLionel
      @BobLionel 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mahihkanahtik There is no way for a bad stabilizer to cause a shimmy. It is a dampener, it isn't active, it doesn't move without something else moving it. The old one might not have dampened as well as the new one, but what you are saying is that the new one masks the screwed up steering suspension on your Jeep. You still have a problem, you just can't fix it and eventually whatever parts are bad or loose will get worse and cause an issue that is not as easily fixed.

    • @johnturner9924
      @johnturner9924 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the cost of upgrades to make the JK equal to the JL would far offset any perceived savings. I had a JKUR and it was a never ending if I upgrade this I mush upgrade that list. The JL has better brakes, better fenders, beefier suspension components, better transmissions. Hell one of the only things I dislike with my new JLUR is I kinda miss having so much that needs to be upgraded. I run 37" tires and a 2" mopar dealer lift and it will run circles around my JLU that had big brake kit, 3.3 Falcon Shocks, Teraflex suspension, etc... I think about it like a base Wrangler vs a Rubicon, if you are going to do any real off roading the upgrade is worth it.

    • @depthsounderdave
      @depthsounderdave 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We don't really put a ton of customization on our Jeeps. The JK Rubicon is more than capable enough for the trail riding we have in FL. The only thing I really needed was the lockers and the off road tires. We weren't going to spend $40k+ on a Jeep, our target was $35k. The JK Rubicon is vastly more capable than the JL Sport for the same price at any dealer in my region. The available JL Rubicon's were all optioned north of $50k!

    Another great review Roman… Thanks… I love your style of interviewing… Very relaxed and the whole thing comes across as very forthright and honest. That’s a rare commodity these days.
    The video was helpful because I’m trying to decide to what extent I should upgrade my 2006 TJ, (still in great shape, with only a 2 inch lift and slightly larger tires), versus waiting a few more years and picking up a new JL… It’s funny that you guys down in the U.S. call everything a Wrangler….In Canada they’re either a CJ, a YJ, a TJ, a JK or a JL. My first jeep was a 1986 CJ-7 Renegade, which I drove for 11 years and would still be driving today if it hadn’t been stolen… My ‘06 TJ has been a lot of fun as well.

    The color part is so true, I had one of the first ocean blue JLU’s in Minneapolis MN area and everyone, both Jeepers and non jeepers alike, could not help but comment on the color. It’s a beautiful deep metallic blue, no other color quite matches it in looks. The red is great, mojito is eye catching, but the blue is truly the most beautiful color. Even to this day, I wash my Jeep often, in a land of salty dusty cars the blue really stands out and gets lots of compliments.

It has been on the Rimrocker Trail and a bunch of trails in Moab, so it has proven its metal. The best part is that it was great on the long highway drive to and from, as well. Great new video series. My wife has had 3 Wranglers in the past and now that we are looking for a new vehicle, she is torn between a Lexus SUV (tech/luxury) and a JK/JL Unlimited Sahara. Practicality says Lexus. Heart says Jeep. This video helps reinforce “why” it’s ok to sacrifice a few things for the “Jeep experience”. I’m guessing we will have a lightly used 2017 Unlimited Sahara in “Chief Clear-coat” (Tahiti Blue?) In the garage soon. Keep up the good work!

    Another great video from TFL. I've been following these guys ever since I watched them for the first time before I bought my 2015 Durango RT. Coming from a Honda Pilot, I was nervous about buying a Dodge for reliability and quality of the inside. I'm still nervous 3 years later, but I got an extended warranty. Quality of the materials and how it drove were the biggest obstacles, but their test video sealed the deal. Had to laugh at the "Black, Black, Black" comments on the interior, because you were right on that. It's shows everything, but doesn't help that I have a white Labrador Retriever. LOL!
    So fast forward to the 3rd week of January of 2019. I once again used several of your video's of test drives, comments and suggestions, along with a few others to help evaluate a potential purchase of a Jeep Wrangler JL. I didn't pull the trigger last November due to the welding recall and others. Also, the 2018 is a year old by the point in the model year and that's not a smart buy if the price doesn't reflect it.
    This week, I ordered a brand new 2019 Jeep Wrangler JL Rubicon- White! What's really good is that I bought it for 1% under invoice and I got the holdback as well..... and that's on a "ordered" Jeep where the buyer has little leverage!!!
    I'm expecting my Jeep to arrive within about 2-3 months, but probably in about 5 weeks.
    BTW- The follow up video that you did with the rep from Jeep to address some of the Jeep issues was helpful and well timed. Glad to see that they are not trying to hide behind a fence when the issues come up or look to be misunderstood. The test drives were on point in many area's that were important too me.
    We'll see how this goes being a first time Jeep owner at the age of 52. Better late than never!

    This was my dream truck for many years. A month ago I went a test drove one and didn't like it at all because of the cabin space. I really thought they were bigger on the inside. Overall, I still like them but they are just not practical for what i got going on. I'm a musician and carry a lot of gear and sometimes gear and people.That blue is really nice.

      Just get a used Wrangler JK. There are plenty of them out there and they are good vehicles and have a larger after market accessories. Just avoid any JK made before 2012. They had some major engine issues. I have a JL and it's great but my JK was awsome as well.

    I have a 2017 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Hardrock. 2-door manual transmission and loaded. Thinking about trading for a new Jeep Wrangler. Was going automatic all the way. Kind of tired of shifting. How does he like the new 6-speed manual? It is totally different than what is in my JK. The one thing I love a out my 2-door is the manuverability. Park anywhere go anywhere.

    • @jlurjlur9845
      @jlurjlur9845 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a 6 speed JLUR. It wont maneuver as well as the two doors in switchbacks but that is to be expected. For me its a big step up from my dodge 1500 on turning radius. The 4 door can be parked almost anywhere the two door can park minus some parallel parking circumstances. The 6 speed trans is nice and easy to shift. Clutch is effortless imo. The new 8 speed auto is also nice. My suggestion is to go drive both like I did. I just prefer manual over automatic. Hope this helps.

    I own a 2 door JL Sport. It has a manual trans, air
    conditioning, limited slip, and a hard top. I don't have power locks or
    windows. I also bought MOPAR Lifetime warranty (Max Care Package). Here is my
    take on it.
    Overall: Great Jeep! Very fun to drive, best with top down
    and doors off. Haven't wheeled it yet, but it should perform like my JK of
    similar build which did good in the snow and sand dunes.
    Pros:
    - Freedom panels are lighter than the JK's. Also faster to
    remove and reinstall.
    - The Freedom panel storage pouch is also easier and faster
    to use. In my opinion, you don't really need the Sunrider top because the panels
    are well protected in the pouch as long as it's properly stored.
    - The doors are a lot lighter than the JK's.
    - Limited slip diff is available on the Sport model.
    - I get about 22-23 combined MPG. I got 19-20 on my JK.
    - Sexy interior. Not just all black plastic like the my JK
    sport.
    - Stock headlights are bright enough for me. The JK's were
    very poor.
    - Carpets a lot easier to remove/reinstall.
    - Heat is strong and kicks in quickly. You can actually
    drive with the freedom panels off in the winter and the heat will keep you warm
    when on full blast.
    - Pretty powerful engine. Fast enough for a heavy boxy Jeep.
    Cons:
    - STOCK INFOTAINMENT IS ATROCIOUS. It's the worst thing
    about my Jeep. It's slow to load and react, and half the time it can't remember
    the last song it was on from my flash drive so it automatically goes to the
    same default song when I start it! It takes roughly 4 minutes to load my music
    library so I end up surfing through a complicated touch screen while I'm on the
    move which is very unsafe. Honestly they should have just stuck with a CD
    player for the stock radio system.
    - The stock 3.45 gears lack power past 4th gear. I miss my
    JK's 3.73 gears. 3.73 Gears aren't an option for the sport model anymore. Then
    again that's probably why I get better fuel economy.
    - My windshield cracked within 3 months of ownership. It's
    not the end of the world but annoying to say the least.
    - Expensive. I bought my JL for about $28,000. Again that's
    without power doors, locks, and very few options. I bought a 2017 JL with
    pretty much the same options for $26,000. Add a lifetime warranty and my almost
    stock JL was about $31,000.

    I love my 2018 JLUR, which is also a m/t. Kinda funny because I'm average exactly 14.1-14.4 MPG with about 95% city driving. My biggest regret is not getting the color matching fenders, those look great. I may end up trading it in for the new Gladiator Rubicon, we'll see.

    I just purchased a 2019 Silverado 1500 RST Z71. It was an absolute nightmare dealing with the several dealers I did to get the deal that I would accept. Other than that, I’m pretty happy with my purchase. I decided to go with the RST Z71 because it’s one of the only full size “off road capable” trucks that seat 6. I have a wife and four kids, so I wanted to be able to take the whole family down some trails and have a truck to do truck things as well. The only other real competitor for my money was a Ford F-150 FX4 Offroad, but to get the wheels I wanted, I had to choose the chrome package and I don’t like chrome. The RST had better tires as well, so I went with it. My truck has the 5.3 and it does have sufficient power. Yes, it’s the least powerful V8 in its class, but it’s not slow by any means. I love the fact that my truck came with full floor all weather mats. With kids, carpet isn’t the best option. The infotainment system is sufficient for my needs. I want just enough tech to keep me happy but not enough to worry about it breaking after the warranty expires. The crew cab has a ton of room. The kids love the back seat room. I’m 6 foot and 250 pounds and the front has tons of room with me in it. The exterior is all black with no chrome, just the way I like it. The truck just looks mean. I do have a few minor complaints about it. The first is you cannot fully shut off the stability control. It says it’s shut off, but when you try to drift around a snowy corner, it automatically kicks back in and straightens you out. What fun is that!!!??? The second is the engine auto shut off. Yes, it does have a switch to turn it off, but It defaults to on after you shut the truck off. I’d like to default it to off so I don’t have to remember to shut it off every time I get in the truck. The last real complaint I have is the tailgate. I love the slow open feature, but I do not like the fact that it’s push button open only. I want a handle as well. I’m worried the motor will quit and I can no longer open my tailgate. In the end, I love my truck and I’d buy it again in a heartbeat. I only paid $3,000 more than an equivalently optioned 2018 model that was heavily discounted for the year end clearance. It was well worth the $3,000 to get the extra cab space alone.

    How do you get an "alignment" with non adjustable control arms? All you can do is adjust the draglink to center the wheel which is stupid simple to do yourself. If you get an adjustable front track bar then you can center the front diff if lifted. Using geometry correction brackets is a good idea when lifting to keep pinion in spec. But alignment, no unless you get adjustable control arms.

You don't buy a Wrangler lightly used, as the cost difference is so insignificant that you may as well buy new. If you are financing, NEW is often cheaper than lightly used due to the better interest rates.

    Great combo. Short wheel base, manual, color. I loved the video
