DIY Dress Tutorial // Sew a Dress without a Pattern

  • Easy T-shirt Dress Tutorial // Using supplies from JOANN, and one of the t-shirts hanging out in your closet, you can make a comfortable and versatile dress in one afternoon. No need to buy a commercial pattern.
    This DIY Dress Tutorial was designed with the beginning sewist in mind. Grown-on sleeves mean that you don't have to cut and sew separate sleeve pieces.
    Knit fabric gives stretch, allowing you to simply pull dress over your head. No need for notions like buttons and zippers.
    I recommend using a ball point needle. Universal needles simply don't perform as well on knit fabrics. Ball point needles are game changers.
    More information can be found on my blog post.

    Using Christmas wrap as a pattern paper is the most ingenious thing I have ever seen!

      I have noticed that the Dollar Tree wrapping paper had the grid on the reverse side.

      I agree. I have been looking for grid paper to make my patterns and wrapping paper NEVER crossed my mind.

      Elegia I have used tracing paper in my printer before with no problem. It’s see through and thin so it’s easy pin and cut out.

      Extra plus! Use wrapping paper with grid marks on the back, which allows you to measure inches. Then you can adjust waist measurement, length, etc., to be sure it's accurate. (Each grid box is 1 inch wide!) :)

      I don’t sew (yet), but make a lot of patterns for customs and wrapping paper with grids is awesome! Super cheap, too. I used to use poster board, but this is so much better.

    I inherited a lot of 3x t-shirts when my brother passed away. And they've got cool graphics on them. So I'm thinking of piecing them together to make a maxi t-shirt dress. Maybe tiered .

    When I was a kid, my mom used newspaper to make patterns from clothes we had. These days, I have some of her old, unneeded gift wrap, so your way is a great update to an older idea that brings my mom back to me. Thanks!

      🌸 Oh that is such a sweet idea to use a tablecloth from your wedding to make a casual dress - it is like there is a piece of that special day with you each time you wear it 🌸

    • @chardsmaryl1
      @chardsmaryl1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Emily Anderson Just remember that she used a stretch knit fabric that she pulled over her head. If your lavender tablecloths don't stretch, you'll have to add a key-hole neckline (or something similar) with a button and loop closure so you can get it over your head.

    Glad to have a practical use for wrapping paper. I bought to much in the After Christmas sales. Then my boyfriend came with a whole lot of wrapping paper when he was cleaning out a house after someone moved out. Then my brother passed away and I discovered he had quite a hoard of wrapping paper as well.
